It appears to be responsive design. If you shrink the window of your browser, notice how it conforms to the size? This is so they don't have to have multiple sites for different devices (ie. tablets, cells phones). Personally, I don't like the look of it.

Injured Datsyuk 2nd degree separated shoulder injury - out approx 4 weeks
kliq replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Weiss is 31, I said over 31. Kronwall......you're right, I just forgot him.. Point is, the poster was criticizing us as an aging team. Yes, most fans would get rid of Franzen and Cleary if given the chance, but I don't think any would get rid of Datsyuk, Kronwall, or Zetterberg. Two players fans don't want, does not make a team "an aging team, nobody wants to play on" -

We have 4 players over 31 (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Cleary, Franzen) -

Hopefully this settles the debate: http://www.hgfound.org/pub_patterns.asp "Growth ceases between 16 and 18 years of age, when the growing ends of the bones fuse. A person's adult height is determined by many factors, including the heights of his or her parents, the age at which puberty begins and the length and vigor of the pubertal growth spurt. An x-ray of the hand or knee allows the doctor to assess the maturity of the bones (bone age) and estimate how much growth potential remains." It sounds to me like you stop growing in height at 18. But like most things, there are exceptions to every rule. -

Not a good thing, but I would be much more worried if it was a knee injury. -
Selanne would still play if Boudreau wasn't Ducks coach

I was thinking he was referring to the AHL -

Dont forget, he was also 1 game away from a Stanley Cup in 2003 with Anaheim. -
Another factor in the "tie goes to the veteran" policy has to do with waivers/cap hit. If this was pre salary cap, things would be different.

Here is an article about the situation: http://www.clickondetroit.com/sports/mike-babcock-on-detroit-i-want-to-be-here/28140818 Quote from Babcock "I think they want me to be here. I want to be here. We'll find a way to work something out," said Babcock. "Right now, you might find this hard to believe, we have other things to worry about besides Mike Babcock." The guy wants to be here, if he didn't he would simply say he doesn't want to discuss the situation.

Ouch, that sucks. At least its not an injury to a joint. He should make a 100% recovery from this.
-
But its all Holland's fault! If he didnt sign Cleary and Quincey this never would have happened! *taking tongue out of cheek*

Unless he is traded Ericsson has another 6 seasons under contract. My guess is that between Sproul, Ouellet, and Marchenko, one of them will not pan out, and that will be the spot of Ericsson. If they all do (fingers crossed), I wouldn't be surprised if we traded Smith. I could actually see at some point us trading a guy like Smith and a kid for an elite or semi elite D-man.

Your coaching staff is a part of your "team". When I say we are a playoff caliber "team", I am referring to players and coaches. The topic wasn't if we were a playoff caliber roster. If the conversation is are we a playoff contending roster, I still say yes IF we are healthy. Also, people forget how much parity there is in the NHL 2014, look at Colorado, they went from 15th seed to 2nd seed in one year without really many roster changes. Having a bunch of young kids all start to gel and play at the next level at the same time can change everything. I have faith in our kids, its too bad so many fans do not. But hey.....hopefully they prove people wrong, actions speak louder then words.

I think making the playoffs is the definition of playoff caliber. It sounds like you are talking about being a Stanley Cup contender. I'm not denying our poor performance in the first round last year. Though I think that was more so due to match-up then anything. I don't see us performing like that against Pittsburgh. Not saying we win, but we definitely do better. Either way, this is all semantics, we are a playoff caliber team.
-
Your're right, he is an RFA again after the 2016 season. If he keeps getting better as we all predict, that will be when he signs his long term deal.If if regresses, he will likely sign a short term deal.
-
Do you mean far far from being a cup contender? You realize we did make the playoffs last year, we are not the Buffalo Sabres.

Even more to my point that they are taxed alot. Nice post, I learned some new info!

Can you please give me some examples of young defenseman with under 80 career games played who signed for 4mil per year?

Canadian income tax rates for Individuals - current and previous years Federal tax rates for 2014 15% on the first $43,953 of taxable income, + 22% on the next $43,954 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $43,953 up to $87,907), + 26% on the next $48,363 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $87,907 up to $136,270), + 29% of taxable income over $136,270. Provincial/territorial tax rates (combined chart) 11.16% on the next $69,758, + 12.16% on the next $70,000, + 13.16 % on the amount over $220,000 Plus, don't forget EI and CPP, I assume they pay that as well.

I also think he should be the highest paid coach, my point was he shouldn't be paid DOUBLE what the highest paid coach is getting.
-
From what i've read, in 2013 Carlyle wasn't even top ten. I think one could argue that Babs should be the highest paid coach in the league, but double the salary of the #2 paid coach is going way too far IMO.
-
You think he should be paid double what the highest paid coach is getting? Don't get me wrong, I love Babs, but that seems a bit ridiculous.

I believe in Ontario (since the majority of his career was played there) Alfie would be taxed 50%, plus there are union dues/escrow. I remember Kovalchuck said in an interview once that when you make 8million, you take home around 3.5.Though that will differ depending on what province/state you are playing in.
-
According to tsn.ca, Alfie will not be ready for training camp with his latest setback. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=461867

I think he will get at least one full season to backup Howard (ie. Quick/Bernier situation), but after that I agree with what you are saying.
