It would be a great game. They've got some great players, and it would be great hockey, and if it's reffed down the middle would be great to watch. Both teams deserve that. I think that if both teams are clicking and healthy, the Wings win a darn close one.

I can empathize. My college roommate was from Washington, PA and was a huge Pens fan (this was the early 90's). My college gf's roommates' dad was good friends with Rick Kehoe, so I know a pretty good amount of Pens history, and actually respect Pens fans who suffered through the dark days of Dick Tarnstrom leading them in scoring. I have no use for the post- Crosby bandwagoners who don't know squat. When I was out in Pitt for All-State chorus a couple of years ago, I wore my Zetterberg jersey one day and my Konstantinov jersey another day (this was to the game the Pirates lost 20-0 to the Brewers). Three Pens fans were right behind me. Two started talking smack, the third complimented me on the Vladdy jersey. I turned around and said to the guy who gave props to the jersey he'd obviously suffered through the Tarnstrom era and I could respect that and that we could probably have a great hockey chat, but his buddies were obvious bandwagoners who didn't know squat and couldn't spell Crosby without sob and cry. He laughed, turned to his idiot friends and told them to STFU, I knew more about the Pens than they did, and that I was proof Wings fans were cool. He bought me a couple of beers and we had a good time. There are some great long time fans out there but they are sadly outnumbered by the loudmouth bandwagon idiots.

It's still annoying though, regardless of what team it is. Though if a team is icing a squad whose collective salary is below the salary floor due to mass injuries, I can understand to an extent.

From TSN: Of course the injury card is played.... I'm just glad the Wings didn't come in and take them lightly. After suffering through the Pitt feed, I guess they call their sports channel "root" sports since the word can be a euphemism for a phallus, which both Steigerwalt and Errey are, and' like Edzo, constantly verbally fellate Pens players while not really giving much credit to the opposition. At least Mike Lange, back in the day, did a goos job in the days of the KDKA broadcasts.

Glad to see the streak of Wings wins during my concerts is intact.

Great summary, thanks a bunch to you and the others who replied!

Sorry about the delay replying, catching up in the thread. I'm on Time Warner Cable out of Binghamton, NY (I live in NE PA). No FSD here tonight for me

Just got back from my concert - the kids blew the roof off. Haven't read the thread yet but I'm bummed Center Ice has the Pitt feed. What's the short version of what I missed?

Happy Birthday Konnan! As a side note, I'd mentioned I'd miss the first half of the game for my winter sr. high choir concert. Historically the Wings have done well on nights I've had to conduct concertsover the last 17 years, going 26-0 since my first spring concert in '96 when Stevie scored the 2OT winner against the Blues. I'm hoping the streak continues obviously. Let's Go Wings! I just hope they stay focused and not ease up in intensity if the Pens are as shorthanded as some of the rumors are indicating. If they're down, finish them!

I'm going to miss the first part of this one due to having to conduct my senior high choir concert tonight, but I'll be dvr'ing the Center Ice feed. I'd LOVE to see the Wings club the Pens. Thanks in advance for the info in the GDT.

Puckloo is hitting it on the head on all of her points. I'm also annoyed that the Wings didn't get the props from the national media they should have, but I can sort of understand why. The Wings have been the standard of excellence to which the rest of the league is compared for 15 years or so. It's almost as if the Wings winning or even kicking serious butt is expected or taken for granted. It's also why I think the media is quick to sound the death knells prematurely whenever there is a small bump in the road. Whereas if the Pittsburgh team wins without the poison dwarf's annointed messiah it must be front page news since the expectation is for a blowout loss without him. We've been spoiled as Wings fans for a long time (and long time fans will remember the Darkness with Harkness and other very lean years when the opposition reveled in the mediocrity of those Wings teams before this great run). I think it's only human nature for the media to not give as much credit since the other teams so much more often than not come out on the losing end of the scoreboard and they're probably sick of having to report yet another Wings win. The Wings are so far removed from the lean years that most modern fans and reporters don't remember that there was a time when the Wings weren't so good. Does that qualify Jimmy's netminding as "Price-less"?

Missed this one due to running errands plus grocery and xmas shopping with the wife (should have been last night but I got called to sub in on bass for a jazz gig as we were heading out the door). Got it on the dvr so it should be a fun watch after the organ gig tomorrow AM. I've gotta say it was quite nice to walk in to a Barnes & Noble with wi-fi to find the score was 2-1 as we entered and it hit 6-1 as we were in line to check out. Thanks for the info in the gdt as always, but I've got to know: how was the live mic on Homer?

"The Old Apartment" - Barenaked Ladies

Good catch, I went back and watched it in slo-mo on the DVR, you're right. Thanks for the heads up. Still a bummer though, since the way he's been playing, he deserves to pop one or more

Good job to kill that, and nice speed by Conner on the rush at the end, too bad his shot was way off. The guy is looking hungry on the ice, which is nice. Props to the arena DJ, sounded like Going the Distance by Cake being played before that faceoff.

That is just too funny. I'm going to have to bust out the laptop to +1 that.
-
Not me. Last time I did that I was all-state chorus in the hotel lounge, Wings were up by 3 against LA with 8 minutes and change left in the third and they ended up losing that game and the following three to get booted from the playoffs.

Best performance in a period by the Wings in ages. Everything seemed to be going in. The challenge is to maintain the intensity with such a huge lead. The Yotes just seemed to all have a case of the f**kits. They're either gonna come out hard and nasty or roll over and put in the final 40. Doan and Tippet are going to try to rally them in the locker room, but if the Wings come out hard and maintain pressure I think they will fold. I just hope they don't goon it up. BTW, isn't it great to see Hank, Pavs, and Fil with multi-point periods?

Loving this. Great to see several guys on the score sheet.

Will this be the first double digit game Shanaban? That was pretty bad, especially so soon after his last involuntary vacation.
-
A bit late to the start, glad to see Flip back and a good 1st so far, with Bert and Flip scoring. Looks like a nice beer chiice, edi! I've got a glass of the Macallan poured.
-
Good to see Fil is back. Hopefully he hasn't lost his mojo with the injury.

Once you get it, be sure to show pics, I'm curious to see how it turns out.

I just finished reading the paperback edition, and it's a pretty good read. It's pretty interesting to hear some hockey stories from a ref's perspective, and Fraser was one of the best at calling it down the middle, imho. His TSN web column is also pretty good reading. Has anyone else read it?
