I agree. I've been advocating for this for years now. I agree, but I don't think there's any way a player of Pietrangelo caliber becomes available.

Best case scenario, Daley is a decent number 4 at this point in his career. In my opinion he's better suited as a 3rd pairing defenseman. I don't see how you can say that Daley is that much better than Jensen though. They're not that far apart in my opinion. I disagree that you need a veteran on every pair. But even if you do have that philosophy, DeKeyser is a veteran at this point, so we could go with Green - top pair, DeKeyser - 2nd pair, Ericsson (or Jensen) - 3rd pair. You think Daley and his $3.2M and a 6th round pick (Jensen trade) is more valuable than Jensen and his $800K and a 3rd round pick (Daley trade) (hypothetical). I disagree. If we could trade Daley at this year's trade deadline, I'd do it without thinking twice. Like has been mentioned, Green is the better veteran and with him being here for another 2 years (potentially longer), Daley isn't needed. I'd be open to bringing Green back in two years time, but I'm not ready to say sitting here today that that will be the best thing for the team at that point. A lot can happen in that time. It depends on how Green ages in the next two years, how our prospects develop in the next two years, who we draft next year, who else is available via free agency at that time, if any trades are made in that time, etc... I agree that one might be re-signed, but if one is, and I hope it's one at most, I'd hope it would be Green. There's also no saying that Green would be traded and Daley wouldn't. We will need a lot of these kids to pan out, but I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that at least four of Hronek, Cholowski, McIsaac, Barton, Regula, Lindstrom, Kotkansalo, Sulak, Saarijarvi, Hicketts could develop into regular NHL defensemen. The problem is, none project to be high end top pair defenseman. We will need a little luck for any of them to exceed expectations, but I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility either. I'm not too concerned. We still have a couple drafts to nab a potential top pair (number one) defenseman, trades / free agency to improve the defense.

Not sure if serious... None of these guys should be re-signed beyond the 2020-21 season, let alone all three... Green will be 35, and Daley and Ericsson will be 37. DeKeyser will be 31 and more than capable of "leading" the young guys. Maybe bring in another "veteran" in the 28-32 year old range, but all of the aforementioned defenseman should be done in Detroit. Then whom? Hronek, Cholowski, McIsaac, Lindstrom, 2019 draft pick, free agent, trade, etc...

Meh, agree to disagree I guess. I just don't think Daley does anything exceptionally well. He's solid sure, but a bottom pairing defenseman at this point in his career. He could maybe teach the kids a thing or two, but nothing a Kronwall or Green couldn't. I'd trade the older guy that would fetch the bigger return, but that's just my opinion... Daley is not a player we must keep.

Has Blashill finally lost the team?

To be fair, I don't think anyone is suggesting to do this, aside from maybe Jonas... Veterans are important, especially to a rebuilding team, but a rebuilding team should not be close to the oldest team in the league either... Like Dabura mentioned, we don't need all of Nielsen, Vanek, Nyquist, Abdelkader, Helm, Glendening, Kronwall, Ericsson, Green, Daley, DeKeyser, Jensen, Howard, Bernier, etc. to mentor a handful of kids... Shed half of those guys and we'd be on the right track in my opinion. I'd like to see us go into next season minus Vanek, Nyquist, one of Helm or Glendening, Kronwall, one of Ericsson or Daley and maybe Jensen and Howard. Get rid of the other veterans over the next couple seasons, and by that time the now kids will be the veteran leaders, leading the new kids.

Why would you trade Jensen and not Daley? They're pretty much equal offensively at this stage of their careers. I'd give the slight edge to Daley defensively. Jensen is 7 years younger and nearly $2.5M cheaper, and Daley would bring back more in a trade. I'd trade either (both), but considering all variables, if I had to choose one, I'd move Daley, clear up more cap space, and get more pieces back, while not hurting the team too much defensively. We're going to need to clear up the logjam on defense over the next season or two. Kronwall will be done after this season, and at least one of Daley / Ericsson should be traded before the beginning of next season. Jensen can be moved as well, but I'd just assume keep him as a cheap, depth, veteran defenseman.

The only thing Trouba truly wants is to leave Winnipeg and go home to play for his childhood team, the Detroit Red Wings... obviously.

