For Green? I agree. We should be able to get a 1st or a 2nd plus a high end prospect at the bare minimum.
-
If we're only getting one piece (a pick or a prospect), which is very likely, I'd prefer the high end prospect over the draft pick any day. I'd take any of Foote, Howden or Raddysh straight up for Green. Tampa are loaded with high end prospects, so they may be willing to give up a little of their future for a chance to win now. I'm thinking if any team would be willing to overpay for Green, it could be Tampa. *fingers crossed*. I still say there's zero chance we get Foote plus, let alone Foote plus a first though. McKenzie also mentioned that Nashville could be in on one of Nyquist or Tatar. He said that Poile will likely be looking to add depth on the wing, and may prefer a player with term (not a pending UFA), and won't likely be willing to pay the high price tag of a Pacioretty, Nash or Kane. He said Detroit could get a 2nd and a prospect for one of them. I doubt we'd get that much, but if we could, I'd do it for sure.

Lol yeah and Bertuzzi is a very "intriguing piece" to acquire Doughty. "F***ing idiot"...

Without thinking twice once.

You're never going to get over this shtick are you? Brendan sucks, always has sucked. I bet he clears.

I doubt a single person in the organization or a single fan "wants" to trade Athanasiou (I certainly don't), but you have to give to get. What is our biggest weakness? Top two defensemen. What is our biggest strength? Middle six wingers. Who are our best trading chips? Mantha and Athanasiou. I'd personally rather keep Mantha over AA, but that's just me. Again, Faulk probably wouldn't be my first choice, but he would be a great add for a team that lacks high end offensive defensemen (outside of Green). If we could trade a Nyquist or Tatar for a similar player, or a Foote or Fabbro, I'd be ecstatic, but unfortunately I think it would take more than that... Faulk is also a game changer. He has the exact same points per game as Athanasiou from the back end. Sure, Athanasiou's will likely increase over the next couple years, but probably not significantly. Athanasiou isn't "great" offensively and defensively. I'd say he's good offensively and mediocre defensively. Again, he'll likely improve in moth categories, but he's not there yet. Haha you actually think Athanasiou could get us Erik Karlsson? Yeah, maybe with our 1st round (top 5) pick in this year's draft...
-
Faulk is the definition of a game changer from the back end. He's constantly making plays in the offensive zone. Like any offensive defenseman, that can sometimes hurt the team in other ways. I'll admit that I hadn't realized he has regressed point wise, so that's a bit of a concern. But at just 25 years old, there's still room for growth. Maybe a change of scenery gets him back on track. I still make the trade.
-
Do you think Faulk is slow? He's not as fast as Athanasiou, but he's a great skater. He puts up similar points as AA from the back end. A Faulk type player is exactly what this team should be looking for. I'd still prefer to go after a Foote or Fabbro because I don't think they'd cost as much. But again, if we could get him for Athanasiou straight up, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
-
Green and Tatar for Foote and Howden. Game's easy.
-
Straight up? I wouldn't think twice.
-
Yeah, I think anyone trading for him (or Karlsson) would have to be pretty damn sure he would re-sign an extension immediately after the trade. I wouldn't be too confident he would re-sign here unless things really turn around over the next year and a half... Even if we knew 100% he would sign here long term, I still don't think I'd give up that sort of package though. Go after these guys in free agency (if they make it there), don't trade the farm for them.
-
I'd say our 2018 1st round pick and one of Larkin / Mantha would be the starting point. I definitely wouldn't do that, and I think it would cost even more than that...
-
I don't think they "want" to trade him, but with only one year remaining on his contract, I'd be surprised if he isn't moved within the next year. Being an internal cap team, I doubt they'd have the money to re-sign him, unless he takes a significant discount. And why would he? To be in Arizona where they probably won't make the playoffs any time soon, let alone win a Cup? If he is traded, it's going to cost a TON to get him. A hell of a lot more than I'd be willing to pay...

I don't know much about The Fourth Period. Are they reputable? It's kind of odd that the team that has been rumored to have the most interest in Green by every other source isn't even on their list. Why the f*** would we have any interest in Tanner Pearson? Ekman-Larsson is a pipe dream. I'd love to have him, but I doubt I'd be comfortable with the crazy package we'd have to give up to get him. I've said it before, I'd much rather draft and develop and defenseman or trade for an unestablished (18-20 year old) defenseman with the potential to be elite, rather than give up the farm for an already elite defenseman.

Tyler Bertuzzi has been that guy at every level before he made the Wings. Just sayin'...

Pettersson is unreal, but wasn't available at 9. You know who was available at 9? #22 ranked Gabe Vilardi... Taylor Raddysh, another player I really wanted to draft the previous year, is ranked #45. Dante Fabbro is also ranked #37. -
Cal Foote. Or Moose Jaw, Sask. for Brett Howden.
-
Yeah, there's no one in Tampa that I'd want, that Yzerman would be willing to give up in a trade for Green. Holland is probably looking at Callahan or Coburn...
-
Let me know when you hear of Red Wings scouts in Kelowna, BC...
-
I'd be ecstatic if we were able to pull off anything close to a Foote or Fabbro. Unfortunately, I just don't see it happening. Even if everything lines up for us, and Green goes to Tampa and Nyquist / Tatar goes to Nashville, I think the return will be picks or mid level prospects...

If only you were the Red Wings GM...

No way Ken Holland makes half of those moves, although I'm sure you know that. Looking at each one individually, I'd hope (think) we'd get more than a 4th round pick in the Howard trade, especially if we retain 25%. I don't think we get close to that for Green. I'd love to get Foote, but I'd be shocked if Yzerman trades him, and on the slim chance he does, no way he'd give up a 1st along with it. I think the Nyquist trade is probably the most realistic, although it's the one I wouldn't really want to do. I doubt Tatar gets traded, but the value is about right. I can see Ouellet to Montreal for a 5th as a legit impossibility. I'd be okay with it. Good news, that pick from the Rangers in the Smith trade is actually Ottawa's 2nd, so it should be around the 33-36 range, rather than 45. -
Man, if we could somehow get a Foote or Fabbro type prospect, I wouldn't even care for the extra pick.
-
Fixed it. A lot of late first round draft picks don't even make the NHL.

That's a tough one... I want all the kids playing and playing well. That includes Mrazek. If Larkin, Mantha or Athanasiou went on a tear and started single handedly winning us games, I wouldn't suggest benching them for a chance at a better pick... I want Mrazek to continue getting the bulk of the starts, and I want him to keep up the strong play, but if we find ways to lose a few of these games, I'm not going to be too upset... Ideally for me, the kids continue to play well, put up points, but we fall short in half the games remaining. I really want a chance at a top 3 pick this year...
