Oh wow! Is Pheonix Copley at least a stud in the making? If not, I dont get it. Though, I didnt realize Oshie only had 2 years left until he is a UFA.
-
What is with "need" to get rid on Quincey. They guy played good last year and is a pretty good guy to be on our third pairing. I think some people have just branded him in a certain light, and it doesn't matter how he plays they will always see him that way.
-
Nothing you are saying is wrong. I should have been more detailed in my response, my comment was in reference to people saying that they could have helped up land Oshie. They could be in the deal, but it would take alot more with them being soon to be UFA's.
-
Helm and Abby are not that valuable with both being UFA at the end of the year.
-
Interesting.....where there is smoke there is fire.
-
I'm not surprised about Franson. If my memory serves me right, the guy has never been an easy negotiation. Constantly holding out until last minute, and always signing 1 year deals while he was an RFA.
-
I highly highly doubt it. Tatar got what he got with only 1 full season under his belt. Nyquist has performed well 2 straight years, and I believe is older then Tatar. (ie. closer to UFA).
-
We still have to re-sign Nyquist, Jurco, and Pulkkinen. Based on Tatar getting 2.75 last year, I'm guessing Nyquist gets somewhere in the 4-5mil range, then the rest will go to the other two. Unless we get rid of Kindl, I dont see how we can do anything else.

I was shocked, but happy with this signing. Very low risk with it being only 1 year. Essentially he is coming in to play the role that Weiss was supposed to play, 2nd line center. I like that this move allows Zetterberg to play on the first line with Datsyuk, and that it puts Sheahan on the third line, a role that I think he will thrive in at this point in his career.

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
kliq replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
I went on record saying that I didn't want the Wings to sign Green. My reasoning was that I thought he had a good chance at being another Weiss with his injury history and his slow decline. With that being said, I was almost sure he was going to get a Niskanen like deal. Given the fact that we got him for only 3 years, I am cautiously happy with this deal. -
If we had an aging roster....I agree. When you are re-building, standing pat and letting your players develop is not a bad thing.

I read an article on TSN mentioning Osgood. How cool would it be to have Lidstrom, Fedorov, and Osgood all in the same year! I doubt he will, but one can hope!
-
Please explain to me how Fedorov is responsible for the cup in 2008?

Completely agree with krsmith17 and Frank. I was recently interviewed for the news, and half of the stuff I said probably made me sound like an idiot. When you have a microphone in your face, and know that there are a ton of people watching, it can cause major anxiety. My experience was just for the local news and I am in my early 30's. This kid is a teenager and is speaking to the world.

Talbot is a UFA after this year. Lehner has 2 years left, then he is an RFA. That's my guess.
-
His cap hit is 6.9 million with 3 years left. I think somebody would have taken that if they thought it could be the difference between being good, or winning the cup. He's not as good as he used to be, but he's still a top pair d-man. Does anyone know if he has a no-trade clause? Clearly that wasn't working for them.
-
Completely agree. I do think he is a star in the making.
-
On Sportsnet they were saying there were some rumblings about Rask. They speculated Edmonton may go after him. I'm not sure I would classify Hamilton & Lucic as "Big Name" players. Hamilton is definitely a young stud, but were aren't talking Shea Weber here. I would even guess that the average NHL fan may not even know who he is. Lucic is technically a name, but not because of his skill set, but rather because he is an ass.
-
I think you're right, there is a common denominator in all these trades and its not Sweeny or Chiarelli. What I don't understand, is if Boston wanted to re-build, why not trade Chara? What trade your young stud d-man.
-
Ughhh I actually like LA. Not happy to see Lucic there.

Scoring 100 points this season would be tough, that would put him 13 points above 2nd place in points. He scored 1.03 points per game this year, meaning theoretically in an 82 game season he would score 84 points. We're on the same page though, its damn impressive for a 36 year old.

Yzerman wins GM of Year (& other awards discussion)
kliq replied to Hockeymom1960's topic in General
My point wasn't that it was perfect now, it was that if you split it up it also wouldn't be perfect. IMO what hey should do is what I put in bold. -
Completely agree. Not to mention the guy hasn't played in a full season since 2008 playing 70, 72, 35, 32, 49, 75, 68 in the last 7 seasons. This guy is trending downwards, and has a Weiss/Lecavalier/Clarkson situation written all over him.

Yzerman wins GM of Year (& other awards discussion)
kliq replied to Hockeymom1960's topic in General
I like that in theory, but what I think would end up happening is we would have 2 very one dimensional winners. The offensive winner would be someone who scores a ton but could suck defensively, and the defensive winner could end up being a stay at home d-man who scores 6 points a year. They should continue to do it the way they do it, but with more emphasis on the defensive side of things. -
Frank, please never stop posting lol.
