A player has a bad game, people dont notice. A goalie has a bad game "he lost you the game". Hardest position to play in hockey.

Having a bad game or two means nothing. Patrick Roy is one of the greatest of all times, but as Wings fans we can easily remember one of the worst game 7 performance in history, as well as the epic games that led to his exit from the Habs. Not that Mrazek is Roy, but the point is that everyone has bad games and bed stretches. Agree with kickazz, Mrazek is our #1.

You're half right, its consistency and superior skill set. You can be the most consistent goalie in the world, but if another goalie is also consistent but you have superior lateral movement, quicker reflexes etc. you will be the better goalie. Such a tough position.

    Dennis Wideman Suspended 20 Games

Report came out today saying that Henderson is still suffering from a concussion from the hit Wideman gave him. http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/14805442/nhl-referee-don-henderson-indefinitely-concussion-symptoms

Ethics and relevancy aside, "the cloud" backs up everything. My point is that even if you don't use the cloud, I believe your text messages are saved on a server as well. This comes up in criminal cases all the time.

We have one of the best system's in the world when it comes to player to development, its not a coincidence that this keeps happening to us. Just like in football its not a coincidence that first and second round picks have been busts over the years with the Lions.

    Dennis Wideman Suspended 20 Games

I'm pretty sure if he had to give up his phone legally, and then "accidentally" broke it, he would either lose his chance to appear or he would have to still show the content as I am pretty sure all text messages are saved on a server somewhere.

Datsyuk Now 7th in All-Time Wings Goals

I agree, but I cant get behind calling a 19 year old kid "McJesus". There is something really creepy about that.

    Kari Ramo

LOL, I feel like Red Wing fans would crap all over Johnny Hockey. All I hear on this board is how our forwards are undersized, I can only imagine the tone if we bring in a kid who is 5'9, 157 pounds. To put that into perspective, Tatar is 30 pounds heavier then he is.

Datsyuk Now 7th in All-Time Wings Goals

Not to put words in anyone's mouth, but to be fair,it sounds like he is posing the question "is Larkin in 2016 better then Datsyuk in 2016", not is Larkin better then Datsyuk in his prime. Either way, my answer would still be no. I think Larkin is the more consistent player in 2016 due to him healthier/younger, but if we were in a game 7 and I could only have one or the other, I am taking Datsyuk every time.

You are way oversimplifying this team's play this season. Its funny how you pick and choose certain players to try to get your point across. Last time I checked our team didn't consist of 6 players. To take what you did, and do it accurately, please see below: Abby: Top 6 forward. 1.8 or 4.25 million, both are not overpaying him. He is signed for too long but not overpaid at the moment. We are talking today right? Not 2021? E - Definitely unappreciated here, he's not the 7th or 8th d-man some make him out to be. With that being said, he is a bit overpaid. Kindl - Sure, overpaid Howard - Fair contract at time it was signed, but with Mrazek we dont need him. Mrazek - Great player, Great caphit. Pulks/Jurco: Extremely small cap hits for two guys 23/24 respectively. Please show me a team with guys who dont get scratched. Datsyuk/Zetterberg - Top 3 forwards, good caphits Larkin - Top 3 forwards, amazing caphit Tatar/Nyquist - Top 6 forwards, good caphits Richards - Top 9 forward, not a great caphit but only a 1 year deal. Helm - Top 9 forward, great caphit AA - Too soon to really assess either way Glendenning/Sheahan/Miller - Great 4th liners, great caphits Green - Top 4 D-man, a bit overpaid. We need his offense to step up a bit. Kronwall - Hard to say 100%. dont know if he has regressed or was just hurt the beginning of the year. Assuming he was just hurt, definitely a #2 dman with a great caphit. Qunicey - Top 4 D-man with a good caphit DD - Top 4 D-man with an amazing caphit. Smith - Good third pairing guy with a decent caphit Marchenko/Oueltte - Typical Kids getting their shot in the third pairing with very small caphits. So based on this, we have 4 Top 4 D-man but we are definitely lacking a legit #1 guy (an OEL, Weber, etc.). We have 3 top 3 forwards, 6 legit top 6 forwards, and a ton of good bottom 6 guys. I admit we could use another gritty top 6 guy, but overall I believe our top 6 (D, Z, Larkin, Tatar, Nyquist, Abby) are quite talented. Our team is much better then some people make it out to be. Due to a few bad contracts (E, Howard, Kindl) that ALL teams have, some people make us sound like we are riddled with bad contracts.

