Yes. Remember though, a lot of trades aren't made official until after the 3pm deadline. Give it until around 4pm, until we break out the pitchforks...
-
Yes but it's usually the pending UFA's that get the highest value. I personally think it's smarter to trade for players with term, but for whatever reason (I assume cap flexibility) NHL GM's would prefer rentals. Let's say (hypothetically) we can get a 3rd for Nyquist at this trade deadline, or we can get a 2nd plus a prospect at next year's deadline. Would you prefer the higher return or the instant gratification? Something tells me you'd prefer to get whatever you can now, not giving much thought into what you could potentially get in the future. We should not be in a rush to trade players, other than Green, who will be traded today. Like others have mentioned, you don't trade Nyquist / Tatar / Howard for peanuts. That would be terrible asset management.

You're missing the point... As long as we miss the playoffs, we have a shot at Dahlin / top three pick. The draft lottery is set up to prevent teams from tanking, yet fans still want their team to tank... Have you looked at the lottery odds? If you haven't, I suggest you do. And understand that there is not a huge difference in odds finishing a spot or two higher or lower in the standings. The odds of the worst team in the league dropping from 1 down to 2, 3 or 4 is much higher than them actually getting the 1st overall pick. As a matter fact, the odds of them getting the 4th overall pick is higher than them getting any of 1, 2 or 3 combined... Here's a scenario for you to consider... We're one point behind a team (let's say the Rangers) in our last game of the season vs the Islanders. We currently sit with the 7th best odds (6.7% Dahlin, 20.9% top 3). If we win that game, we would finish with the 8th best odds (5.8% Dahlin, 18.3% top 3). You want to lose that game to improve your odds right? Well we lose that game, and the Rangers win the lottery and take Dahlin. That could have been us if we had just won that last game, that we wanted to lose so badly... The point is, there are no guarantees. I would have thought the Flyers moving up to the 2nd overall pick with the 13th best odds (2.4%) last year would have put the tank mentality to rest... I guess not...

That's what you got from that? Bertuzzi won't be officially sent down to Grand Rapids until after the Wings season is over. This is just so he is eligible to go on a playoff run with the Griffins. Nothing more... Yup, pretty much this.
-
I know that... So why is everyone already flying off the handle? There's still 24 hours to make trades. Holland WILL make trades. Be patient...
-
I'm so confused... I thought for sure the deadline was tomorrow...
-
... so, don't be alarmed if you see Bertuzzi sent down to GR after the game tonight... Just a paper move.

As much as this should be a buyers market (more sellers than buyers), so far it seems to be favoring the sellers... Get on the phone Kenny! Make some damn trade while prices are inflated...

I think Plekanec is better offensively, but Glendening is better defensively, younger, cheaper and has term.

Man, the Bruins f***ed up royally on this one... Nash is massively overrated. He was great, 5-10 years ago, now he's just a name. They could have had Tatar or Nyquist for half the price they paid for Nash... Nash - 60 - 18 - 10 - 28 (GP - G - A - PTS) - 33 years old - $3.9M (50% retained) - Pending UFA Tatar - 61 - 16 - 11 - 27 - 27 years old - $5.3M - 3 more years Nyquist - 61 - 16 - 13 - 29 - 28 years old - $4.75M - 1 more year Maybe they didn't want the players with term, but they shouldn't have any cap issues next season... The Bruins may have gotten Nash at half price, but they also now have 50% of Matt Beleskey's contract ($1.9M) for another two years... for an AHL player... Boston also gave up Ryan Spooner, who is younger, cheaper and BETTER than Nash... Spooner - 39 - 9 - 16 - 25 - 26 years old - $2.825M - Pending RFA ... AND a 2018 1st round pick, 2019 7th round pick, and a mediocre defense prospect, Lindgren... What the f*** is Sweeney thinking? Holland better be taking notes... Tatar ? Nyquist should easily get a 1st plus at this rate... Of course they won't, but I wouldn't sell them for anything less after seeing this...

