Can We Please Stop Putting Teams In Unsustainable Cities?

There is nothing I can add to what kickazz already said. When he says that it just makes me laugh. I think of Alec Baldwin doing Trump on SNL. -
Can We Please Stop Putting Teams In Unsustainable Cities?

Agreed. It would be like if an NHL team came to Windsor (ha!) I wouldn't give a s*** about them as there is no way I would stop being a Wings fan. -
Can We Please Stop Putting Teams In Unsustainable Cities?

Your initial quote was " Wrong. GR is bigger than Buffalo, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and QC." you didn't say anything about "surrounding area". If we are going to go there, cool. Here are the numbers according to Google for each of those cities and the "surrounding area". Grand Rapids - 1,005,648 Buffalo - 1,135,509 Edmonton -1,159,869 Calgary - 1,214,839 Winnipeg - 782,000 Ottawa - 1,236,324 QC - 806,400 This really doesn't matter, but my point is that you are just throwing out statements regardless of whether they are true or not to make a point. When you start out a statement to someone with "Wrong", you have to expect to be called out if you are not right. It started as all 6 of these cities were smaller then GR period, then when that was proved wrong it became the "metropolitan areas", now that is proved wrong as the GR area is only larger then 2 of the 6 you stated. Either way, I'm done with this debate. I would be shocked if Grand Rapids ever got an NHL team. -
Unfortunately you're right. This is why I want Holland to make a trade for a guy like Trouba or Hamilton. its easier to find a Mantha then a Trouba.

What are you talking about? Are you talking square miles or something? its not even close. Here are population of cities you mentioned as of 2011-2013 because I didn't feel like doing research beyond Google: Grand Rapids - 192,294 Buffalo - 258,959 Edmonton - 812,200 Calgary - 1.097 million Winnipeg - 663,615 Ottawa - 883,391 QC - 516,625 The NHL is not going to Grand Rapids because a couple rich families live there. -
I wish I agreed with this, but #1 d-men are the hardest position to draft for. The majority of stud d-men are lower end pics. If you get a lottery pick or even a top 5 pick you are better off taking a forward unless its a sure thing which really doesn't happen often.

Could not say it any better myself kickazz. Lefty, while I would not punch him lol, I would also be pissed if he left either of those 2 exposed.

Very good point. I think Z's contract is worth 6mil cap-hit wise, but actual dollar amount becomes 1mil per year. If you are asking me who I would rather keep, Sheahan or Zetterberg, I choose Zetterberg every time. A player like him is crucial to the development of our young forwards. Now someone asked "what if a player like Jurco breaks out" well IF that happens I would reevaluate my choice at that time.
-
I don't think so. LV is is going to be filled with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd line players, they will have zero top prospects other then likely 1 from the draft, and a few kids, they will desperately need leadership. Bringing in a guy like Zetterberg when the alternatives are Sheahan, Glendening, Marchenko etc. isnt the worst pick in the world. If we were dumb enough to leave potential stars like AA or Mantha exposed, sure its a dumb pick. But Z is not a bad option given the options.

Tatar is injured and should not be playing. Sheahan is miscast and should be permanently on the 4th line. DD is also miscast and should be playing on the 2nd pairing, but since we dont have a top D-man, we have no choice. You can't blame our loses on these 3.
-
Zetterberg is a tricky one. If Vegas claimed Zetterberg, it would be a complete embarrassment for the organization to lose their captain. Kronwall on the other hand should not be protected, no team is going to claim him.

My comment was 100% tongue in cheek. I don't like the name as well and think it should have been The Gordie Howe Arena. I would have even been ok with the Mike Ilitch Arena. As time passed from the announcement, I like it less and less. The only thing I will say positive, is I like LCA better then some random corporate name such as "The AT&T center". At least the Wings and LC have that connection with Ilitch. Still dont like it though.

Trading has definitely not been one of his strong suits, part of that is less trading in general in the NHL, the other part is his reluctance to make a deal. The only thing I would argue is that the Stuart trade was a meaningful deal, and at the time the Bertuzzi deal was as well (first stint).

I think people will only accept a small sample like that if it fits the narrative they believe to be true anyways. If we were sitting in 2nd place right now and someone said "we are a top team, 20 games proves it", the same posters that accept that sample size now when it fits their narrative, would be saying that 25 games is not enough. I will remain consistent with what I said when we won 6 in a row, its too early to be sure of anything. IMO we are an average team, better then we are now, worse then we were after the first 8 games. Please explain this? These two are nothing alike in their style. The only thing they do that is similar is they both sometimes make bonehead decisions.

That's what I thought. Maybe they put him on a line with AA and a guy like Abby.
-
It seems like it would be awfully hard to turn a bridge into a basketball venue.
-
I'm not going to sit here and say thing will turn around because I don't know if they will. But at the same time, less then 20 games into an 82 game season is way to early to be definitive about anything. At this time last year the Pens were not even in the playoffs. Now do we have elite talent and are we going to win the cup? Of course not, but my point is its early. I wonder if Holland fires Blashill though? That streak is important to ownership, and if they feel the season is slipping away that is the one BIG move they have left outside of a huge trade. I think a coaching change would make more immediate impact though then a trade. Who know's....we'll see.
-
I'm tempted, but you're right its not worth it. I do have a question though, last year when Jurco was on fire in the AHL, who was he playing with? Was it AA?
-
That is true, but I still dont like it. They are all bad lol.
-
Further proof that elite players do not reach Unrestricted Free Agency.
-
Who knows what they will pick, this is not the NFL where you are slotted in based on where you finish. I just did a mock draft and we got 6th, then I did it again and we got 2nd, then a third time and we got 1st. http://nhllotterysimulator.com/

Number 32 is coming. Of the three names being batted around, I was hoping for Desert Knight, but whatever I don't care that much. Its not worse then "wild" or "blue jackets".
-
Come on....we're talking Nestresil, Frk, and Pulkkinen. Two of which were waived by the teams that picked them up. They had zero value. Mantha is in a completely different class and is a completely different situation. This is what I mean when I talk about hyperbole.
-
I thought the narrative around here was that Holland is in love with his kids and refuses to get rid of them? It would shock me and make me incredibly angry if Holland didnt protect Mantha. I just can't see it.

After the Florida/TB games I thought overall we looked pretty good in those 8. We were first in the league in scoring and our goalies were playing great. I was at the Ottawa game and thought we looked awesome. To be fair though, I missed the NYR game.
