To be fair, nobody except Red Wing brass, the players themselves, and the agents know what was actually offered. I'm sure if Holland wanted to throw ridiculous amounts of money (see. washington/Brook Orpik) he could have signed some guys.

I bothers me to, but I dont think Babcock owes the fans any type of explanation. What goes on behind the scenes, in the room etc. is team business. I don't want a coach that tell the media everything, that is not what's best for the team. But, yes I agree Smith should get a chance on the PP.

I don't believe our assessment of what the Wings should or should not do, should be based on "And that worse than 5m a year sitting on bench?" Bringing in someone from the outside can be risky, Jordan Staal is a HUGE risk as he has 9 years left on his contract at a very high cap hit. If anything, the Weiss situation should wisen people up to the risks of signing UFA's to big contracts, and the risks of trading for a big contract. As far as Weiss goes, can we please wait until we judge this situation? Weiss may very well end up being a burden to this team, but its way to early to tell. This very possibly could be a strategy by Babcock to ease him back, opposed to a punishment because "he sucks now". The way people are talking, you would think that we are at the half way point of the season or close to playoff time. People want instant gratification, now that his injury is supposedly over they want him to become a #2 center again over night, when they don't get that, they freak out. Again, I AM NOT saying things are looking good, but lets just wait and see.

Not me, he is under contract until 2023 with a cap hit of 6 million per year.
-
To get Stall we would likely have to send Weiss, Kindl, and a bunch of kids as his cap hit is 8.25 million. I dont see Carolina wanting Weiss, unless they are getting a player like Mantha in addition. No thanks.

I agree with your point, but worst case scenario would be we starting letting in shorthanded goals.

As much as I like Helm, one thing I have always noticed about him is it seems like his legs are too fast for his hands. I cant even count the amount of times he gets a break, and then seems to lose the puck and/or falls down.

C - DD A - Nyquist A - Mantha

Thats not that unusual for a defenseman though. Last year Smith had 5 goals in 70 games, in comparison PK Subban had 10 goals in 82 games, Keith Yandle had 8 goals in 82 games. The Weber's and Karlsson's of the world are very rare. At the end of the day most defenseman dont score alot of goals. If they cant contribute with assists, move the puck, and get shots through from the blue line, offensively I'm happy.

That was an awesome game! I was there live and with about 5min left people started leaving in droves. Its funny, I whispered to my cousin "I dont know why people leave with time left in a 3-1 game, anything can happen" and then we see one of the best finishes in years. Such a good game!

I don't think this has been talked about yet http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/11710381/red-wings-arena-demolished-detroit-looks-emerge-bankruptcy

TSNs Insider Trading: Darren Dreger: The asking price for Tyler Myers still includes Dylan Larkin. The Red Wings are waiting for the price to come down.

For the record, I do agree he is the best of all time. His peak was unmatched by any other goaltender ever. He literally dominated. We are on the same page, the only difference is the lists you read rank him #1, the lists I have read have not. I bought a book "Best of the Best" by Scott Morrison where it ranks the best players ever at every position in the modern and original 6 era's, and it ranks him #3 in the modern era (behind Brodeur and Roy). Like I said though, I disagree. One of the most telling quotes I heard about Chris Osgood is the following (It may not be word for word): "If I showed any hockey expert the statistics of Chris Osgood, they would say the guy is a sure firer Hall Of Famer, then when I show them that the player is Chris Osgood, they change their tune". This is the definition of underrated. Not basing an assessment on results, but rather opinion/bias/preconceived notion.

Toronto Radio: Illitch is selling everything and Babs will be Leafs GM

Oh ya, the Andrei Vasilevski pick. I completely forgot about that trade. -
I think people are thinking of Dany Heatley circa 2007. Last year Dany Heatley got 28 points in 76 games and was a minus 18. I don't want him near this team.

How? I don't recall any trades between them. -
Thats cool to hear, I've never seen his ranked #1 (not that I am looking at lists all the time lol). He definitely deserves it. I think its his post 2002 career that hurts him in the eyes of some.

Agreed with Nill. It appears he is doing great things, but it is truly to early to tell. The Seguin trade makes him look like a genius, but I think that trade is more about being the right GM at the right time. I disagree regarding Yzerman. He hasn't showed he is one of the best in the business but he brought TB out of the basement and got them to the final 4, and now they are borderline contenders. -
It is frustrating, but injuries are a part of the game....what can you do.

Is this a provision in the new CBA? Can a contract be voided due to criminal conviction? -

Yes. His role currently is special assistant to the general manager, which seems to be leading in that direction as long as he proves he knows what he is doing. He is being groomed by the greatest organization in hockey. If he doesn't end up being a GM here, he will likely be a GM somewhere. http://redwings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=73337 -
Completely agree. He definitely didn't have the longevity of a Roy or Brodeur which is why he usually doesnt go down as the best ever. But IMO he had the best "prime" of any goalie in history. Just so much better then the second best goalie in the league.
-
I'm sure he will, he hasnt played in almost a year, and even when he played a year ago he was rusty from missing half a season the previous year. LOL, I dont think its possible for there to be a thread on this board where the names Cleary, Quincey, or Kindl are not brought up.

What does winning a cup in Pittsburgh really prove though? They have won a cup before, and they are loaded with talent. I see him going there being similar to a Labron James situation, where rather then getting respect, people will say he just took the easy path. If he were to leave, I think it would do much more for his legacy to go and win a cup in a place that has never done it such as a San Jose or a St. Louis. Though, I think staying and doing it with a completely different generation of players in Detroit would be much more impressive.

I get that if I go in through Google because I think its taking you to the old URL. If you go through the main page......NHL > Players etc. it should be good. Its really annoying though, I wont use the site anymore.