    Jensen

With the exception of maybe a select few, all people are saying is that someone will likely give him a shot. There is a big difference between saying "this guy will be a great NHL D-man" and "This guy will likely be given a shot to be an NHL d-man".

    Kyle Quincey

I would like to resign Quincey to a short term deal if we are able to get rid of E. I'm not one who hates E, or feels we NEED to get rid of him, but I don't see a place on this team next year for both. I like the kids, but I cannot see a world where 3 or 4 of Ouelette/Marchenko/Sproul/Jensen are in our top 6. Having that many kids playing every night is a huge risk, and is very unlikely to happen given our current roster. I think Kronwall, Green, and DD are coming back without a doubt, so that leaves 3 spots in our top 6. I would like to see this: Kronwall - Player to be Acquired (think OEL, Weber, Suter etc. which I realize will never happen lol) DD - Quincey Marchenko - Green Ouellete/Smith - One traded, the other 7th D-man fighting for a spot E - Traded if we re-sign Q Kindl - Traded (I think with next year being his final year it will be easier to move him) Sproul - Healthy Scratch Jensen - Traded or Sent to Minors as we cant have 3 D-men as healthy scratches

To some our whole team minus the euro twins and Larkin are 5th and 6th d-men, or 3rd/4th line forwards. I can remember as recently as June, some were saying Zetterberg was washed up.

Good point, I didnt even think about that. If anything, its even more impressive. Hank I know for sure played overseas because I remember he played with Brunner.

Datsyuk Now 7th in All-Time Wings Goals

I dont think so, they missed a year in their prime. I think any player would be more productive in their prime then in the tail end of their career. If Datsyuk plays in 2005, he likely does not play in 2017, Datsyuk in 2005>2017. Sure he could have suffered a major injury in 2005, but I think probability is on the side of a productive season.

    Jensen

By the sound of your post it seems like most of your point is addressing LeftWinger specifically. I don't get the feeling that Jensen has that much "hype" behind him. My stance is this, he is a good d-man in the AHL and I believe at some point someone will give him a shot at the NHL level. There are so many factors that come into play when calling up prospects, that to say nobody would want him IMO is likely wrong. Not saying this is true, but what if XO was brought up over Jensen simply due to chemistry with Marchenko. Again, there are so many factors. I am not saying that teams are clamoring for him, I just think that if you put him on waivers someone will take a shot on him. Then again, if he goes on waivers it will in September when a ton of teams are putting players on waivers. So given that fact, there is probably a better chance of him not being claimed that if he has to pass mid season. Though, at some point I think someone will give him a shot.

Datsyuk Now 7th in All-Time Wings Goals

Hank and Pavel missed 82 games in 2005 and 34 in 2013, so 116 games total. Lidstrom missed that, plus an additional 34 or 36 games depending on how you look at it (the season prior to the 1995 lockout was 84 games, after the lockout was 82 games) so he missed 150 games or 152 games. It sucks that stats are effected by the annoying lockouts.

Considering how much scoring has gone down since these guys entered the league, that is damn impressive!

His +/- is (-7), not great, but far from "a joke".

    XO Recalled

I've always been impressed with XO's passing ability. He had one really nice play where he faked a shot only to pass the puck over to Helm for a goal. On the bad side, he had a bad clear which I think led to the Trotman goal, but that happens. Overall I was happy with him. I like him and Marchenko as a third pairing.

    XO Recalled

I never even insinuated that he is some future stud. My thinking is that ONE team may take a chance on him as a depth d-man. You don't need to be overly big, great defensively, or have a high skill level to get an opportunity to be a 7th or 8th d-man. Especially if its an organization lacking depth.
  24. kliq

    XO Recalled

Potential. If another teams feels he is better then someone on their active roster, why wouldn't they claim him? You gain an asset for nothing. Andrej Nestrasil was claimed with only 13 games experience. Just because you are not good enough to make the Wings roster, doesn't mean you are not good enough to make the Oilers roster, or Jets roster, or Blue Jackets roster etc. I know some like to create the narrative that we are awful, but as it stands we are 8/30 in the NHL. This team can be harder to make then others. Please don't confuse this as me saying "teams will be lining up to get him", as that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is that I could see ONE team taking a shot at him if he goes on waivers.

    XO Recalled

I agree, at some point it would be nice to see what he can do, but it would take a lot of injuries and/or moves for that to happen.
