Wow.. is Sammy now the ankle hunter instead of the logo hunter? That had to hurt. -

Looks like his performance in the prospects tourney has given Sheahan more confidence. Agreed that Andersson looks faster, though for a moment I had a Maltby flashback (though Andy seems faster). -

The Tatar goal was nice, Abby is looking good, imho. Both Hawks goals seemed pretty bad. It seemed like Smith is playing very tentatively. I think if he actually pulls it together he will be OK. It almsot seems like he is torn between trusting the other young D and trying to do too much so he's stuck with indecision and it's costing him on the scoreboard. Just got in about 1 minute before the Tatar goal. Ozzie seems like he's going to be great in the booth. Nice interview with Howie on NHL network at the moment. -
He played in Binghamton before I moved to the area and was enshrined in the Binghamton HHOF a couple of seasons ago.

Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal
TheXym replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
You know, with the salary he makes, he could be sent down to GR and the cap hit would be largely gone. As far as waivers, he's pretty much shown he doesn't want to play anywhere else so you'd only have to worry about Garth Snow trying to pick him up. -
Samuelsson - is there any WAY in hell we can get rid of this guy? whos
TheXym replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Sammy, waive your NTC or play in Toledo might be convincing if LTIR doesn't work. Then send him anywhere for "future considerations", say, a buck a la the Kris Draper acquisition or a conditional seventh round pick if the destination team wins the cup. -
I'm glad he's playing elsewhere for that cap hit. You can bash him all you want (I know I complained about him in GDT's more than once), but there is no denying that he was a warrior on the ice, and always left it all on the ice. In some ways he personified the Red Wings ethos IMHO, but his body just couldn't hold up. Thanks for your contributions to the Winged Wheel, Danny. Good luck in Philly (but I hope you don't score a point against the Wings unless they already have the game won). Give the Pens hell!

Homer would be hysterical, if you could understand him. I can just see a Swenglish dollar hot dog promo. Unfortunately, his thick accent would probably turn off the casual viewer. The guy was just a warrior in front of the crease, and I bet he has a huge pool of stories he could tell from his playing days. Plus, I think he'd have a great insight. Ozzie should do well though. Ultimately, if Homer were to train a couple of prospects or guys like Abby to become a net front presence even half as good as he was, think of how crazy opposing goalies and dmen would be driven.

That's a great point, and I look at it as a testament to the overall depth and balance of our prospect pool. There are lots of areas where they are starting to show signs of potential synergy causing the whole to end up being greater than the sum of its parts. If I recall correctly, during the Cup years the Wings had quite a few players reach double digits in the goal column. With that kind of depth, even if a "star" has a slump or is shut down due to the opposition keying on him (as you could consider Jarnkrok in this tourney), there is plenty of firepower to give the defense fits. I'm stoked to see how these guys end up fitting into the big club in the future.

Congrats to the prospects. Wonder how centcougar likes the result. It looks like our young guns in the system are gelling nicely. Once the next wave hits the NHL, part of me pictures Ken Holland turning to Babcock, lighting a cigar, smirking, and saying a la Hannibal Smith, "I love it when a plan comes together." as they continue to light it up. First a Calder Cup, now the prospect tourney win, the future of the team seems bright enough to make you want to wear shades.

Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff makes it official: He's retiring.
TheXym replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
DiPietro is available. -
They've done that in Binghamton for the AHL team for years. Not a bad idea, but I think it's been done elsewhere too.

Depending on how insane, I could go with it. Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" (just the line "all you are is just a...nother brick in the wall" after 55 levels someone then cue the You Got Kronwalled chant could work.
-
Agreed about the Gary Glitter tune not being a good choice due to his shenanigans. I also like the individual goal songs idea. For a Chelsea Dagger alternative, Song 2 by Blur could work. As far as individual scorers, you could have vid clips as well, like gifs on the forum. For example, for Helm, you could have Picard saying "Helm, warp (whatever the goal made the score for the Wings)... Engage! Then cue the music. I also like the idea of 2 Unlimited's Get Ready for This being brought back, since it would harken back to the end of my undergrad days. Billy Joel has to stay for the 4th goal of the night, IMHO. After watching Office Space the other night, the Geto Boys' song Damn It Feels Good to be a Gangster is definitely not a hockey song, but could definitely annoy opponents.

Signed Wings sign Nyquist to 2-year, $1.9m deal ($950k/yr cap hit)
TheXym replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
IMHO, Kenny has done a masterful job this offseason with his signings of Alfredsson, Weiss, and getting Goose and Andersson at great cap hits. Now we just need to see how he trims the roster. I've got a good feeling this season. I also think Nyquist is going to have a breakout year. -
signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)
TheXym replied to ogreslayer's topic in General
Wouldn't Alfredsson be issued his Wings gear at training camp, which hasn't happened yet? No biggie IMHO. -
Assigning him to the ECHL would make him think other teams would be a better option IMHO.

I took it as a dissing of the Bruins' miserly ways at the time. It could also have been viewed as disrespectful to the guys who spent a much longer time there that deserved it (such as Sakic, Forsberg, Roy) by setting the bar for retirement so seemingly low. He did not play there nearly long enough, and it reeks of the franchise being desperate to put a number in the rafters. Borque may have won a Cup with the slush, but I'd think that the vast majority of hockey fans consider him a Bruin.
-
At least it isn't the melted "gold" ice Nashville had for their fan day. I will say that any lameness is likely due to it being Chicago selling it. Like an earlier poster said, if it was from a Wings' cup victory a lot more of us would be down with it.

Wings fans taking seats from the theoretical pool of Leafs fans' seats? Sounds like a good plan to me.
-
Nobody to pass to in the shootout.

Indeed. One of my favorite bands, and Geddy is on of my inspirations as a bass player. I still wish Chelios and DMac would have beat the snot out of the ****** from Def Leppard at the kickoff of the 2009 season in Detroit after he brought it out and put it upside down.

I think the Islanders had 4 small stripes on their jerseys at one point in the late 90's-early 2000's to represent their four championships.
-
Um, OK, not really sure this'll have the desired effect
TheXym replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Are they going to call the jr. Preds the "Whiz Kids" now? That is hideous. I do agree the K-Wings McDonalds unis were even worse. -
This is a wonderful thing. I've been interested in seeing Wingspan for a long time but live in PA. Like 55fan, I'm also jonesing for hockey in a big way.
