I am pumped! I just put down my deposit for season tickets today which means this game is an automatic!

I'll wait to make a judgement, but I cant say I love it yet. Seems like too much of a gimmick. I was hoping they just extended OT to 10min.

If Yzerman was traded in 1994, I dont see his jersey being in the rafters.

Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick

As far as Arizona goes though, they may be trying to reach the cap floor. -
Players who might be available due to teams cap issues
kliq replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Completely agree, there is no harm in people discussing options. My point was just that people want a new D-man or two so badly, that they start to think that everyone out there is an upgrade (which isn't the case). -
I agree with most of this. As far as the bold part since I am the one who said that, I was never trying to put Strome down or dismiss his talent in any way, my #5 comments were in response to Franks who implied that Strome had superstar potential (which he does) and that Larkin has no chance at being at superstar level. My point was that both have a chance to be superstars.

I agree. I feel that because we do need an upgrade at D, people are just mentioning anyone who's available. -
He is definitely under appreciated around here by some.

Ok, I get your point now.

I would love to add Seabrook, but I just dont see that happening. I cant see Chicago getting rid of Toews, Kane, Seabrook, or Keith until there run is over, or unless one of them all of a sudden demands a trade (ie. Martin St. Louis). -
Thanks....that's why I ended the debate, it was going in circles. I don't want debate the correlation between a player being "generational" and the way fans vote in an all star game.

How is the only period in this between nhl and caliber lol. When you are re-building a team, you have to be very careful when it comes to UFA signings. UFA's are typically average players who are paid like very good players. I would rather grow and develop our own talent, or make a trade for a guy who has a contract that wont bite us in the ass (ie. Weiss). I am not completely against signing a UFA, but it has to be the right one. Alot of people are talking about Green, this is a guy I do not want (injury prone & declining), however Franson is a guy I would not mind if he comes at a reasonable price, which unfortunately I don't think he will.

That really means nothing Frank. In 2006 Claude Giroux was chosen 22nd, in 2007 Sam Gagner was drafted #6 and Tomas Hickey #4. Being drafted #4 just means that at that exact moment in time, you are projected to be the 4th best prospect in the world (or the highest probability of what a team thinks it needs). Larkin could very easily be a better player then Strome. If Larkin was eligible this year for the draft, I believe he would be a top 5 pick, or close to it. Do you really think that Larkin has no chance to become a player like those you named? Or are you doing your "don't want to get your hopes up" thing so you can be positively surprised? Dont get me wrong, I agree those are high expectations, but the sky's the limit for someone that age. I do agree with your assessment on Toews, I hate how he gets all the credit for Chicago's success when Keith, Hossa, Sharp , Seabrook Kane etc. have been there every step of the way. Nothing against him as a player, but he didn't do it alone like some people make it sound like.

I dont get how this statement is in response to my statement below. Did you mean to quote me?

If Toronto feels that they have no chance of competing in the next 3 years anyways, the caphit does not matter. If they trade for him but get to unload Phaneuf's 7 year deal, and get a legit top prospect (ie. Mantha), I could easily see it. They can always send Weiss down to the minors, or trade him to a team trying to reach the cap floor in a year or 2.
-
The run he had in 2013 showed he is capable of being a star. Will he hit his ceiling.....only time will tell.
-
Toronto needs to realize, they have a declining player with 7 years and 49 million left on his contract. He's not as valuable with that contract that they think. Whoever gets him will definitely be getting a good d-man for maybe 3 years, but then you are stuck with an older guy not even closes skill wise to what's he's getting paid. (ie. Weiss, Orpik, Semin, Clarkson). I think there are some teams out there that wouldn't take that contact on for anything.
-
We are going in circles, I think you got your point across, I think I got my point across........Ended lol.
-
Could be a negotiation tactic. If TO is trying to get Mantha, this could be Detroit's way of making it appear as if they want to make a deal anymore, hoping that due to the broken Pheneuf/TO relationship, it could lead to Toronto making an offer not including Mantha. I admit a stretch, but you never know.

I would not give up goose & a first round pick, I wouldn't even give up just goose. Thornton is at the age where he is headed for a decline while Nyquist is an emerging star.
-
I dont think anyone is judging him for jumping around from team to team, but rather questioning the impact he had on all those teams. I think the answer is situational. In Pittsburgh he came into a situation where he was coaching the defending cup champs and ended up repeating, his impact is probably moderate. In Detroit I believe he had a huge impact, I dont know if we win those 3 cups if not for Scotty. In Chicago, my gut feeling tells me he had nothing to do with it. He probably gives an opinion here and there, but ultimately probably has nothing to do with it. This is all guess work on my part though. Who really knows. Unless you could go back in time and change things, nobody can prove anything.

Jets re-sign Anthony Peluso for only 675.000 AAV (2 years)
kliq replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Agreed. Also, when a thread is started about RFA Anthony Peluso signing a 2 year contract extension, there are not many other directions the thread can go. -
Pheneuf & Kessel would be a 15 million caphit for the next 7 years. Even if we sent back Weiss, that move could cripple us for a long time if either of them go through a sharp decline.

Dont forget Mr. Hockey Gordie How.

What the issue, those names would go perfectly with Lindstrom and Yserman.
