I have to hear this. Frank, please elaborate!
-
This is in response to Buppy's comment that was in the Carolina/Detroit thread (ignore the date). This seems like the appropriate place to respond since the thread was locked. I think you may be taking my comments out of context. I am not advocating for Miller as a "must have" over the people you listed, I am responding to the initial post that said Miller is taking Jurco's spot. I am happy to have him on our 4th line andI would rather play him then Ferraro or Andy, but I am also realistic that he will likely not be back next year.
-
Are you anti fantasy sports? Or are you upset that MLSE is getting involved with it?
-
That we agree on!

Exaggerate much lol. I'm saying he is very good on the PK and a better fit on the 4th line then Jurco. Never said he is a god or the best 4th liner in the history of the NHL (has anyone lol????). You want to discuss coaching philosophies, that is a different conversation. As of October 12, 2015, the 4th line is what it is and given what it is Miller is a better fit then Jurco, that's what I am arguing. Also, him having 5 goals and being -3 literally has NOTHING to do with his ability on the PK. Being ranked 17th does slightly fall on him, but that is a team PK% not a reflection of one person. Baring a trade, I do agree that he probably doesn't get re-signed due to cap reasons.

If that were true, Weiss would have played every game he was healthy for last year. You mention Franzen, Howard and Miller. Howard is not keeping Mrazek down, they are literally battling for the starting job, and after 2 games both are playing very well. If we were 41 games in and Howard was playing like garbage and Mrazek was playing great yet Blashill kept starting Howard, then you would have a point. But that just isn't what is going on and is an incorrect narrative. Again, Miller is a great 4th line grinder, do you honestly bevel that Jurco should be in THAT role? I would also love to see Jurco get a legit shot, but not on the 4th line. I'm not even going to get into Franzen, that topic has been discussed to death.
-
I have to disagree with you. Miller is a very good 4th line grinder who excels on the PK. Jurco playing in his spot would not be a good fit. Andersson is a healthy scratch, he's not taking anything away from Jurco. Franzen is a bigger contributor then Jurco. One day Jurco may very well get better, but it hasn't happened yet. If Jurco outplayed Franzen in practice/camp, I'm sure Franzen would be the healthy scratch, and Jurco would be 3rd line winger.

I was reinforcing Son of a Wing's point that alot of NHL players score at the junior level, and it doesn't mean their coaches messed them up or underutilized them. lol.....case and point! I agree with your original post.

I remember Steve Ott scored 50 goals for the Spits.

Did anybody else notice that Toronto's new acquisition Grabner is a healthy scratch? I guess Babs has found his new Weiss. -
Ya I know your right, but I wish the players realized that with the cap they are not helping the entire NHLPA but taking as much as possible but rather just the other top end guys.

Its things like this which just make me respect guys like Datsyuk and Lidstrom so much more. They were always willing to take less so their teammates could get more and so they could be on a winning team. I have never understood why certain people/posters push for top stars to break the bank, there is only so much money to go around and while the top guys do deserve to get paid the most, there is a difference between being fair and being greedy.

Me to! I'm pumped!!! -
For the record, I wasn't saying that was my opinion. The statement made was that the poster was surprised some people were negative to him being on the roster, and I gave what I believe is the reason for some of the negativity. My personal opinion is somewhere in the middle. I think Holland is one of the best ever in developing young talent, and as frustrating as it is to some that he loves to "let them develop", nobody can deny his track record. Sometimes a guy comes in who doesn't need to develop in the minors, and if Larkin is one of those guys I am absolutely thrilled.

Being thrust into a role like he is being put into can be a tough thing for an 18 year old kid. If he comes in and cant handle it, it could hurt his confidence. I hope that doesn't happen, and personally I don't think it will, but it could. Nobody wants to see Larkin turn into a Daige, Stefan, DiPietro etc. That's why some people are against it.

You could also easily argue, would Weber have done it if he thought there was a chance he could be suspended 20+ games. If these cheap-shot are actually enforced with harsh suspensions, they will stop (or at least dramatically go down).
-
Sorry, but i've never heard offender status used in that context before. It would be interesting to see what they would do if a guy like Shea Weber did that.
-
Why do you think the NHL should not take past suspensions/actions into consideration when handing out suspensions?
-
Your probably right, but at least he gets 1 more chance. 1 year ago everyone thought Dubnyk was done and look what happened. I doubt that will happen to him, but an opportunity is an opportunity.
-
Nice to read this! I've always liked him, he's definitely a "what could have been" type player. Sucks to have your body let you down the way his has. I admire his perseverance.

I don't want to lose any of these guys, but with that being said this is just a part of hockey. Lower level players without big upsides clear through waiver all the time at the beginning of the season. Callahan wasn't claimed last year, so I don't see him being claimed this year, Lashoff I doubt will be claimed, and I dont really know much about Miele but a 27 year old with limited NHL experience probably wont be claimed either. Don't get me wrong, you never know. I just don't see it at this time of year. I will say Callahan is most likely though of the three.

Points or Goals?
-
I'm a bit confused. Are they not calling away games? (ie. your Ken Daniels example). Or are they calling them, just not live in the building? (ie. the first part I bolded).
-
In all seriousness, has he ever had a full season in the NHL where he didn't land on the IR at least once?
