This simply isn't true... IF we were to luck out in next year's draft lottery and land Hughes, and IF he becomes an 80-100 point player, that doesn't necessarily mean he's captain material. I would consider Larkin / Hughes to be a very similar situation to Toews / Kane. Kane is the much more skilled player, but Toews "Captain Serious" is much better suited as the captain. You, being a Toews fan boy, should know that you don't need to be the best player on the team to be the captain...

Why would Larkin have to give up the C just because we draft Hughes? The captain doesn't necessarily need to be the best player on the team. Larkin has all the leadership qualities you'd want in a captain. Hughes could be an alternate captain, or maybe not get a letter at all... Matthews doesn't wear a letter, and it looks like they might give the C to Tavares next season. Matthews will likely get an A if that were to happen though.

Close to what? What we get for Tatar? I agree. A first round pick? I disagree.

Larkin will be named the next Detroit Red Wings captain next season.

Haha I said Foote, not Hague...

Yeah, I have noticed that, which kinda sucks. However, all bets are off when Yzerman takes over. He'll want to make a mark on HIS team! His first move, Nielsen to Tampa for Foote...

There will be teams interested in Nyquist, and although I highly doubt a team will overpay as much as Vegas did last season for Tatar, I still think he'll garner at least a 1st round pick. I love Nyquist, but not trading him would be a huge mistake in my opinion.

Why does the NHL sort teams by points and not percentage or games behind like in the NBA or MLB?

No, that's not what he "said". That's maybe what he meant, but what he said was "I challenge anyone to provide a logical reason for "in season" standings to have any meaning or use." , They do have a use, it's just a matter of how people interpret them. -

How the hell is Bertuzzi the net front guy over Rasmussen? That can't be right, is it?... Mantha is still being used as a net front I see... Put him in the slot where he can utilize his shot, and use Bertuzzi and Rasmussen as the net front on each unit... Bertuzzi (net front) Athanasiou (shooter) - Larkin (bumper) - Mantha (shooter) Daley (quarterback) Rasmussen (net front) Vanek (shooter) - Nielsen (bumper) - Nyquist (shooter) Cholowski (quarterback)

Not really a fan of the line combos or defense pairings... I would have liked to see something like... Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Vanek - Athanasiou - Rasmussen Ehn - Nielsen - Nyquist Abdelkader - Helm - Glendening Cholowski - Daley DeKeyser - Jensen Sulak - Ericsson Oh well, not a huge deal. I'm sure they'll be switched up before the end of the first period, maybe even before the game starts...

Sooooo... you're saying that the standings do serve a purpose, and they're not completely meaningless?... -
Very true. Depth is important, but I don't think acquiring a minor league starter would be all that costly, and like I said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they have one of them back in the organization in the next few weeks.

So Sulak made it over Hicketts and Hronek? Ehn and Svechnikov made it over Witkowski? Good things are happening!

Hey, Mrazek is starting Thursday night against the Islanders. He's getting a shutout. Don't be surprised if he's a Vezina finalist this season...

Exact same as what? The "Opening Night Roster" one? Not the same. We have a "Lines Thread" every year, and this is it...

This really wasn't a big loss to the Leafs and as much as I hate it, it was the right move. They have a top 10 starting goaltender in Andersen, and the best goalie in the AHL last season (by far) as their backup, who is only 25 years old. They lost a very good backup in McElhinney, who is 35 years old, and a decent backup in Pickard. They could also re-claim one of these guys in a few weeks when either Darling or Neuvirth get healthy. ... and Matthews, and Marner, and Tavares...

2018-2019 Opening Night Roster - Dedicated to BlueAdams!
krsmith17 replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
I'll rephrase that. Talent-less try-hards are the f***ing worst... in the NHL. Talent-less try-hards are okay in the AHL to mentor the kids. Lashoff is a good mentor for the kids in the minors. They need someone down there to show them the ropes, how to train, how to be a pro... -
