I became a fan in December '83 after seeing the Wings live for the first time. I was a kid and thought Yzerman had the coolest name and was just awesome on the ice and loved the uniforms. I instantly converted from Flyers fandom to my dad's chagrin.

I hope they throw the book at him for driving that drunk, let alone with his kid in the car. He should go to rehab and get help, but if it was a teacher in PA doing that, they'd lose their job and teaching certificate.

Krupp was a pretty bad signing, IMHO.
-
I vaguely remember that. My daughter still HATES Tireman due to the Belle Tire power play ads. I think if there was one in PA she'd have had a conniption fit if we were to drive past it. That was from back in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 season when she would watch the first period of the games with me then I'd carry her up to bed. Her favorite player back then was "Bett Hull"

Agree the Martin Lapointe signing should be up there. The list is definitely skewed way too far to the recent history of the NHL.

Or you just don't drink good beer. Still, your point is valid. I really hope the ads don't happen, but the Wings did sort of test those waters when Amway was their presenting sponsor didn't they? I seem to remember Amway patches on practice jerseys. I thought it was horrible.

I missed it, thanks for the link. Speaking of comedians. I still miss Mitch Hedberg, the guy was funny as heck, too bad he died. Pablo Francisco is pretty funny though, and a lot of his impressions are spot on.

Godfather 1, it's a classic. BBQ ribs: dry rub or wet sauce?

Totally changes the concept of "back side pressure," doesn't it.

That's because he has Tatar control....
-
I think, like some others, that Nyquist has more raw talent while Tatar is the more hard working and determined, though one could say that Nyquist's talent and smoothness belies some of his hard work. They are completely different players, so in terms of "better" it seems to be a matter of taste in the observer's eyes. I would be curious to see what the advanced stats say. Personally, I like them both and think the Wings are doing well to keep them both.

I think it would be good to do for those who haven't bookmarked your blog. I know I've appreciated the pics. -
How awesome would it be if Homer managed to teach Jurco his GPS-like ability to stay outside of the crease (seriously, how many of the goals called back on Homer for goaltender interference not actually interference?). We've seen the videos of Jurco's hands, that could be a deadly combination on the PP, Jurco and Pulkkinen.

Next thing you know Shanny will show some real chutzpah and offer Craig Janney a job.
-
If he can light it up close to what he did in Grand Rapids, he will be in the running for the Calder, IMHO.

Great cap hit, but with it only being a one year deal if he tears it up like many of us hope he will, he's going to get a nice raise next year. No way he clears waivers, I agree he will likely see some PP time. Bring on the holy slapper!

Great link for those of us not in the metro Detroit area to see what's happening there. -
If he was sent down, my understanding is the full amount would be offset by the cap relief if that was to happen. If he gets$1.5 million, then $575,000 would still be on the wings cap hit.
-
I'd take a prime Dick Tarnstrom, but I doubt he leads the team in scoring.
-
The wings get approx $925,000 salary cap relief if a player is sent down, anything below that amount no longer affects them, anything above does. If it's a two-way deal odds are his NHL salary is below that $925,000 threshold and would be offset by the cap relief. That's probably why many folks are OK with Andersson being waived (plus he'd likely clear).
-
A two-way deal simply means a player receives a different salary at the AHL level than the NHL level. It has nothing to do with waivers. A one-way deal means the player is paid the NHL salary even if they are sent down.

I thought that was Toronto's make the playoffs strategy the last decade or so.

Pittsburgh is Steelers and Pirates territory. If the Pens aren't winning, they don't care about them. I remember being in Pitt for all-states in 2009 (coinciding with the start of the playoffs). My Zetterberg jersey got lots of dirty looks. When we went to a Pirates game (a 20-0 loss to the Brewers), the guy behind me started talking smack to me due to the Konstantinov jersey. My response was "If you suffered through the dark days of Dickie Tarnstrom leading the Pens in scoring from the blue line we can have a great conversation about hockey, if you're a Crosby bandwagoner zip it because you can't spell Crosby without sob and cry." His buddy started laughing and said "the Wings fan knows more about the Pens than you ever will". We ended up having a nice discussion during the game, they bought us several rounds and recommended some good places to watch hockey. They also said that it's a bandwagon hockey city.
