    Cleary re-signs... 1 year deal

Illitch seems to be a very loyal guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he spearheaded this. Wings have always been loyal to their players, and as a result their players have always been loyal back (ie. Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg) all signing deals below market value. To contrast that, next time Calgary asks a guy to sign for a discount, i'm sure after reading the Glenncross article, that player may think twice.

How does this signing in any way effect you? I dont see how Holland signing him, means he is showing any type of disrespect towards the fans. Its basically a minor league contract, we are not going to lose anybody because of it, the money will not count towards the cap.

    Moving Jimmy Howard

I don't like assigning a number of games for each of them to play, let them play and give the playing time to whoever earns it. If they play at the same level, give it to the up and comer.

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount

I never said Glencross was asking for empathy. My original comment was in response to Franks comment where he said: I feel bad for him and his fate is exactly the reason why players shouldn't give a discount at all. I'm always amazed when people say players should sign for a lot than they are worth to do the teams a favor. Frank said that he had empathy for Glencross, my response was that I don’t feel bad for him, and that people (by people, I mean players, fans, etc) can’t expect anyone to feel bad for them. My comment was not to construct a narrative that Glencross himself came out and asked for empathy, it was simply my view on situations like this. I believe that athletes are extremely lucky to be able to be paid the way they are paid, and while they have every right in the world to feel the way they feel, and I truely dont begrudge them a bit for it, the general public for the most part doesn’t want to hear them complain about money. When they do, they come across as entitled and spoiled. While Glencross has every right to feel upset, fans on here have every right to be annoyed by his comments when he voices them publically, weather it was him blogging or being interviewed. Funny thing is, I was actually going to put in my response (not that he is asking for it) because I thought someone might jump on me for it, but I decided against it. I guess I need to be 100% clear on here. That wasnt my point, but I see why you thought it was based on the way I wrote what I wrote. Sorry you took it that way. I'm just an advocate

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount

I am not bitter at all that these guys are making this kind of money. I am just not going to feel empathy for a player because his last contract was 10 million over 4 years and not 12.5 million over 4 years.

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount

The guy has a right to feel the way he feels, I can't begrudge the guy for that. But like I said before, people cant expect empathy from the general public. I equate it to this, if a CEO of a company complains to people working the line that they didn't receive their yearly bonus, and this CEO makes 5 times what the workers on the line get paid, is it silly to expect empathy from the workers? Of course it is. When an athlete complains about money in public, should they be surprised when they get a negative response? No. Unless an athlete doesn't care about the public response, these types of things are best left said in private, not in public. No, people called you crazy when you said the highest paid player in the league "took a discount" after he saw a giant salary increase.

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount

I think the people commenting about "the struggle to feed his family" are referring to Frank's comments, not so much Glencross's comments.

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount

The guy may have cost himself a bit of money signing for a discount, but if someone who gets paid 10mil expects empathy from people, its not going to happen.

If Stamkos wants to come to the Leafs, there is no way they say no, especially when giving away assets is not involved.

    Moving Jimmy Howard

Unless someone offered us something we cant refuse, keep Howard. His value is low right now and we wont get alot for him. Best case for us is both play great this year and then in the offseason someone needs a goalie and we have some leverage. Plus, Mrazek without a safety net scares me a bit.

Mike Richard's Contract Terminated (Not Bought Out)

If there is a morality clause and he broke it, it will be an easy decision. Voiding of the contract will stand. In a court of law, if you break certain provisions of a contract, that contract can be terminated. If there is no morality clause, voiding of the contract will not stand. I think its going to come down to if he ends up being convicted or not.
  13. Interesting article on ESPN http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/13410741/nhl-updating-every-nhl-team-mount-rushmore Here is Detroit's: Detroit Red Wings 2009 team/theory: Gordie Howe, Nicklas Lidstrom, Terry Sawchuk and Steve Yzerman. Eleven Stanley Cups for the Red Wings. I believe Gordie, Lidstrom and Stevie Y are locks. I went with Sawchuk. He won three Cups in four seasons as the Wings' netminder in the early '50s. 2015: Pavel Datsyuk will make the Hall of Fame and have his number retired, but he can't crack this group. Same goes for Henrik Zetterberg. So: Howe, Lidstrom, Sawchuk, Yzerman.

Grantland: The Heavyweight Belt of NHL Rivalries

The Pittsburgh/Philly rivalry I would say was right up there, that was only a couple years ago. Though I guess it didnt last that long at that intensity.

Mount Rushmore for all 30 NHL teams

This list is about who is should be on the mount Rushmore for each individual franchise and every team have a story to tell. If Messier is a huge part of Edmonton's story, he should be on their list. If he is a big part in NYR's history, he should be on their list as well. One has nothing to do with the other.

    Getting bigger.

Agreed, plus it must be a little nerve racking to think that if you hit someone it could end your season.

Red Wings Sign D Robbie Russo

6'1",5'9".............right handed, left handed. Its all the same right.....lol Now that I took my tongue out of my cheek, I like it. It appears to be a low risk signing, and the last time I remember KH taking a chance like this was with DD and we all know how that worked out. Not saying he will be DD, but former captain of Notre Dame seems like something to be slightly excited about. Cant have too many prospects.

Mike Richard's Contract Terminated (Not Bought Out)

I think the Kings may have a hard time with this considering Richards is just under investigation. My apologies if I am wrong, but he hasnt been charged yet....right? If there was a charge or especially a conviction, I could see this happening without an appeal, but to cancel a contact based on an investigation, that seems like a slippery slope.

    Free agents this off season

Ya exactly. Frank suggested that we sent Mrazek back down to the AHL, so I asked "Doesn't Mrazek have to pass through waivers at this point anyways?". Implying that we cant send him down to the AHL because we would lose him.

  21. How is the 2002 roster relevant when comparing Z to Toews? Z didnt start playing until the 2002/2003 season. Plus, Z didnt really become an elite player until 2006 anyways.
  22. I guess that's fair. The injury bug didn't really start hitting Z until later on in his career. I guess you cant really compare career to career until they are both retired.
  23. Ill do it the other way around Zetterberg was a better goal scorer Zetterberg was a better playmaker Zetterberg was a better leader Defensively, I honestly dont know, they are both pretty good. The only thing Toews may have on Z is that he is a bit more durable.
  24. If Toews is on any team other then Chicago (other then maybe LA), nobody puts him on the pedestal he is on right now.
  25. To your first question, because that is the narrative being told by the media in 2015. To you second, because the last version of Zetterberg we saw appeared to be a a shell of what he used to be, while Toews helped lead Chicago to the Stanley Cup. If Zetterberg can get back to what he was, this is a debate. If what we saw from Zetterberg post Benn cheap shot is a true refection of what he is going to be moving forward, its not a debate. I'm hoping Zetterberg uses the summer to rest and heal, and that he comes back healthier then ever. Do I think we are going to see the Zetterberg of 2008? Unfortunately no. If I had to guess, I would say we will likely see something in between the Z of 2008 and the Z of 2015 (second half).
