Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons
Red Wings Addict replied to ogreslayer's topic in Hall of Fame
So what role should Lidstrom have with the organization moving forward? I know a lot of people want him to be the coach of the defense but he can't really do that while living in Sweden. I think he should partner up with Hakan Andersson in the European scouting department. You do travel some but I bet they'll let Nick determine how much traveling he wants to do. -
Just need to find a way to keep Zetterberg healthy and in tip-top shape for longer stretches. Any medical research updates in Sweden that he can use? Hehe.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

Lidstrom's comments about his strength make me think his retirement had nothing to do with whether or not Kenny was willing to make the right moves. The man has simply had enough. -
Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

I remember when Brendan Smith scored two goals and on the second he did the Heisman pose. On ice. It was... interesting.- 294 replies

At that time it was more than clear. However, we've seen too many stretches were Zetterberg didn't play well to put it nicely. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be next in command but certainly one can understand why some would question whether or not he'd be the next captain. For the record I'd always thought he'd be the next captain.

Kronwall had an A for seemingly the entire season. Honestly I felt like he had it on every game. I think they wanted to make it clear to him how much they value him.
-
Could be that way. The 4th A could go to Filppula as well. Both Cleary and Fil are due for new contracts. Fil seems like the better long-term investment.

I'm inclined to think that Nick has simply had enough. I don't think it has anything to do with whether or not Kenny will make the right moves. -
You'd probably have a better reaction on a Preds board.

I just hope Datsyuk is still on the team in five years. Zetterberg-(Datsyuk)-Franzen (I really, really hope Pav re-signs) (*Landeskog*)-Jarnkrok-Nyquist (*or a quality power forward from somewhere*) Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco Aubry/Abdelkader-Helm-Mursak Suter-Sproul Kronwall-Quincey/Ericsson Smith-Ouellet Don't sleep too much on Jensen, Backman and Marchenko. Like Ouellet, all three have a similar projection of a Marc-Edouard Vlasic type of game or in other words, a dman who always seems to move the puck safely or simply make plays in that prevent danger for a team. Jensen and Marchenko also shoot right-handed. So all in all without any annoying annotations... Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Franzen Landeskog-Jarnkrok-Nyquist Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco Abdelkader-Helm-Mursak Kronwall-Ericsson Suter-Sproul Smith-Ouellet Looks good to me now but in five years who knows what kind of steroids or anti-steroids the league will be on then.

“He's a shooter, kind of unique for a European because Europeans are always known for over-passing,'' Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill said. "You don't like to make comparisons, but his game is a lot like Brett Hull's. He's got a quick release, he's pure goal-scorer.''

#6 New Jersey Devils vs. #1 New York Rangers

Possible shoulder injury. Hmm. That sounds familiar to another high profile Slovak player's situation from a couple years ago. Do they not have shoulder steroids in Slovakia? -
You can really grow your brand in NYC If you care about such things. Although I can't really recall many of today's hockey players who are too obnoxious about their brands except for the usual suspects. Although I think Tortorella is the top coach that players DON'T want to play for iirc. I'm not sure why but I remember that result from a player poll. If I had to guess it's probably because his kind of yelling, if done recklessly and too often, can really lose a locker room. So you have to consider that. I still think Pavel and Z are perfect fits as centerman for Parise. Especially the playoff version of Zetterberg.

The cover photo of him should be something like the attachment except from his front side. untitled.bmp

How possible is it for teams to make shrewd and risky trades for young talent? Like say, trading for Shea Weber at a time before he became the Shea Weber he is today. Is that a plausible route that Kenny can pursue as far as "big talents" go?
-
What's the punishment for that? Maybe we should start a Jersey Wing bail/fine donation box here on LGW, hehe.

I never like to make a call on who's going to make it big but I still have high hopes for a lot of them. Specifically, I have high legitimate top caliber hopes for: Nyquist Smith (top-three dman) Tatar Jarnkrok Jurco I have a little more moderated hopes for: Mrazek (luxury backup goalie), luxury as in excellent quality for a secondary option Sheahan (luxury third line center) Ouellet (luxury #5 dman) And I know I'm going to piss off a lot of people here with this statement but my intuition just doesn't sense much from Pulkkinen. Yeah yeah, I know, I'm not Jim Nill so I don't know s***. Bla bla bla.
-
It would be a fair concern for me but that doesn't mean I'd pass on him entirely. He really would be awesome with both Pav and Z. Sometimes I feel like Parise is a better fit with Zetterberg 5 on 5 and then maybe with Datsyuk on the power play. 5 on 5 though, a team would have to worry about both funneling pucks to the net and/or crashing the net, which could leave a lot of room for another shooter like Mule to do some real damage. If he loses in the finals then yeah I can see that really pissing off a player.
-
It's at least a nice sentiment to tell ourselves.
-
If the Devils win the cup how much, if any, does that detract from your interest in Parise? He's a great player. At the same time I want star players who are desperate for a championship.

Just like a couple years ago, up front, I like who USA has on the wings. The top six, however, could really use a more than legitimate playmaking center you know? Especially on a bigger ice surface where skill comes out a little more. I suppose they can try Kane at center but meh... yuck. They got Pavelski I suppose but meh... Canada has ridiculous wealth down the middle WITHOUT Crosby Sweden has Sedin, Backstrom and Zetterberg Russia has Malkin and Datsyuk Finland has Koivu Even Slovenia has Kopitar USA needs their own version of Crosby of something. Although it'd be quite a story if the USA made it to the gold medal game again without such notoriety at the center position.

So the perfect human and the perfect robot? Nice. Yes I know...
