    2012 Lockout Watch

The big hangup from what I can tell are the Coyotes the Panthers and the other small market teams. They are getting murdered with the salary cap floor. While Det, Pitt, Van, Chi, Phi, NY ect are making massive profits, the small teams arent keeping up. Since it is easy to say that they should move the team to a bigger market, that has a much bigger affect and isnt all that easy. I think the cap should be the same. I also think minimum salary should go up. Last I think the cap floor should drop. This will keep small teams from over paying players just to get above the cap floor. This will also contract the inflation in salaries because of the floor. More or less, if a player sees that some no name team is paying a top 40 defenseman top 20 pay because of the cap, the top 20 players are going to want pay that is exponetially higher. This has a circular affect that keeps feeding on its self and over time making the problem worse. I also would like to see the teams being able to release players the same way as the NFL. If you get hurt, thats life, youre a millionaire that has a bad knee. No need to keep the player under contract if they cant play. Eaves is a perfect example for this, a great guy and good player but is dragging the finacials because he cant play but also cant be released. This is a bigger issue for teams with WAY less cash the DET. Bettman needs to work it out, if he oversees another lockout I pray my wishes are fulfilled and he is sent packing. We dont need such an anti player commisioner.
  5. Our chances of a long term solution to our defensive issues are falling apart faster than a Made in China Card House... Things are looking pretty damn iffy for us. That is unless we have some 16 year old prospect that makes Nicky look like a poser in comparison.

    Quincey files for arbitration

You negleted to think that I already thought about that....How productive is an employee that feels he is being underpaid or more personally, UNDERAPPRECIATED? Thats why I said we are going to be rostered up with inexperienced AHL players before too long. I didnt say we would have all of them in a literal sense either. Only that any spots that would be open to high end players will be filled by upward movement within the organization meaning that the bottom spots will be filled by the new kids. Things arent looking good and even the hypothetical transactions are very VERY unlikely right now (like trading for Nash or Weber whom would both be better pickups than Parise or Suter IMO). Back to the point, Quincey aint that great and if hes pissed, jaded or otherwise unenthused with playing for us for the pay hes getting then its better to leave him and deal with the players that are excited to play for what they are being paid.

    Quincey files for arbitration

Take the damn picks and let him go. This team is looking more and more like Edmonton by the second. We are about an inch from calling this a "rebuilding" team.. We are most likely going to see every top player from Grand Rapids on the Wings roster next year no doubt about it. Im sure the NHL12 crew is all over it but there are real problems with experience on our team. When all is said and done we have Kron as the D mentor and Z, D and Mule as the mentors for the forwards. As great as they are, thats not a deep group for training the new recruits. I have this feeling that Holland expected Ericcson to learn more from Nicky before he left and now that hes gone and its obvious Pylon didnt pick up much, hes trying to just put a full roster together with whatever is available. Lets pray we dont hae injuries that require calling up from the 2nd line of the Griffins since the 1st line will already be on the Wings.. There are the Chicken Littles and the Poly Annas on this board and I think the sky is falling..

Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild

    C) you sit down with Ken and tell him that his total pooch screwing fest the last few years is coming to an end or hes out of a job.. Hes had more than a few years to take care of our defense situation and hasnt. In the mean time he overpaid for Mule and Erricson. Spending money on Quincey was even worse. I hope you cant say with a straight face that Holland has been making the transac tions of a top tier GM. If so, go back to playing NHL 12

Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild

His job is to DO not to TRY. You know you have a cush job when all you gotta do is "try" and its okay. I dont think Illitch is a TRY type of owner. Holland earned his mulligans but I think hes getting close to or fresh out of them after the last few years of non results. I am a business owner and if I was in a sector that was as fast moving and cut throat as hockey was, Holland would have one last chance at this point. Otherwise hes costing you money at the risk of no return. I had to let go our shop foreman for this very reason, he got way to comfortable in his job and finally took advatange of our good graces one too many times. Holland is on borrowed time unless he makes a monster deal to shore up our team.

Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild

Nope cant fault him for Suter and Parise (Detroit doesnt have farmland to drive a tractor around on), I can fault him for not having a good go to plan. He rode out Nicky till he left and now hes in a situation that could actually cost him his job. When it gets down to brass tacks, he makes some type of huge trade to get our team to where it needs to be or hes out. If Im Illitch thats the only out I give you. Then its Jim Nills turns until we can pick up Stevie if that ever happens or ever turns into a good idea.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

whats the signing bonus to go along with the 110/13 off PHI drafted? If its zippo then by all accounts our offer is better than that with the upside being that he gets 14 mil in the first two years (assuming not front loaded like other massive contracts ie Mule and Z) plus 24 mil in signing bonuses in that same time period. All in all hes looking at 114/13 years and gets 38 in the first two. I wish my name was Zach or Ryan they have such tough decisions to make...

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?

Christ has it been that long? I stopped following Basketball after the Kings owners ditched the whole team in an effort to get them moved and havent watched since. Sorry about that and it reminded me that Im getting that much older where 10 years ago seems like just yesterday.

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?

I think people are underestimating the schedule and demand of basketball. They play a very similar schedule to the NHL with as many games. Anyone that has played ball even in low ranked college leagues know its far from a cake walk. Doing wind sprints up and down the court for 2 minutes straight only to get a 20 sec break is not for the untrained. Granted the potential for physical injury is always less in basketball but when you get a bunch of 6 1/2 foot plus, 200# + guys with long arms and elbows like spears, broken noses and the like are likely. Basketball is and always will be a finesse sport though. Unless you are a center or forward, you arent risking much of anything as far as physical damage save for a sprained ankle. The playoffs also have the lame best of 5 rounds that lessen the victory itself. Nevertheless, the Cup is the ultimate crucible to end a very long and arguis sp? season . It has the longest season if you include 7 games x 4 rounds, its also the most physically demanding both for conditioning but also toughness. Not much to say beyond that. When you may possibly play 110 games of full contact, full throttle hockey and win it, it proves that you are probably the most elite athletes in the world.

The L.A. Kings: One and Done or Dynasty?

Its gonna take more than a Cindarella story to be a dynasty. Look at the Wings whom from 97-09 appeared at and won more cups than any other team in the last 20 years AND arent considered a dynasty by the NHL . Of the teams to possibly win it, the Kings, Coyotes and of course the Wings were the only ones Id want to carry it. That said I dont expect a repeat performance, there are just too many variables that magically fell into place for them. They peaked at the perfect time, had no injuries to speak of and were unreal on the road. The road performance may even be hard to replicate as we killed it on the road a year ago and this season it was a complete 180. I hope they keep it up but I dont see them as an upper echelon elite team over the long term ie; the next decade.

    Please Mr. I...

I know they probably cannot do it but Caesars Palace would be fitting. Gordie Howe Pavillion Red Wings Center Motor City Arena JLA Memorial Auditorium Olympia Colosseum The Horn and absolutely without a doubt, the boards better make it over. I laugh everytime a national broadcaster or rival teams announcer comments about the "lively boards". They are the most important thing about the JLA in my opinion.

Brad Stuart's rights traded to San Jose

You look at his performance in 2010-11 and compare it to 2011-12 when he made it verbally known that he wanted to leave. The performance was night and day. He made Ericcson look like Nicky in comparison. He skated away from the puck, made little effort to maintain puck possesion and although everyone looked crappola in the Playoffs this year, he was one of the worst out there. I dont understand the love fest for him when it was obvious he had zero intention of playing hard last season. stats are games played, goals, assists, points, PIM, +/- 2010-11 Detroit Red Wings NHL 67 3 17 20 40 4 2011-12 Detroit Red Wings NHL 81 6 15 21 29 16 He played less the year prior and had almost the same numbers, I dont look at plus minus because that is a team stat. He wasnt helping as much and definitely wasnt manning up on guys like he did in the previous year.

Brad Stuart's rights traded to San Jose

Glad to see him gone. Last year he stunk up the whole blue line most likely to be traded. He got his wish going to the fkn Guppies, dont let the door hit you on the way out Brad.

