Well not for sure, it could be a negotiation tactic on Trouba's side. Tatar did the same thing before signing a long term deal with us a couple years ago. -

Maybe you don't, but that doesnt mean the tone around here wouldn't be different if it was Holland. To me the moves are meh, I dont love them or hate them. Oh Lefty, we all love you, but you can't tell me that if Holland made these moves that you wouldn't be loosing your s*** right now lol -

Just read this, and wanted to post. This is an example of why I think there is a perception out there that AA has more value: https://www.detroitnews.com/picture-gallery/sports/nhl/red-wings/2019/04/30/detroit-news-ranks-top-50-detroit-red-wings-organization-value/3616072002/ They have AA ranked as the number 2 most valuable Red Wing. Just to be clear, I agree with you on your assessment of the two (he and Mantha), I'm just arguing what I think the perception out there is. For whatever reason, Mantha doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves, I think its because he's not as flashy as AA. -

He was, but the following was written by Kahn in an Mlive article, and this signing IMO indicates its true. https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2019/06/red-wings-goalie-of-the-future-filip-larsson-prepares-for-grand-rapids.html -

Why would we buy them out, add a year to the cap, and receive nothing back, when we can trade them for a pick at the TDL? -

Sounds like Rybar is not re-signing. -

I've read reports that there were some behind the scenes issues in Pittsburgh, specifically regarding Kessel, Malkin and Sullivan. Sounds like both sides wanted to move on, because from a "hockey" perspective, this seems like a bad move. Here is an article from The Score. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1791799 The Phil Kessel saga is seemingly never-ending. The Pittsburgh Penguins remain interested in trading Kessel, preferably before free agency begins on July 1, sources told The Athletic's Rob Rossi. This comes less than a month after general manager Jim Rutherford said it was unlikely he would deal the winger. Kessel is signed for three more years with a $6.8-million cap hit and can veto a trade to all but eight teams of his choosing. Sources told Rossi they believe Kessel's eight-team list includes five which the Penguins would never trade him to, along with three others that can't afford his cap hit. He reportedly used his no-trade clause to nix a move to the Minnesota Wild in May for a return that would've been headlined by Jason Zucker. Rossi adds that Pittsburgh's desire to trade Kessel stems from a rift with head coach Mike Sullivan. The 31-year-old wants to play on the club's second line, centered by Evgeni Malkin, but Sullivan occasionally drops Kessel down to the third line when the two aren't clicking. Separating Kessel and Malkin worked marvelously during Pittsburgh's Cup run in 2016 when the winger anchored the "HBK" line with Nick Bonino and Carl Hagelin. Some also think Kessel is partially at fault for Malkin's declining defensive play over the past two seasons. Sources told Rossi that they believe Malkin has picked up some of Kessel's bad defensive habits, including "inconsistent backchecking, inattentiveness regarding own-zone responsibilities, and poor puck management in the neutral zone." Off the ice, Sullivan and other staff believe Kessel would be a better player - and set an example for younger Penguins players - if he showed a "greater commitment to fitness," sources told Rossi. Furthermore, Kessel's status as a regular at a local casino was apparently not viewed as an issue until younger players, including Jake Guentzel, started joining him there on days before games, which other players were told was frowned upon. Kessel hasn't missed a game since the 2009-10 season. He tallied 45 points in 49 playoff games during Pittsburgh's two Stanley Cup triumphs and has enjoyed the best two-year stretch of his career during the last couple of seasons, during which he's registered 174 points in 164 games. -
There are always outliers, but typically a fast player can accelerate quickly as well.
-
You're not wrong, but its very rare to find a player who has great acceleration but is slow. The two traits are usually hand in hand.

Ya, they're in trouble. Likely going to have to move Zaitsev for nothing. Marner scoring 94 points last year was probably the worst thing that could have happened to the Leafs. -
2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Good question lol. I guess I read more about interest in AA then I do about Mantha. With that said, maybe the reason for that is that the Wings have been rumored to trade AA since the stalemate a few years back. I could be wrong about this, though I hope I'm not because if we trade one, I'd rather it be AA so I hope he would bring us a larger return. -

For the record, I dont disagree with you. I also am more of a fan of Mantha then AA, and if we could hang on to one I would choose Mantha. Where I do disagree is I get the feeling that other GM's seem to look at AA in a higher regard then Mantha because of the year he had last year. Ya, because he's a top 6 forward who played on the 3rd line. Kids good. I'm fine to keep him, but if we can get a potential top pairing guy for him, I make the move. -

You're not seeing the point, trading AA is not about "trading trash", its about utilizing a valuable asset in order to acquire asset that to the Wings is more valuable. If Bertuzzi or Mantha were able to bring in a haul or a top 2 D-man, I'd trade them as well, but they dont have the value of AA. If anything, this is giving credit to AA. You're making its sound as if trading AA and "not trading trash" are mutually exclusive. Yzerman is capable of making multiple moves. OF COURSE if a team offered us a top D-man for Abby or Helm, or Nielsen etc. everyone would jump on that, but those guys are not bringing in a damn thing. If we want to trade for building blocks to strengthen our team, we may have to trade guys like Mantha, AA etc. It does not mean they are bad, it does not mean I even want to trade them, but a good GM is always looking to improve their team, and if a guy like AA can do that via trade, it is what it is. -

Are you taking into consideration the relief from Horton's contract? I think its closer to 12. -

kliq replied to Dabura's topic in General
For whatever reason, people interpret things like this as "AA sucks, we need to trade him", 'why are you hating on AA". I agree that we should be willing to trade AA if the right move comes along, but I wouldn't be trying to move him (not that you said we should). On a re-building team, any player should be up for grabs if it can make you better. The only player I would not move unless someone blew our socks off is Larkin, and that's because he is the future captain and leader of this team. With that said, I'm also a Raptors fan, and was mad last summer when the raps flipped DeRozan for Leonard, we all know how that turned out. -

He's a huge red flag for me. His stats were very similar to Griess last season, and when two middle of the road goalies all of a sudden have spectacular seasons, makes me thing they are more so products of the system (same thing in Carolina with Mrazek and Mac). Nothing against Lehner, but if he wants big money, I think the team that signs him will regret it. -
That kid is 6’7......if he can put it together, that would be an awesome get!

In addition to filling a need with a great player, word is that they brought in Subban to show Hall they are committed to winning. Hall is a UFA after this season. -
lol no I did not! I thought it was just rumored for July 1st, I didnt realize that Philly traded for his rights. Oh those poor Philly fans lol.

Every time a lockout happens, media fans, execs etc. point at certain stupid contracts that messed with the market. Sometimes GM's are fooled and players regress or suffer an injury. Other times, EVERYONE saw a bad contract coming yet a a stupid/desperate GM does it anyways. If Kevin Hayes gets paid 7mil plus, this is one of those times.

Ill say the exact same thing about this pick as I did about Ras back in 2017. While it may not look like the best choice right now, Ill wait to see what happens before I judge. I do trust Yzerman, and if he and his team saw something in the kid, I'm sure there is something there. I do wish he traded down though.
