    Detroit trades Datsyuk to Arizona

The difference between Cholowski and Smith, is hockey IQ. Cholowski's seems to be high end. Smith's is lacking... I agree with you on Hronek. I just think Cholowski has another gear as well. We seen glimpses of what he can be at the beginning of the season. I think he'll get back to that.

    Detroit trades Datsyuk to Arizona

D*** move man... I seen the "TRADE" tag and got super excited... But yeah, I agree. We definitely won that trade. I'm not ready to say for sure that Hronek > Cholowski though. I think both have top pair (#2) potential. Hronek seems to have leapfrogged Cholowski for now, but don't count out the kid just yet...

Disappointing, but about all you can expect from the 12th/13th forward. Bert has only played 4 games... Career minor leaguer. This is true. Almost like he's not even playing in these games...

WCF: San Jose Sharks vs. St Louis Blues

I think it's pretty much guaranteed to be a 3rd now... Doubt they re-sign Nyquist... unfortunately.

WCF: San Jose Sharks vs. St Louis Blues

Yeah, pretty much how I feel as well. Of all the teams left, I'd like to see St. Louis win the Cup, then San Jose. F*** Boston... I want that 2nd round pick over anything else though.

    2019 Draft

    3% - Bust (less than 200 NHL games) 12% - Middle six winger (25-40 points) 25% - Top six winger (45-60 points) 50% - Top line winger (65-80 points) 10% - Elite top line winger (85+ points)

I doubt they'll have the cap space. For that reason, I'm going for the Sharks.

    2019 Draft

I agree, CRL and mackel are on completely different levels. However, CRL did start out a lot closer to that same level (trolling joking or not). The ONLY reason any of this started was because people were calling Zadina a bust at 18/19 years old. We started debating where Zadina projects to be in the future (bust or not), and is now all that matters is where he is now (what he did this season). Most think Zadina had a good season given his age and level of experience. CRL and mackel think Zadina had a bad season because of his poor +/-... Most think Zadina has a bright future. CRL is "not doubting he could be the next Kucherov at 21". mackel still thinks he will be a bust...

    2019 Draft

No, Kotkaniemi is not "literally better" than Zadina right now. He produced more points. If given the choice, I'd still take Zadina over Kotkaniemi. Disagree on this too. I think Zadina has a higher floor and ceiling than Rasmussen, but I highly doubt either will be a bust, and it's way too early to give up on either.

    2019 Draft

Which is true. In my opinion, it is very possible that he could have. Also, using the same metric, Zadina would have scored 23 points over a full NHL season, not 17. Not far off 25, and could have pretty easily scored a few extra points which would be closing in on the 35 point pace that Kotkaniemi was on. Regardless, none of this indicates that Kotkaniemi is better or will be better than Zadina. Anyway, I'm done with this. I think it's ridiculous to call Zadina a bust (mackel) at this point, or even a disappointment because of "lack of defensive acumen" or "+/-"... Like mackel said, let's wait and see. I'm confident that Zadina will be at the very least a very good top six scorer, and I'd bet on him being a borderline elite top line sniper.

    2019 Draft

I'm well aware of the league translation factor. I do notice that you said "pretty much", every player though... So you can't just plug that number in and assume Zadina would have scored 17 points in Detroit? Or that Kotkaniemi would have scored 74 points in Laval? The games would have to be played... Yes, it is a general rule. No, it does not apply to every single player. Mika Zibanejad put up 11 points in 23 games in the AHL (0.48 points per game), and then 20 points in 42 games in the NHL (0.48 points per game). Filip Forsberg put up 34 points in 47 games in the AHL (0.72 points per game). He then went on to have back to back seasons in the NHL where he put up 0.76 and 0.77 points per game. That's just two examples. I'm sure there are many others. No, Zadina is not a magical unicorn. And no, he wouldn't have had to score more in a higher league. I said it was possible that Zadina could have put up similar numbers as Kotkaniemi if he had played a full season in the NHL. Kotkaniemi was on a 35 point pace. Zadina was on a 49 point pace. So it would have been a lower pace, not higher.

