Babs needs to go, there will be no star additions in offseason, too few players and too many buyers, just play lines consisting of people who have comparable skill and let them develop some chemistry. This crazy bussiness of changing lines all the time must stop, it breaks the team.

Sorry, but cannot agree with this one, Detroit needed a big five, elite 1st line, stormtroopers in this series. Instead Babs waisted Pav trying to make a star out of Cleary or Fransen. Altimately, I agree, games are lost by players, but still... I like Babs, but why could not he be smarter?

Cleary does not belong to 1st line. All he does is cancelling Datsyuk's skill.

Babs run out of ideas on how to win this series,and he is a major reason why Wings are loosing it. He is sticking with the balanced lines approach and it is cleary not working, Wings don't have that much talent they used to have 15 years ago (Russian 5 & SteveY, Shanahan). The talent is too diluted, both in the league and among Wings. Let's see: Dats plays with guys who can score only occasionally and can't pass; Z plays with guys who can pass ocasionally and can't score. Plus, there is not a single defensemen among Wings who could join the attack and substitute for a forward when there is an opportunity (even Nick, Rafalski was probably the only one). The result: Wings' attack is too predictable and expertly suppressed by well-organized Nashville defence. Shot stats? How many do you need to score from centre line? Nashville defence is good, so is the goalie, they are entrenched, and you need "shock troops" to break through - unite Dats and Z: they both can pass and score, put Fil with them (at least he can skate and pass, most of the time). Then again they will need time to start clicking, but Babs loves to change lines and that destroys chemistry.... too bad, Wings are losing to a bunch of grinders.

Buddy, it is better to have some ideas rather then good spelling. Real good style putting a comment about spelling. Sure, Nashville series can be won and I believe in that (and good luck happens too), but the problem remains. I would rather not rely on good luck in future.

So, you guys want a team of grinders? Why not join fans of Boston or Nashville then - I personally enjoy watching pretty goals scored once in a while and SKILL has been the signature of the Wings since early 90s. BTW that weakling Semin scored NICE winner today, and when great tough Abdelcader scored last time? If we get Semin, at least Datsyuk won't be bored dead playing with you know whom (Parize does sound better choice to me then Semin, but a lot of teams want him). Finally, Bert, Mule, and Holmstrom can all be considered grinders - unite them in a Red Bombers line and give the assignement to hit rather then score.

Probably too expensive. If not, I bet Jagr would want to play for Wings; I would love to see that, may be he could teach Fransen how to be a consistent goal scorer.. But is it even theoretically possible, or it will be another Nabokov-type story?

Larionov was the GM/CEO of SKA St. Petersburgin 2008-2009 and did not like KHL much; lately he declined to be the GM of Russian National Olympic team because he believed he had to have the right to select players and coaches (isn't that what GMs do normally?). He seems to be in North America (like Detroit?), where his kids are. The man was the smartest player (maybe after Gretz) and an architect of puck possession style, why not use him?

Big 5 is even more urgent now, after the retirements and the rise of the "clones" like Vanand SJ; time to push it further. I agree with Titanium though, most Russians are not suitable for this type of play anymore, and certainly Ovi or Kovalchuk would not be (too much ego and not enough brain). How about: Zetterberg/Hudler – Datsyuk/Filppula - Bertuzzi/Fransen Kronwall– (? for Rafalski– mobile offensive d.) And get Professor on board as assistant coach, he was the guy who made it happen for the Russians, then for the Sharks and finally in Det, the only one who was present in all 5s. Would be silly not to use him if he is available. I think he is still in Detroit area?
