    Pistons could play in LCA

How is putting hardwood down for basketball going to effect the ice any more then putting something down for concerts, wrestling events etc.?

I wonder if Trouba begins to negotiate with teams over sea's? Is he allowed to negotiate with the KHL? Then Winnipeg could lose him for nothing which is just bad business.

    Pistons could play in LCA

That's what I used to do, but this is faster for me and the price is the same. I dont have to worry about getting to the Windsor Bus station at any particular time which can be tough for me with work. The tunnel bus is $10 each (there are two of us) so $20 total, or I pay $5 for toll each way and $10 for parking, also $20. I pretty much park 2min away from where the tunnel bus picks you up in Detroit and from the parking lot to Windsor its like 10min and I dont have to worry about waiting for the bus. I walk out of the Joe and get to Windsor in 20min.

    Pistons could play in LCA

I am very nervous of this as I have my routine down. I drive from Windsor to Detroit via the tunnel, I park at the parking garage one block away from Cobo for $10 which is NEVER packed unless the autoshow is going on. When I leave I am back to Windsor in about 20 min! I feel that its going to be a nightmare parking/driving to LCA.

I do agree with this bold part. Winnipeg REALLY seems to be pushing the narrative that they don't care and will wait this out, but I am not so sure the narrative they are telling through the media, and the reality of the situation are the same. Even the Winnipeg media is pushing this point almost too hard, I think as a city they are sick of players not wanting to play there, and this is them trying to create the perception that they are taking a stand.

lol, of course you would say this. You know that we rank #1 in the NHL in Goals For and 17th in goals against. But yep, it's all goaltending. http://www.espn.com/nhl/statistics/team/_/stat/scoring/sort/goalsAgainst Watch the games Dickie.

Capfriendly.com starts it's own expansion tool!

Abby, I think it all depends on how this year goes. His cap hit is not bad, its just the term. I see your point with him though. I could easily see Helm being taken, in fact if left unprotected I would say he becomes the favourite. I dont feel like getting into a Helm debate again, but it was widely reported that many teams were looking to sign Helm and despite the vocal minority here on LGW.com he is a very good player. Don't forget, Vegas will struggle to get to the cap floor. In a dream scenario though, they take E!

Looks good now! I think I would protect: F- Nielson (no choice), Nyquist, Abby, Helm Tatar, Mantha, AA D - DD, and 2 of Sproul/Marchenko/XO (depending on how this season goes) G - Mrazek I would ask Zetterberg to come out publicly before the expansion draft and say he wouldn't play for anyone other then the Wings to avoid team embarrassment. I know if Zetterberg was traded and then retired there is some sort of re-capture penalty. Does that apply if he is picked in the expansion draft? Not sure if this was specified in the CBA as it is a unique unprecedented situation as there has never been an expansion draft in the cap era. Either way, based on my picks I am guessing Las Vegas takes either Howard, Sheahan, or one of those 3 D.

    10/25 GDT - at Red Wings 4, Hurricanes 2

Good job boys! It's nice to see them play this well. Sure its only 7 games, but its a step in the right direction. Now when Abby comes back, lets put him in place of Sheahan, and then put Sheahan on the 4th instead of Miller or Ott.

    Howard

Oh I 100% agree with you. I was just saying from a comedic standpoint how some fans would lose their s*** lol. I can just see it lol: "KEN HOLLAND IS SUCH A ******* IDIOT!!! HE HAD A STANLEY CUP WINNING GOALIE AND LET HIM GO FOR NOTHING!!!!"

Frk claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes

If you are on an NHL roster, then you are an NHL player. What you mean to say is they are not NHL caliber players. I get why some fans are not happy with Holland, but losing guys that are borderline NHL players really shouldn't be one of them. If one of these guys end up being top end talents, go ahead and get upset, but as of right now the majority of them had/have no trade value. As far as the Legwand trades goes, I think any GM given an opportunity to trade a lower tier prospect for a player that could mean the difference between making the playoffs or not making them would do. If you remember, that year Andersson was our fricken first line center lol.

Frk claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes

I think as far as "playing" the team can do whatever they want, I'm pretty sure they have the right to make the guy a healthy scratch. As far as sending them down to the minors, I believe they would have to pass through waivers again. Though I would need a fact check to confirm that. That would annoy me if a team like Detroit lost someone because they had to pass the player through waivers in an attempt to send them down to Grand Rapids, but then Carolina could pick them up and send them down to their farm team and not have to do the same.

Completely agree. Anyone that attributes something like that to JUST luck has never taken a stats class before, or doesnt understand statistics. When you are looking at something over the long term, probability will always prevail. If you have a team that is doing a lot of things better in terms of scouting, that will lead to a higher probability of finding gems in the draft, and over a long term period of time, drafting more guys like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom etc. in later rounds. Now if you look at a player like Datsyuk, and just specifically isolate that one particular pick, sure it can appear like luck as one would think "f the Wings knew he was going to be THAT good, they would have taken him first round", but you cant look at it that way. You have to look at it in the sense, the Wings scout foreign talent better then other teams (or at least they did), and over a long period of time acquired better talent with lesser picks. in comparison to other teams. Not to mention, there is the whole argument of the Wings system developing these players, but that's an entirely different layer to this which I dont feel like getting in to. After two games I don't think it does anything. If come the trade deadline, Howard is leading the league in GAA and Save %, I think a team definitely takes a chance on him if they can make it work cap wise. If a team believes that Howard is a top tier goalie, signing him to a 2 year/10mil contract which at that time Howard essentially becomes, is definitely worth it. We are a long way away from that though. I wonder how pissed Wings fans would be if say Crawford tears his ACL come March, and Chicago trades for Howard and wins a cup with him. That would sting lol.

As of yesterday, both Frk and Nestrasil were healthy scratches for Carolina: http://www.espn.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400884466 For Minny, Pulkkinen played, but logged 8min 32sec......dead last on the team in ice time. http://www.espn.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400884465

    Howard

The funny thing about this statement is that the position we lack in the most is defense, and most top tier d-men are not even taken at the top of the draft. Did our 2008 team (which one could argue was built through the draft) even have a top pick on the roster? Or by "Top End Talent" do you mean guys that end up being top end talent, therefore implying everyone on our roster is not top end talent?

I am so happy he is finally getting a chance to play. I think he is a guy we need to play in order to progress his development, because of all the kids on D I believe he has the highest ceiling. Do you really want to waste a protection on a guy with 1 year left? I would rather protect a guy like Spoul or XO. ok, sure.

    Jacob Trouba watch

You can protect the following: a) Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender b) Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender So you can technically protect 4 D, but you if you do, you go from being able to protect 10 skaters to 8 skaters.

The one problem with your plan is that we can only protect 3 D, so if you have DD, Fowler, Shattenkirk, and Trouba I can pretty much guarantee that the one you dont protect will be in Vegas next year.

    The MANtha watch.....

Its so hard to asses if scoring from the AHL will translate over to the NHL. The best example of this I can come up with is Pulkkinen. Jurco is another, last year when he was sent down he absolutely tore up the AHL, but when he came back he did nothing (though you can argue he wasn't given the opportunity). My point is, AHL success is great, and is nothing but a good sign, but I dont think that a guy scoring in the AHL automatically means he will be a stud in the NHL, or that he is ready for the NHL full time. I hope he's ready, and I would love to see him up, but I would prefer to see him on the first line in GR, then in the press box or playing with Glenny and Miller.
