    Concerts. Who are you seeing?

A few weekends ago was the Super Bowl obviously, I caught a lot of free music gigs that were being put out around the area I live in in downtown New Orleans and the French Quarter. A lot of it was local stuff but pretty much everything was up my alley - a lot of instrumental funk, jazz and the like. Trombone Shorty was one of the gigs, he and his band are local but have made a good presence nationally if you are into that music genre. Soul Rebels Brass Band, Bonerama, Rebirth Brass Band were the other gigs I saw. Every spring there is New Orleans Jazz Fest down here over two weekends, I might be going one day, outside chance I might see Dave Matthews Band or Earth, Wind and Fire.

  9. Part of me likes this signing just to see people in here pissed off. Like with all whipping boys, their faults are often harped on too much and the pros aren't emphasized as much, and it is amusing to me when fans act so shocked when these guys score a goal or something like its the first time they ever did it. Because Samuelsson obtained this status in here by plenty I had a soft spot for him. If the game plan for him is to shoot shoot shoot a bunch like his last go-round here, then I'm all for it. He quietly produced for the team and should be good for hopefully 20 goals at least and 50-60 points.

Jiri Hudler signs with Calgary, 4 years, $4m/year

Happy was far from my favorite player but he had a knack to score goals in a quiet fashion. Hopefully Samuelsson can maintain the scoring slack and be good for around 20 goals at least which he is likely capable of.

G Joey MacDonald asks for trade

Feel bad for the guy. He finally broke out to have a good shot to be in the NHL full-time for good, then the back injury. Contrary to some thoughts in here, I thought he was ready for the backup gig for good this season and for the near future, injury issues aside. Hope it all works out for him.

Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Could be a good signing. Tootoo is one of the few people I really don't like much in the league largely because of past out of control incidents on the ice. That being said he's still one of the biggest pains in the rear to play against that you'd like to have on your side when he's playing under control. Can usually never go wrong with people willing to run through brick walls to hit somebody or make a play. Hopefully he gets consistent playing time with the salary he got and won't have any bad incidents.

    Bobby Ryan

As absurd as the amount of signings usually are the first day or two of free agency, there will always be a few that take longer. Parise should and likely is still considered a top target by the Wings, he's not doing anything out of whack. That being said I'd love Bobby Ryan on the roster.

    LGW Fit Club

I'll be going a bit all over the place here, so bare with me. You lost all that weight, definitely deserve fair share of credit. It's just who you want to be, that should be good enough. The heck with what others think. As for myself, firstly with looks etc. Sure how you look is important both in the personal/relationship and business world and to extend your life. Is it something to constantly lose sleep over or an ultimate deal breaker? No. But, if it is 100% under your control to where you can improve yourself physically, either in the work world or health or relationships, why wouldn't you do give it some shot? How you look is important to a degree and counts for something. If that makes me shallow, well I'm sorry. As for myself personally, I'd say about 6 1/2 - 7 years ago I began a process of losing about 35-40 pounds. I wasn't absurdly fat or having big health problems by any stretch, but I was overweight by pretty much every normal standard for my height/look (5'7"). I always liked working out and being active, I'm a pretty intense and focused in that regard for myself, I almost always get up for those things, but I never had discipline to eat. Just never really thought about diet one way or another. Exercise and working out weren't ever going to go away with me at the time, were always going to be a part of my life. I just eventually decided to give it a try to lose weight and eat/drink better. And I told myself to be patient, I had all the time in the world. If I kept that mindset and kept working out, weight would eventually go away. And it did. I didn't overly obsess with losing so much weight for in a given amount of time, I didn't have a formal weight plan, just went with the simple goals of exercise just about every day and eat better, and enjoy doing both. I lost roughly 35-40 pounds in probably just a 4 month time span. Sure, looking good around others in work and social settings and getting compliments made me feel good, but in the end it was for me myself and I. I wanted to look healthy, I wanted to feel good physically and mentally for myself. No direct pressure whatsoever from my family, co-workers, anybody telling me I needed or should change. I wasn't directly trying to impress a girl or family members or any other angles. Just wanted to do it for me. And today I still keep up the intesity and enjoyment of exercise nearly every day, and while I could diet better at times I enjoy knowing I can pretty much eat whatever I want and still look and feel healthy.
