Nino Niederreiter's camp has requested a trade

we don't need him, and he certainly wouldn't want to come here. he's 20 years old and hasn't done s*** in the NHL. i'm sorry bud, but you don't call the shots. earn your time. he'd never last in a development system like ours, he'd be screaming to leave. "BUT BUT BUT KENNY, I WANT TO PLAY IN THE BIG SHOW!"

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

Well, all depends on trust within the franchise. Tootoo went through struggling times with nashville which lead them to have a reputation with him. you basically get judged. it seems they had lost their trust with the man, and didn't want to re-acquitate him within the system. It's understandable though, as tootoo wasn't their only big body that was willing to throw it around and cause havok. they just didn't need him. so yes, he didn't get the greatest of ice-time, but like always different players flourish with different teams. detroit has embraced tootoo, and that has to feel frickin damn good inside. the team came calling, he has purpose in his game again, he knows people are relying on him. look at how much pride mccarty had knowing that he was out there to be the protector, he was out there to watch the backs of his boys. take tootoo, someone who worked for a club that didn't have trust and a role for him and then put them somewhere they're wanted and needed. i'm sure tootoo is going to love his stay here, and i'm positive we're going to return that love. hell, i know i loved this signing since day 1. now, tootoo isn't the strongest of guys, but he has heart. last night he came out guns blazin, he wanted to send a message, hell for all we know he could've personally went to babcock and said, "i want first shift, i want to set the tone." babcock simply rogered up and wanted to see what it was about. everytime i saw tootoo on the ice, he was banging the body, he was going full-speed, he was trying to get on the puck, he was being that damn pest he needs to be. so i really think he did have a big impact on last nights game. we had just gotten our asses WHOMPED on by st.louis, physically and mentally, and then tootoo comes out and says, "please, try this s*** on us tonight and you're just promising me a good time." you gotta love that man. you gotta.

Red Wings Win, but Work Remains

i think yesterdays game was what they needed. they put on the pressure and at times they certainly looked scary. it gave me a smile. i felt warmth within the chest cavity. while i came back to reality, i realized that we aren't working with our lineup and this is a big thing to me. like in last nights GDT I had said that this 3rd line of bert-helmer-cleary is going to be the stepping stone of this team. it's going to cause the team to flourish around it. we had numerous chances, while hitting numerous post. bobro is a hot goalie, one of the hottest in the league right now simply due to him playing in the lockout. majority of the goalies have not played during the lockout, and are rusty. ontop of this add the rusty defense and it looks brutal out there, and is the main reason for so many high scoring games right now. teams are just out of it. people have this stagma around columbus thinking that they're just horrible, no, they aren't. babcock said it the best during the pre-game yesterday, columbus is a good team, very underrated and just had a bad season due to injuries. they were working with mason, who got replaced by bobro whom isn't the best but i think he'll flourish in CBJ due to being given a chance. the wing's know they need to get better, everyone on this team knows this, and babcock will be reminding them every single day.

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

who the hell wants him as a top 6 forward? he's a bottom 6 grinder? he pisses people off, he knows his job, and he wants everyone else to know why he was brought in. where did you get this idea that Babcock wanted to play Tootoo 20 minutes a night at the expense of others?
  5. this thread has officially gone off the hinges. seriously boys? we're complaining about a signing that we haven't even fkn seen. we complain all night about the quincey and smith pairing, the injuries, etc and then Holland wakes up and does something about it. He doesn't tie our hands with a huge signing, no he gets a CHEAP (750k damn near entry level contract) stay-at-home defensemen that can be an asset to them around him. Like I said earlier, Quincey and Smith are BRUTAL together. We've seen it the past 2 games, they just can't play together. Holland gets a straight up stay-at-home defensemen who could possibly be our next brad stuart. Is he going to be Brad Stuart? No. But my GOD from everything i've heard, the guy plays a VERY clean game and did some damage with Demers. Pair him with Smith, allow Smith to play his offensive game and Huskins play his defensive game. "OH MY GOD HOLLAND HOLLAND HOLLAND" REALLY?! We're supposed to be talking about KENT HUSKINS. FFS, get your s*** together LGW.
  6. In terms like that, there isn't that many offensive effective defense men out there. And when there do exist, they come at high value because they don't exist at a high rate. Basically, you are going to have to rely on those offensively minded defensemen, and count them as your "offensive defensemen."
  7. I'd have to disagree with you there. Kronner offensive, Quincey offensive, Smith sure as hell offensive, White is alittle 2-way, Ericsson is prone to being more offensive but has regressed to defense more the past few seasons. I'd tend to think the majority of our defensemen are offensively minded with the lack of stay-at-home, defensive defensemen. Stuart was our main stay-at-home guy, and we lost him.