    Rumors Thread

I don't see Dubas giving up assets for a player like Glendening, no matter how much the coach likes him... I think there's a reasonably decent chance that Glendening gets traded this season. I just really don't think that team will be the Leafs.

    Rumors Thread

I'll take that bet. There's no way Babcock will convince Dubas that Glendening is worth what Holland would be looking for in a trade. I think it would have been possible if Hunter took over, but with Dubas in charge, I don't see any chance Glendening gets traded to Toronto.

We've gone over this... Karlsson would be a rental, and not worth a package involving high end assets for a team that is rebuilding. Sure, he might re-sign, but there's also a big gamble you'd be taking that he wouldn't re-sign. Not worth it. I also wasn't aware that we needed a 0.5 points per game forward making $7.25M... I'd be interested in taking on that contract only if with it came future assets. Cholowski has a 99% chance of being a complete bust? Yeah, okay...

Obviously. Dorion isn't an idiot... He's not going to trade Karlsson within Division... He'll likely trade him as far away as possible... Maybe a team like San Jose... Holland, get Wilson on the phone immediately!

2018-2019 Opening Night Roster - Dedicated to BlueAdams!

I agree. If they win the lottery next year (they will likely have the best odds), and Colorado gets Hughes, this will go down as one of the worst trades in NHL history. Dorion had right up until the moment before the pick was made to decide if he wanted to make it or hand it off to Sakic. F***ing moron. Sure, there's a chance that they don't win the lottery next year, but I think they'll have the best odds, and to risk that for... Tkatchuk, is beyond stupid... I said it before, the Sens have been the laughing stock of the league for the past year or so, and they haven't even hit rock bottom yet. I see things getting MUCH worse in the next year. Worst run professional sports team I can think of...

    Rumors Thread

It won't happen, just saying if we're going to draft 1st overall, that's the way I'd want to do it. F*** tanking, especially before the season even starts... After the deadline and we're way out of it, sure. But hey, the Flyers had a 2.4% chance at Patrick and the Canes had a 3.3% chance at Svechnikov...
  21. krsmith17

    Rumors Thread

I don't want the team to "tank" to get Hughes, but I would like for the team to compete every night, barely miss the playoffs, get lucky in the draft lottery, and get Hughes... Also "Errorson" definitely won't be in the lineup two years from now, and there's a strong possibility that he wouldn't be in the lineup a year from now if we did happen to land Hughes.

2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

I'd like to see... Rasmussen Vanek - Larkin - Mantha Green Berruzzi Nyquist - Nielsen - Zadina Hronek

2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

I "flipped your Abby and two kids comment" because you were attempting to downplay the need for shooters (and still are), and make it seem like we have all these unproven net front guys, when you listed just as many unproven shooters... Yes, my list of shooters would be Nyquist, Vanek, Mantha and one of Athanasiou, Zadina or Frk. If Zadina proves to be the sniper he's expected to be, the spot is his. If not, I'd give it to Athanasiou. Frk won't be a regular this season, unless injuries hit, and if / when that happens, I'd give him a look as well. I don't think there's a "desperate need for Mantha to be in that spot", I just think it would be smart to at least try him there. In my opinion, he's our best shooter, and like has been mentioned, our power-play has been awful, so why not experiment with it? I have no problem discussing opinions, but when you constantly try to put words in my mouth or change the topic, it gets a little annoying... Anyway, I'm done with this. I'm hoping with the addition of Rasmussen and Bylsam, Mantha will at least get a look on the right side of the ice.

2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

    1. I'm talking high end, in comparison to the team. I think Mantha is the best winger on the team. 2. Anyone in the NHL can play net front. And anyone in the NHL can score goals playing net front on the power-play. This is in no way a slight against the best net front guys in the league. Of course there are some better than others. Holmstrom was one of the best ever. 3. Stop trying to insinuate that I have this vendetta against Rasmussen, and everything I say is meant to take a dig at him. It's not. When have I ever suggested he might not make the NHL? I've said that I think Rasmussen will be a top six winger, and I think he has the potential to become an elite net front guy.

2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

Well said CRL. Precisely why I'd like to see Mantha given an opportunity as a shooter / playmaker on the power-play. Any player can play net front. It takes high end skill to play on the perimeter and score / set up plays from there. In my opinion, Mantha can do that, while Abdelkader, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen (or anyone) plays net front.