Dahlin isn't "slipping away". Why would we get the 10th overall pick? We're currently sitting in 8th (from the bottom), so that would mean you fully expect 2 teams ahead of us in the standings to pick 1,2 or 3 in the draft... You think a team with worse odds than us can win the lottery, but we can't? Pretty pessimistic mind set isn't it? It's not going to take "incredible luck". Literally every year a team jumps ahead of a team with better odds. Whoever finished last place in the standings, there's actually a higher probability that they don't win the draft lottery than they do. They only have an 18% chance to pick first overall. That means there's an 82% chance that they don't. We currently have a 5.8% chance to land Dahlin. No, they're not great odds, but give me those odds in the Power Ball or Mega Millions and I'd like my chances. We also have an 18.3% chance of getting a top 3 pick. Slightly better odds than the worst team in the league has at Dahlin... We dropped back two spots last year. The chance of that happening again are likely slim. I like our chances of moving up this year. Maybe we luck out and get Dahlin, or maybe we get number 2 or 3. Either way, I think we're going to get a very good player in this year's draft. You also have to consider the fact that we're going to (hopefully) sell off some pieces by tomorrow. That could potentially drop us down another couple spots in the standings, which would *ever so slightly* improve our lottery odds. We also have a very difficult schedule down the stretch, which could bode well for us dropping a few extra points. We have NYR, STL, WPG, MIN, BOS, VGK, CBJ, SJS, LAK, ANA, COL, PHI, WSH, TOR, MTL, PIT, BUF, OTT, CBJ, MTL, NYI. Of those 21 games, we have 3 back-to-backs, 7 at home, 14 on the road, and only 5 of them are against teams with no chance of the playoffs (possibly 7, if CBJ and NYI are out by April). I've disagreed with a lot of Holland's moves over the years. Mainly free agent signings and trades, and a couple draft picks along the way, but one thing I do agree with him on, is keeping the winning culture. I'm glad we're not a team that is going full tank mode. I like that we're still remaining somewhat competitive on a nightly basis. I don't want us to tear it all down and trade everyone. I do hope he trades a few players by tomorrow though. When you're in our position, UFA's must go, and if teams are calling on players under contract, you still have to listen to every offer out there... Best case (somewhat likely) scenario, we trade 2-3 players by tomorrow's deadline, fall another spot or two in the standings and win the lottery with a top three (hopefully number one) spot in the draft.

Most of us (myself included) have been thinking there's no market for guys like Ouellet and Booth. But maybe this trade is an indication that maybe, just maybe, we could trade one or both of these guys for a pick... I mean, if a 26 year old Davidson (20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) in 137 games) that was claimed off waivers this season can fetch a 3rd rounder, surely a 24 year old Ouellet (21 points (6 goals, 15 assists) in 134 games) could fetch a similar return...? Maybe we could get a 7th for Booth? Doubtful, but maybe...?
-
Of course. Why wouldn't he? You went from saying Green will get at least a 2018 1st round draft pick AND a top prospect, to he should get at least a 2019 3rd round draft pick... shouldn't he? Why the sudden change? Because of the "injury"? Assuming Green passes his physical, I'm sure he'll still net a nice return.
-
Here's what Khan had to say about it... "Mike Green could end up missing the final six games before the trade deadline due to injury. Maybe it won't damage his trade value, but it certainly doesn't help. It is not considered serious. Green has participated in two full practices since then, including Friday. But it could give pause to potential suitors, including the Lightning."
-
Green will miss his 5th straight game tonight. This worries me. We all hope it's precautionary, but what if it's not? I heard it was a neck injury? Any word on the severity?

In what decade this century will the Red Wings see their next cup?

I voted 2020's. I'm not sure what year, but I'll say before 2024. I'll give it a solid 5 years to build this team back up again into a legit contender. -
Dorion is made out to be the idiot, but he's only been the GM these past couple years, and as you mention, trading away very good players has been a common theme for many years in Ottawa. That common theme is Eugene Melnyk, who has been the owner for the past 15 years. I don't understand purchasing a sports team, if you're not willing to spend the money to build a contender. It makes no sense. I've said it before, but Melnyk is probably the worst owner in all of professional sports. From the way he runs the team, to the dumbass comments he makes to the media about his team / players. Guy's a f***ing moron.

No, but I would trade him for Leivo. Just click on the drop down arrow of the tweet, and then click "Copy link to Tweet". Then just copy and paste it in here.
-
Center and wingers hold completely different value as well. I do think we could get a decent return for Nyquist / Tatar, but it wouldn't be anything close to the return for Brassard. My guess would be a 2nd round pick and a mid tier prospect...
-
Ottawa receives a 1st round pick, Ian Cole and goalie prospect Gustavsson...
-
Where did I get defensive? I said I shouldn't have included Lidstrom... That's it. Why did you say he is better than Potvin though? I never said or implied that he wasn't. That's what's confusing about this whole thing...
-
The Leafs traded a 2nd and a prospect to Tampa for a 4th line center (Boyle) at last year's deadline. Holland would be an idiot not to ask for a 2nd for Glendening.

Undrafted players rarely ever play in the Olympics. Dahlin was the youngest player in the tournament at just 17 years old. Gronborg is an idiot for not playing him more than he did. He's been playing against men for the past couple years, and putting up spectacular numbers in a top 3 league in the world. No it's not the NHL, but he's definitely ready to step in and be an affective player for whatever team is lucky enough to land him. Paul Woods is an idiot for suggesting he may not be ready or overhyped or whatever he's saying...
