I'm sure you know all about Josh Anderson don't you Buppy?... I keep saying bottom 6 because that's exactly what he is at this point in his young career. What's so confusing about that? I never once said anything about his potential. He could become a solid top 6 guy, but he's not there yet. You're counting 12 because you're not banking on anyone from Grand Rapids making a push. I'd rather hold onto our assets and call on Bertuzzi or sign a cheap UFA to play in that role. Like I said several times, if it was a one for one swap for a bottom 6 player, I'd probably do it. But I'm not giving up the assets it would likely take, to add to our one position of strength (wingers). It makes no sense. Hypothetically, what would you trade to get Anderson in Detroit? As I already said, I'd trade a number of guys in our bottom 6, I'd also make the trade Dickie proposed. However, I think it's going to cost much more than that. What would you give up for him in a realistic trade scenario? Yeah, let's send Larkin down too while we're at it... You keep coming up with these big, elaborate trade / draft scenarios, and good on ya for having a wild imagination, but you know none of it is ever going to happen...

I'd do that. No way he'd come that cheap though.
-
Lots going on with Vegas. I also hear they might net a 1st RD pick from a team for taking on a bad contract... fun few weeks ahead. - LeBrun

Maybe it wouldn't cost quite that much, but Dallas aren't just going to give us the pick. Nill won't trade it unless it's an offer he can't refuse. I do think it starts with one of Larkin or Mantha and our 9th overall pick, and I still wouldn't do that...
-
The Blackhawks and Golden Knights could be closing on a deal for Trevor van Riemsdyk & Marcus Kruger.
-
It would cost waaaay too much in my opinion. That trade would start with Larkin and our 9th overall pick, and we'd likely have to add a prospect like Saarijarvi as well. Not close to being worth it in my opinion. No need to move up in such a weak draft to a position where we would take who? Vilardi or Heiskanen? To hope that they pan out better than who we could potentially get at 9... Liljegren, Glass, Tippett, etc. I highly doubt Holland would do this, but please no. If we're moving this pick, it needs to be to move down, not up...

Where did I say anything about him never becoming anything more than a bottom 6 winger, and having no potential? All I'm saying is that we don't have room for any more bottom 6 wingers. So like I said, if we're moving out one or two, sure I'd be interested, otherwise, there's no room, so no thanks. I'd rather keep the assets and play Nosek than give up the assets for a player that may or may not develop into a top 6 winger.

I'll admit that I don't know at ton about Anderson, but when I had a quick look at his numbers,I didn't see anything that stood out as a reason to target him. Aside from him having size, and being a right handed shot, there's nothing else intriguing to me. I'm not sure if he'll ever become anything more than a bottom 6 winger, but at this point, he isn't, and another bottom 6 winger is the last thing this team needs. Would I trade one of our current bottom 6 wingers in a straight up one for one deal? Maybe. Otherwise, no thanks.

2017 Stanley Cup Finals: Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
krsmith17 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Just to be clear, I'm not saying I believe in any conspiracy to help the Penguins win hockey games. I just think that disallowed goal last game was as bad as it gets. It may have been the right call within the rulebook, but it's that rule that needs to be changed in my opinion. Forsberg's skate being 1/4 inch off the ice had absolutely no bearing on Subban scoring that goal. You can't let something so irrelevant change the outcome of a game in the Stanley Cup Finals. -
I say f*** it, next season we should run a 4th line / 3rd pairing of... Bertuzzi - Tangradi - Smith McKee - McIlrath Now those guys would surely make everyone play a few inches taller ...

The NHL expansion draft is on June 21st. Vegas' free agent window opens 72 hours prior at 10am on June 18th, at which time the NHL will release all 30 teams' protected lists. I expect we will see some trades in the coming weeks leading up to the 18th. Hopefully Holland gets involved and makes some big moves to shed some bad contracts and free up some cap space.