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ babcock had the freedom to put out any line he wanted, he put tootoo's line out there for a reason and they matched it for a reason. that and go watch the replay of that face-off, before the puck even dropped tootoo was backing up. the minute i saw him start going backwards off the face-off i immediately registered, HERE GOES THE GLOVES BABAY, sure enough bada bing.

Ericsson out, Getting MRI on Hip

-_____________________________________________________________- that is seriously all i can do right now.
  10. I'm going to go ahead and guess that Huskins will be paired with Smith. Babcock will break apart the horrible pairing of Smith and Quincey. Smith goes with Huskins, who is a more stay at home defensemen. Smith is the poise puck mover, Huskins should be back for him being mistake prone. Lashoff will probably pair with Kronner, and then White will run with Quincey. I like those pairings A LOT more than what we've been working with.

Bert is Back! Mono test was false positive.

Apparently we just placed Carlo and Bert on IR today, along with bringing Goose up and signing Kent. I'm guessing Bert is on IR to make the 23-man roster, and is still scheduled to play Friday?
  12. So you're telling me we have Ericsson 2.0? I certainly hope we didn't just bring in another 200+lb player that plays like he weighs 102.
  13. to be fair, howie has bigger balls that 3/4 of our lineup. he also most likely has more fights than majority of our roster.

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

We controlled majority of the play yesterday, just couldn't convert. I thought he brought a great dimension that we've been missing in the first. Once that pace was set, his role wasn't needed to the full extent anymore. In a game like last night, we needed our scorers out there, we need our big 2-way players, etc. We didn't need TooToo running bodies all night, we had to adapt to the play and we did. I think we used him when we needed him, and he excelled at his job. When we knew things were getting called easy, and tootoo was a main target on the calls, we needed to hold him back. Can't send out a player that the refs have an eye for that night, you're just asking for trouble when you don't want it.

    Our 'Special' Teams

i cringe when i see our defensemen chase behind the net, my lord... go to the basics boys. don't chase, box. let him go behind the net, whatever. until we get the d-men that have the bodies AND are willing to use that body of theirs to staple gun players to the boards, chasing is going to hurt us. you better be big, or you better be faster than that forward if you want to start chasing him behind the net, otherwise he's simply pulling you out.

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

if we gave out the offer sheet, i don't even think Subban would sign it. He knows that MTL would immediately match it. The rumors are that Subban wants a 5-yr term, while the club only wants to give him a 2-3 yr term. The money is where it should be, and that doesn't seem to be the problem. It's simply how long the contract is.

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

Oh man, our girlfriends could easily feel the pain together. Mine made the big mistake at buying me a subscription to GCL for this season (i know i know, we shouldn't have supported them but it feeds my addiction). Let's just say, this household has been playing hockey 24/7 whether I have it playing in the living room, our office, or our bedroom. I don't think she's seen me not watch hockey since the beginning of the season. i've been glued to every game watching over everyone.

    1/22 GDT : Stars 2 at Red Wings 1

Rofl, we can basically field a line with simply injured players. That category does not look pretty at all, luckily we'll have helmer and bert back Friday. BIG GAME TONIGHT BOYS BIG GAME BIG GAME. I'm excited to see how they play their first back-to-back game of the season. I think the crowd at the Joe carry the Wings to a 4-2 wing over the Dallas Stars. Brunner, Smith, Cleary and Sammy have goals for Detroit. Also, upcoming schedule shows the Dallas stars on the 29th, but it displays that we're playing Minn via text.

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

Hmm, I was just about to go barge in to the mlive building here in Ann Arbor throwing my hands in the air requesting information about this. SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME DAMN INFORMATION. I can't even be productive on game-days, and then they throw me this information this morning? God. I can't even move from my laptop right now.

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

Wouldn't it be completely opposite? Ken Holland strictly believes in developing through the draft and in-house. "Because it's Ken Holland" would normally result in him calling up Max Nicastro, instead of searching for an UFA. Nah i'm just busting your chops.