    2019 Draft

If only the game were played on paper... I'm not saying he would have. I'm saying he could have. The bold makes me wonder why the hell I'm arguing with you. You've already said you don't think he's going to be a bust, and being a drafted 5-10 level prospect, is FAR from a bust. The "Zadina is going to be a bust" bulls*** is the only reason any of this s*** started. Regardless, looking at +/- for a 18/19 year old rookie is dumb in my opinion. You know who else is "one dimensional"? Patrik Laine... Elite scoring isn't a bad dimension to have. And don't take that as me saying that Zadina will be as good as Laine (although I think he could be), just that I'm completely fine with wingers being "one dimensional", as long as they're producing and not a liability defensively (which I'm sure Zadina won't be)...

    2019 Draft

I'm saying he could have put up 25 or 35 or 45. That's the point, we don't know how he would have done if he played a full season in Detroit or Montreal or Halifax. A completely different situation would lead to completely different results. Sure, it's not ideal, but you don't think age / experience should be taken into account here? Cholowski was a team worst -20 on the Red Wings this season. Do you think that's a cause for concern? Or do you think he's a 20 year old rookie defenseman and he'll figure it out? It's the latter for me. I think Zadina will be fine and Cholowski will be fine, despite what their atrocious +/- stats say...

    2019 Draft

This is by far the dumbest reasoning I've seen yet as to why we got "duped" picking Zadina... If Montreal had picked Zadina and Detroit then picked Kotkaniemi, I'd bet anything that Zadina would have made the Canadiens roster and put up similar numbers in Montreal and Kotkaniemi would have been cut by the Red Wings and played another season in the Finnish Elite League. One player making a team and another player not making a completely different team means absolutely nothing in regards to which player is better, and certainly not which player projects to be better long term. Fallacy argument if I ever did see one...

    2019 Draft

+/- is probably the most important stat in hockey... Bad +/- = Bad player. Drew Doughty is the worst player in the NHL. Stamkos was the worst player in the playoffs. Malkin a Kopitar are awful players... You must have also missed the part where I said that defensive awareness is probably the easiest thing to teach a young player. Not that Zadina should really worry about that, but even if Zadina is awful defensively (he's not), is that why he equals bust in your mind?
  20. Step 1. No. Step 2. No. Step 3. No.

    2019 Draft

His two-way game is well above average for a 19 year old scoring winger. Do you expect him to be a Selke candidate? Even if his defensive game has been overstated (I don't think it has), who cares? He's still competent defensively, and that should be good enough. Personally, I don't want every player on the team (especially wingers) to think defense first. Players that are as gifted offensively as Zadina, should be able to do what they do best, produce offense. Even if his defense is as bad as you claim, defense can be taught. Nothing about Zadina's game or his first pro season stats indicate any cause for concern. Zadina will not be a bust. He will be a very good top line winger in a few years producing north of 60 points.

    Blashill Coaching Team USA Again

Why are so many people convinced that Blashill is only here for the rebuild, and then he's getting canned as soon as we're good again? I'm not saying he will be here beyond the next couple years, but I wouldn't rule it out. I think Blash is a better coach than he gets credit for by Wings fans.

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

Chances are that's about all he would be offered by the Leafs, being an RFA, but if a team wants to pry him away from Toronto, they're going to have to offer a lot more than that. Kapanen would be a huge add for this team and he'd be worth every penny of $4.2M. No way the Leafs wouldn't match a contract in the $3-3.5M range. Edit: $4.2M is the maximum salary to keep the compensation as low as a 2nd round pick. Doubt it happens, but I'd do it.

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

Yeah, I doubt there'll be any offer sheets, but I think some GM (not necessarily Yzerman) should offer sheet Kapanen for $4.2M... and not just because I want the Leafs f***ed over... I think it could be a low risk, high reward signing.

    2019 Draft

Interesting. You seen the exact opposite of pretty much every amateur scout... Except that his numbers were very good for a teenager playing his first year pro, coming from juniors... If Zadina remained in juniors, he too would be pushing for a Memorial Cup with Halifax, and likely be one of the best players in the league.