2017 Stanley Cup Finals: Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Exactly this. Unless the "missed call" directly effects the play, such as the Duchene goal a few years ago, or the bulls*** goal scored by Anaheim against Edmonton when Kesler literally grabbed Talbot's pad while Rakell put the puck through the fivehole, which would have been covered had there not been goaltender interference... That was a play that was challenged and the call on the ice stood up, but this play was somehow overturned? What a joke... We have the technology to eliminate some of the human error in the game. I'm okay with that, but when you're talking about a fraction of an inch in the fastest game in the world, I think it should be used more so for the obvious plays. I'd like for coaches to be able to challenge penalties and phantom calls rather than the bulls*** we witnessed last night. -
2017 Stanley Cup Finals: Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

I disagree. I think you can limit it to obvious offside. The rule was put in place initially to prevent any more goals like the Matt Duchene goal a few years ago. I don't think every play should be taken under a microscope to determine whether or not the skate was a fraction of an inch off the ice, still on the right side of the blueline mind you... Why is it used for offside calls and not other rules? A guy can be clipped by a high stick by his own player and a penalty called on the opposing team. That can't be reviewed / overturned but that bulls*** that happened to Subban tonight can? It's a joke. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and I don't believe the league or refs want Pittsburgh to win, but there's no question in mind that call tonight, changed the outcome of the game and potentially the series and 2017 Stanley Cup winner... -

What a f***ing joke. The challenge rule was implemented to improve the game. It's had the opposite effect in m opinion. It should be used for obvious offside / goaltender interference, not when it's a fraction of an inch. Watch the game 7, double OT goal of this series be challenged and overturned... -
We don't need any more bottom 6 wingers. I doubt we trade Sheahan, but even if we lose him in the expansion draft, we shouldn't be relinquishing assets to add a bottom 6 guy. Either fill that spot internally (Bertuzzi / Nosek / Frk / Callahan) or sign a free agent. No thanks on Anderson.

McPhee has already mentioned that he is willing to take on some bigger contracts for assets in return. Being an expansion team with literally nothing in the pipeline, they will be looking to add as much as they can in the way of picks / prospects. I'm really hoping Holland takes full advantage of this and offers up a 3rd and / or a mid-tier prospect to get them to take a bad contract off our hands. If we wanted Vegas to take Howard, I really don't think it would take a whole lot of convincing to do so. Ericsson would maybe be a little more difficult, but could likely be done as well. This should prove to be a very interesting offseason, with the expansion draft, having our first top 10 pick in over a quarter century, and the playoff streak no longer a thing. It's time for Holland to prove he's still got it, and pull of some big moves to get this franchise turned around and headed in the right direction again. If he can somehow rid this team of at least one bad contract, land a top pairing defenseman via trade (without mortgaging the future), and make some smart picks at the draft, landing at least one stud center / defenseman, I think everyone would consider this offseason a major success. It is possible to do all of this in one offseason, and if he somehow pulls it off, I think he can get the franchise on the fast track back in contention.

Really finding that hard to believe...
-
I agree, if they were same price (term / cap hit), but I'd much rather re-sign Green to another similar contract (2-3 years at $5.5-6M) then sign Shattenkirk to the contract I expect him to sign (6-7 years at $6.5M+).
-
I was one of the people that said he won't ever make the Wings and we shouldn't offer him a contract after this season. I have to say though, I've been mildly impressed with his play in these playoffs. The thing that has surprised me the most is his skating. Not because it's great, but because it's not terrible. When I read his scouting report on eliteprospects, "A large and physical defenseman. Not a very good skater. Has a good shot from the blue line. Needs to improve his skating." I naturally thought he would be an awful skater. He's not noticeably slow out there, and he seems to position himself well. He is a wrecking ball, hits everything that moves, and won't back down from anyone. Although I'm not a huge fan of the big, slow defensemen, I think it's okay for every team to have one as a 6/7. So if we can somehow move Ericsson, I'd take McIlrath in a similar role at $1.5M over E at $4.25M. I still don't think he's deserving of a spot over a number of other guys out of the gate next season, but I'd offer him another two-way contract with him continuing to play big minutes in Grand Rapids. Worst case scenario, he's a solid warrior to help the kids in GR, and maybe he becomes another Lashoff type player. And Lash has been great down there.
-
Svechnikov! Haha McIlrath is a wrecking ball.
-
Frk on the breakaway, 4-1!
-
Defensive defensemen are a dying breed, and I just prefer more offensive minded defensemen. I value speed and skilled guys over big and slow guy on the blueline.
-
Nosek! 3-1! Griffs putting on a clinic.
-
I'm with you man. Been to Detroit half a dozen times over the past 10 years, but have never been to a Griffins game. Definitely making the trip next year when I go to the LCA.
-
Tangradi with a beauty. 2-1 Griffs!