    Red Wings Next Captain

+96 for Homer w/ the C. Hes the last of the old guard although I expect a slightly less intelligible presser than Nicks in the next few days. Just think, it could be a new precedent for Wings Captains. We can start with Homer for a year, then on to Pavs after that. Captains that no one can understand!!! ...Whodda Thunk?? Seriously though its sad to see Nick go and I hope that a Wings lifer is picked. Z or Kronner are looking like the two front runners and personally, Id rather see Kron as Captain. I see Kron as a guy that goes out every shift and makes a difference. Z is a superstar but I just dont see his impact on the ice as important as the two Nicks were and now one Nick every night and every shift.. So if Homer doesnt get it or retires I hope to see Kron with the C next season.

    San Jose Sharks

The Guppies are perennial chokers. They are Toronto with some talent but as the teams get better in the Pacific dont be surprised if they tend to fall down the rankings as time goes on. Short and sweet, you have your head stuck in the spot that stinks most.

#8 Los Angeles Kings vs. #2 St. Louis Blues

BUBYE BLUES!!!!! Best Coach in the league and you suck it up to the Kings and IMO best team of the Playoffs. Glad the Mullets in Missiery dont get to cheer on a team that plays a sport they dont even understand. No its not first down if you get hit at the blue line... LATER!!!!!!!

So I had an idea for the WC jerseys

You tried and thats a whole lot more than most people do, so count yourself a success for giving it a shot. Ive been poking around and it looks like the general idea of the last design is being drawn all over the place giving me the thought that if you did it and others designed something like it, its probably what the Wings are doing as well. Till then we shall have to wait and speculate.

So I had an idea for the WC jerseys

I agree on seeing what you dreamt up, credit or not, would be awesome. Just brought it up because I have seen this first hand through my ex's work. Designs were stolen and presented as their own with absolutley no compensation. Here comes the buzzkill, real world, lawyer powered, life sucking reality of the situation. Dont discount the fact that there is quite a bit of money possible if your design is used. Literally millions of dollars in royalties if you consider just the sweaters sold. The downside is that teams have a lot of copyright law on their side. Unsolicited works with copyrighted logos are theirs to keep (or copy) and also to prosecute against if used without permission. Short and sweet is that you want to make yourself solicited ie; the DRW comes to you for design work.. That isnt all that easy but the only way you are kept in the loop and have a possibilty of any recognition, monetarily or not. NOW. If you dont give two s***s about recognition or 1 dollar in royalties from sales of sweaters, by all means spread this design all over the web. Get an email list of the DRW front office and spam them with it. Suck thing is some graphic design firm will take the credit if they copy you and make a hefty sum of cash in the process. If anything you copyrighted yourself to an extent by adding your name to every rendering but a simple change absolves themselve of that. Thats why youd want an insider that can agree to a solicitation of your work. Regardless of the crapola that is business and everything that goes with it, LGW.com will know its yours if they wear that sweater at the big house qnd Ill give you massive props for it alone. Im sure this forum could probably get enough joojoo going at the DRW that a contest could get you or someone else here picked to design just for the PR. Again, good luck with getting it seen nationwide, I think you have a good eye for design and take artistic criticism the way any graphic designer should... do what other people say looks good lol. I wanna see the Wings in a uni like this and I hope you get some credit evgen if its all access tix to the classic. READ ABOUT UNSOLICTED WORK

So I had an idea for the WC jerseys

Main phone number for the Wings is 313-983-6606, Im sure if they want to talk to you will find a way through this number. Send an email to the PR or Advertising depts. I would take off the D's on the shoulders and you may want to put the Winter Classic patch on the front of the shoulder if you are serious about pitching the design to them. I think the design without the D;s is the best interpretation of the original uni and screwing with it is just adding stuff that doesnt need to be there. The D;s of the first rendering worked well but I dont think its fits with the last iteration. A weird rub is if you expect any compensation for the design if it did happen to be used. You may want to get an "in" before sending any images or designs. After there is a written agreement about how the design will be used and royalties for it, if any, then send the designs to them. Reason I say that is large organizations, sports or not, love unsolicited works because they can up and use them and give you nothing, even credit you designed them. Good luck, I hope I can buy one too!!!
