I hate to say this, but nothing the Wings have done have indicated they think of Jensen as anything more then a 7th, 8th, or 9th D-man. My guess is next year he gets put on waivers and gets picked up by someone, goes back to the AHL, or becomes a healthy scratch. We all fantasy GM, but lets face it there is a strong chance that next year all of Kronwall, E, DD, Smith, Green, and Marchenko are going to be in our top 6, and if we do trade/sign someone that only pushes Jensen down further the depth chart or just swaps someone out with someone already in there (ie. Pheneuf/Cowen). Even if we get an injury, it appears XO is above him on the depth chart in the big club's mind.

You're probably right, I admit I would be surprised if it did.
-
Scrivens was picked up by Montreal, wasn't he? Either way, if a team like LA lost Quick for the year and needed someone they could trust that had the capability to lead them to a cup by not necessarily being elite, but solid, none of those guys would suffice. Though Howard's poor play as of late is definitely hurting this argument. We need him to start playing well.
-
No, because Howard going there maybe takes them from 10th seed to 8th seed. My example is a team that feels they can win the cup, but with an injury wont be able to and Howard can be the difference maker. It probably wont happen, my example is what needs to happen for him to be traded soon.

Take that with a grain of salt. If there is a player you want to get rid of, giving off the perception that you dont want to move him only increases your bargaining power. I guarantee if someone offers him a trade that involves a good player or pick coming our way with no salary retention, he pulls the trigger. I don't think Holland is actively trying to trade him, but I think he would make the move if the right move came to him.

Arizona, but the actual cash amount being paid out is 525,000.

To be fair, the video in the initial post was taken down.

I fully understand the Clarkson/Horton situation. My point is that Clarkson looked like a player who had zero chance of being moved but it was done with some clever thinking on Toronto's part. I believe Detroit can do the same with Howard (clever thinking, not trading for an injured guy) if they wait and find a situation that they can exploit. Its all about timing in these situations. FOr example, maybe a goalie goes down from a contender before the trade deadline and Holland essentially give them Howard as a salary dump and then lets said team deal with his contract in the off-season. Not saying this will happen, but again my point is to wait for the right situation. Imagine a team like Chicago if Crawford tore an ACL, or a team like LA if Quick tore an ACL etc.

Its what he calls himself in an old video that went viral. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/dylan-larkin-embraces-his--d-boss--viral-video-past-154635335.html

No comparison? This is probably the best comparison possible. Both goalies came into Montreal with a pedigree, and were considered "stud" goaltenders Price Won the Vezina & Hart at the age of 27, Theodore won the Vezina and Hart at the age of 26. Sure Price had more career wins at the time of the win, but these two definitely have similarities. Not saying Price is going to turn out like Theodore, and not saying both situations are the exact same, but you cannot say "No comparison".

Very good point! 1 Year ago people were calling the Clarkson contract the worst in the NHL and the Leafs were able to get rid of it without retaining anything cap wise. If Holland is patient, he will be able to make his move.

You're not wrong, but that also has a lot to do with overall scoring dropping. In 1985 avg goals per game were 7.94. In 1990 avg gpg were 6.91, in 1997 avg gpg were 5.28, which is a pretty big drop.

Right now Howard's career is just screaming for a fresh start. Not that Howard is at the level the following player was at, but I remember back in the early 2000's when Belfour left Dallas, he sucked in his last season there and Marty Turco took away the starting job. Some people were saying he was done, long story short he went to Toronto and completely revived his career. Dubnyk did it last year did in on Minny, too a much lesser degree Luongo/Florida, it happens quite frequently.

Yup, and in 2013 Howard finished 6th. http://hockeygoalies.org/awards/vezinavoting.html

We literally had one last year http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/top-10-vezina-candidates-of-2014-15-rinne-rules/ 5. Jimmy Howard, Detroit Red Wings Howard has had a few rough years of late, but this season, everything is working for the 30-year-old netminder. Backstopping one of the most storied franchises in NHL history – and during a time some expected them to take a step back, no less – Howard is posting the league’s fifth best GAA, is eighth in wins, and has two shutouts. Now, if only the Red Wings could convert a few overtime and shootout games to victories, Howard could make a serious push at being the first Red Wings goaltender to win the Vezina since Terry Sawchuk in 1954-55, back when it was still given to the goaltender with the lowest GAA.

He never said Howard was at the same level as Price, I don't think anyone would. What he said was that Howard went through something similar which he did. People forget that 1 year ago Howard's stat's were right up there with the other elite goalies of the NHL, and was involved in Vezina talk.
-
lol, what do you mean? Oh wait, there it is.
-
Your not wrong, stats are definitely skewed with the decrease in scoring. I prefer to look at how good a player was in his era compared to his peers, but with that being said, goalies now a days are much better athletes then the goalies of the past. Bottom line, Mrazek is the real deal and if he keeps at this pace could be one of our best ever. Though he is a long way away from that.
-
Exactly. By "let one in" I meant it literately in the sense that he let one in. I didn't mean it in the sense that he let in a bad goal.
-
Not sure you can put 100% blame of that goal on E. Sure he may have made a mistake, but failed clearing attempts on the PK happen every game. At the end of the day Mrazek played a great game, but he let in a goal. When you let in a goal, you don't deserve a shutout. Not taking anything away from him, but it is what it is. Its not as if E scored on his own net.
-
Why? Was that third period goal a fluke or something? I was there in person and at the opposite side of the building, I really couldn't see how it went in.
-
This is hilarious!
-
Giving up everything you suggested in a year that we are not looking like a cup winning team for a rental is a horrible hockey move.

The board is back!

I've never seen this guy play before. I looked at the AHL's website and it it says he is 9th in the league in goals with 16. Is he a Holmstom type scorer (ie. dirty goals)? Based on what I have read, I dont get the impression that he is a sniper.
