I love it how when the Wings are doing poorly people put the blame 100% solely on Holland, but when the team wins, credit is given to others. Lets just ignore 1998 and 2002, but to not give the credit of the 2008 team to Holland is just ludicrous. Nill and Yzerman may have been there to assist him, but lets not fool ourselves into thinking they did everything while Holland just sat back. It all goes through the GM good or bad. One of the most important aspects of being a GM is the ability to know when to listen to your assistants versus when to overrule what they recommend.

If you are not just being sarcastic, he is talking about Laviolette's offensive minded system. They did rank 12th in the league last year. http://www.todaysslapshot.com/nhl-west/nashville-predators/peter-laviolette-brought-offense-first-mindset/

Don't get me wrong, I highly doubt they would do it. But if there was a team out there that was going to make a dumb trade due to an overreaction....it would be Philly.

If Holland ranks dead last in trades over the last x amount of years, that tell me their are two main reasons. 1) Holland refuses to make a bad deal (think the Seguin trade). He likely turns down alot of trades, which on one hand pisses off a lot of fans, but on the other who wishes in retrospect that he pulled the trigger on the supposed Larkin/Myers deal. 2) Holland is not creative. To make trades sometimes you need to be able to get creative, maybe Holland and his team are just not good at that. Most likely answer, a combination of the 2 things above. When you have a GM who refuses to risk losing on deals AND is not creative, you rank dead last in trades.

He wasnt pulled in favor of Gustavsson in 2014, he was injured with what many believe was a unreported concussion. http://www.sportsinjuryalert.com/2014/04/red-wings-goaltender-jimmy-howard-might.html#.V57VJTUYHd4 If you look at his stats from those playoffs he had a 2.02 GAA , 93.1 Save %, and 1 Shutout. I agree its unlikely a team trades for him if their starter goes down due to the term left on his contract, but the nice thing is that every year the term goes down, it becomes a little bit easier to trade him as long as he doesn't regress. Hopefully he plays great this year as a backup and a team out there that is having goalie issues will want to make a trade. Personally I am hoping for Mason to play bad for Philly. They both have similar cap hits though Mason only has 1 year left on his contract. I wont hold my breathe though.

Can you be more specific? How are the Wings of October 2016 worse then the Wings of October 2015 "by a lot". The argument you gave (see bold) doesn't make us worse then last year, if anything it means nothing has changed.
-
I know all the fans (myself included) want him to dump E, but has Holland or anyone on the Wings ever even indicated the idea? Obviously Howard has been shopped around, but I have never read anything about E.

I thought I read this morning that you were going to stop referencing Helm in every thread? Just because you dont say his name, doesn't mean we don't all know who you are talking about lol.
-
I dont follow Jarnkrok much, but if he was willing to sign this deal maybe there is a reason. If he and his people believed that he had Darren Helm upside, I'm not sure he would have signed for 6 years at 2mil per year.

Probably the highlight of the 2013 playoffs.
-
I was thinking the exact same thing. I think in this city it comes down to the fact that he didn't win a cup which is ridicoulas.

There has been alot of talk about this lately prompted by Datsyuk's retirement, so I figured now is the perfect time to create a thread. I want this topic to be a place where people discuss who will get in, the biggest snubs, players recently retired and whether or not they should get in, and players currently playing and if their career's are on pace to get in. To start the convo, I looked up a list of the biggest HOF snubs, here it is: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2588817-ranking-the-biggest-hall-of-fame-snubs-in-hockey-history 1) Rogatien Vachon 2) Butch Goring 3) Sergei Makarov 4) Eric Lindros 5) Paul Kariya 6) Tom Barrasso 7) Dave Andreychuk 8) Alexander Mogilny 9) Jeremy Roenick 10) Theo Fleury Honorable Mentions Guy Carbonneau Curtis Joseph Bernie Nicholls Mark Recchi Bobby Smith Keith Tkachuk Pierre Turgeon John Vanbiesbrouck Mike Vernon Doug Wilson Chris Osgood (not on list, added by me) Here are guys who are going to be eligible in the upcoming years: 2017 http://www.notinhalloffame.com/hockey/the-hockey-futures/2017-hockey-eligibles Daniel Alfreddson Ed Jovanovski JS Giguere Nikolai Khabibulin Petr Nedved Ray Whitney Ryan Smyth Saku Koivu Teemu Selanne Tim Thomas Todd Bertuzzi Tomas Kaberle Tomas Vocoun 2018 http://www.notinhalloffame.com/hockey/the-hockey-futures/2018-hockey-eligibles Daniel Breire Evgeni Nabokov Kimmo Timonen Martin Brodeur Martin St. Louis 2019 Pavel Datsyuk Brad Richards

When people post the same thing every day in multiple threads, I would say that answers your question lol.
-
Ok, but my question was in a world where Ott and Miller do not exist, who do you envision being the healthy scratches who sit in the press box every night in case someone gets injured. There are usually 1-3 players in that role.
-
Let me ask you this....who do you want to see sit in the press box every night? That's likely 3 spots that need to be filled by someone. If there was no Ott and no Miller, who do you want getting zero icetime in the NHL and AHL?
-
Man, talk about being over the top, everything is the 6 degrees of Darren Helm with you. Its like now that Franzen is done you need a new whipping boy for everything. Mrazek being offered what he is being offered is not because of Helm, it's because of his collapse mid season. You dont give 5mil to a guy that was bailed out by his backup. I would have to imagine that even if Helm walked these offers would be no different. An offer in a negotiation? You make it sound like Holland slept with his wife, seriously relax.

I guess this "ranking" should be "fans rank management based on the last 3 months" that's what this really is.
-
This list is a joke, just a few "rankings" that baffle: Arizona - 7th Buffalo - 9th Winnipeg - 10th Chicago - 12th Toronto - 13th Carolina - 14th Anaheim - 19th LA - 20th So according to this, the management teams of Anaheim and LA are not at the level of teams such as Arizona, Buffalo, and Winnipeg as those teams just ooz of success. This list seem to have a bias towards teams that tank. In what world is Chicago (as much as I hate them) ranked lower the Arizona???

Here is a "point leader" list of active players. http://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/records/nhl-active-players-all-time-points-leaders.html
-
No he was a superstar player, but it was for a very very short period of time. That IMO is the biggest argument against him. He was a superstar for a few years, but for the most part he was just a good player.
-
I think point totals may be a factor, 402 Goals, and 989 Points. Seems stupid if 11 more points made big difference, but who knows.
-
Well Khabibulan becomes eligible in 2017, that's what that means. It's not everyone that IS eligible as Osgood has been eligible for years. If anything be upset that he didn't even make their "honorable mentions list" as I had to add him myself.
-
If true, my bad. I assumed you had to be out of just the NHL.
-
It would be kind of cool to see Kariya and Selanne get in together.
-
If I had to guess, I would have to guess that next years class will be: Teemu Selanne Paul Kariya JR Mark Recchi *edit* I didnt realize Recchi was 12th all time in points. He should definitely be in the next class.
