I know I've said we should be patient with our prospects and let them further develop in Grand Rapids... but man, some of these vets are hard to watch in Detroit... Nielsen and Filppula need to be traded at some point before next season. Erne, Ehn, de la Rose, Green, Daley and Ericsson need to be let go... Next season... Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Lafreniere - Veleno - Athanasiou Svechnikov - Rasmussen - Zadina Hirose - Glendening - Abdelkader / Helm DeKeyser - Hronek Nemeth - Seider Cholowski - Bowey

We also have Regula on the right side. 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) through his first 5 games this season. 2021 Cholowski - Seider McIsaac - Hronek DeKeyser - Regula Tuomisto

I know what it's all about. I lived out on the west coast for a couple years. Loved getting off work, grabbing supper and immediately watching hockey. Double header would be over before 11. Weather was great out there as well... But it ain't home... I get why people love it out west, but I have no interest in moving back.

He's looked good. I don't think it's reasonable to expect him to keep up his current pace, but if he can stay close to a point per game for another dozen or so games, I'd like to see him get another shot in Detroit. I have to admit, he's been doing quite well down the middle. If he can be a more productive version of Brain Boyle, I'd be thrilled. I still have no idea why we brought in Filppula, especially since he's been rotating between center / wing on Nielsen's line. I want one or both of these guys gone by next season...

I don't even need to look up the stats. What Boeser and Necas have done so far in their respective careers, far exceeds anything either of these guys have done. Svech and Ras look like middle six winger / center, at best. Boeser and Necas are legit top line winger / center.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't see any harm in him developing in the minors for half, or even one full season.

Let me tell you why everything you just said holds no value... +/-. It's about as weak a personal stat as you can possibly find, but I'm sure you know that... Seider will be a damn fine defenseman, and is without a doubt already better than at least a few of the defensemen currently occupying a spot in our top six. However, where we disagree is that Seider playing in Detroit is definitively better for his development than top pair minutes in Grand Rapids for one season. Seider will get a look with the big club at some point this season.

If we drafted Cozens, he would have been Veleno's winger, not his replacement at center. Brock Boeser > Evgeny Svechnikov Martin Necas > Michael Rasmussen The jury is still out on Zadina and Seider. I think both were good picks. Will they be the *best* picks at 6th overall? Time will tell...

I'm not sure what pre-draft hype or draft position has to do with anything though. Point remains that 18/19 years old is way too early to declare a prospect a "bust". Even if Zadina doesn't live up to the draft day hype, that doesn't make him a bust. Some fans want instant gratification. Others know development is more often than not, a slow, sometimes painful process.

Abdelkader has been one of the better players on this team through 5 games. Working his ass off, making smart plays. If he keeps this up, I'm okay with him being overpaid by a mil or so, playing out his career on our 4th line. I love Glendening, but he shouldn't ever be above a bottom six role. Despite de la Rose scoring last night, he along with Ehn shouldn't be on an NHL roster.

I wouldn't even say that anyone excited about him should be eating crow at this point. It's still way too early. The kid is still only 19 years old for f***s sake... He performed quite well as an 18/19 year old in his first pro, and I fully expect him to improve on that this season. He scored a really nice goal last night. He still has some things to work on, like any prospect, but anyone that watches him without bias one way or another, can see that there is a lot of promise in his game. At worst, Zadina will be a solid 2nd line winger. At best, he still has the potential to become a borderline elite, top line winger. But yeah, there are always a few idiots that, for whatever reason, hate on certain prospects and hope they fail, just so they can say "told ya so"...

Always took more flack than he ever deserved. Solid bottom pairing defenseman that carved out a solid NHL career. For better or worse, was a Red Wing for 12 seasons.

Remember that time over half the fan base wrote Mantha off waaaaay too early? Those guys are f***ing idiots aren't they? Same will be the case for all the idiots writing Zadina off at the age of 19...

Similar to what I was thinking about... Looking at last season's standings, let's say the last place team in the NHL (Ottawa Senators) were relegated to the AHL, and the Calder Cup Champions (Charlotte Checkers) were promoted to the NHL. According to @kipwinger, the Sens would go 76-0-0 and win every game by 50+ goals, and the Checkers would go 0-0-82 and lose every game by 50+ goals. Ridiculous... I think the Sens would win a lot of games in the AHL this season, but they would for sure lose a few as well. Same goes for the Checkers in the NHL. They would lose a lot of games in the NHL, but would definitely win a scattered game...
