Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Matt replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
David Guralnick (@DavidGuralnick), photog for the Detroit News, has tweeted that the media is being blocked access to the terminal where Ilitch's plane taxis to. The plane is also on the ground now.- 487 replies

Nice detective work from Chris Hollis (@chollis) of The Production Line with this Flickr find: http://www.flickr.co...k48/5638974395/ The photo at that link shows a plane with the right tail# and matching paint scheme from the photo taken in Madison within the last hour.- 487 replies

From twitter user @RobbVogel A purported picture of the Wings' brass boarding the plane in Madison and heading back to Detroit. No Suter according to that -- but that's not surprising. Don't need him in Detroit to sign a document if it gets to that point, and a potential presser would wait until after the holiday.- 487 replies

Flight is on its way back now: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N559LC If I were a betting man I'd say Suter's not on that plane whether or not we signed him... They'd announce the signing, but the presser wouldn't be until Thursday at the earliest. No rush on anything (presser-wise, anyway.)- 487 replies

Doesn't matter -- it just means some fans did more investigative work than they did. All you need is the tail # of any of the planes registered to Olympia and you can get their FAA-submitted flight plans. It's public record, and FlightAware.com posts them online. (For instance, Red Bird III has been parked at Metro since Sunday when it got finished bringing the Tigers back from Tampa Bay.) This place will explode if the plane submits an updated flight plan to Minneapolis rather than taking off to return back to Metro in an hour.- 487 replies

What's hilarious(ly pathetic) is that I was relentlessly looking for planes registered to Olympia this morning and I couldn't find this one... (The others that I did find were in Georgia and Florida.)- 487 replies

Moving discussion over to the new(er) "Wings in Madison RIGHT NOW" thread:
-
It's frustrating to wait, but I can understand them taking their time. They don't want to be in a Rick Nash-type situation 3 from now with a lame duck organization (potentially Devils and Wild). It's a big commitment, and considering those factors you'd think they would play even more into Detroit's favor -- even moreso than Pittsburgh, which has a massive Malkin contract looming in two years that will be much tougher to handle than Datyuk's expiring contract.

^ This. What Malik posted was alluded to on SBNation earlier. No doubt he's heading home at some point, but it's complete horsecrap he's doing that *right now* when the fate of which franchise Parise/Suter still hangs in the balance. If Suter/Parise decide today he can just as easily catch a flight out to SK later today.
-
I believe Suter's agent is in Minneapolis, too... And for all we know Suter may not even be at his farm in Madison, either, since his agent wouldn't divulge that information anyway. So Babcock could be there for Parise, or for Suter, or (please, please, please) for both. No mention of other management staff there that I've seen, but I'd be surprised if Babcock is flying solo.
-
Possibly, but the only one to show up on Twitter so far is Babcock.
-
The coach of the North Dakota Women's Hockey team was in the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport 30 minutes ago and happened to walk by Mike Babcock, and he tweeted about it. It's well known that Zach Parise is flying back to Minneapolis today, and a decision is coming later today (*maybe*). The Red Wings are still "in" on Parise, and they want a face-to-face with him. Babcock is there, likely part of the hard sell. "We won't guilt trip you into signing like Lou, Zach." Suter's agent is also in Minneapolis, I believe.
-
@BradGalli North Dakota women's hockey HC @und_wih tweets he "walked past" Mike Babcock at Minn. airport. It's a major hub but worth noting.#RedWings

No, we don't. If members don't deem a thread discussion-worthy it will move down the list due to those topics that are. There's no point in having one massive thread that's discussing 20 signings and is scattershot throughout where sifting through pages of posts to find what you want to comment on becomes painstaking. Events like this only happen this week and on deadline day. No mega-threads.

Was just going to post what Jedi did: No face-to-face meetings for any NHL teams with Parise today.

signed Red Wings sign Damien Brunner, 1-year (2-way), $925,000 + bonuses
Matt posted a topic in General
@asktheduffer #redwings also confirm they have signed F Damien Brunner to one-year, 2-way, entry level deal. -
So, you guys are saying I should swap out Franzen for Tootoo on the header graphic of the forum?
-
None of these signings affect the Suter/Parise contract talks at all.. Signing Tootoo and Samuelsson has no bearing on signing the other two. Remember, soft cap during the summer is $77-million.
-
Holland has to have something stirring to move some forwards out. That's 2 today, and a full-court press to land Parise tomorrow as a 3rd.
