It all depends on how close to the cap they are, and what their plan is. If they are way under the cap, it makes more sense to just put him in the AHL and eat it. If they plan on acquiring UFA's and making trades in the off-season, then they should consider it. My gut tells me AHL.

100% agree with this, though in this case dont think Ottawa won on a hockey level (not implying that you are saying they did). This is the equivalent of us trading away Helm and getting Gaborik. Sure we moved a bad contract, but we're essentially just swapping one bad contract for another. I think the only reason for the deal is that Gaborik is owed less actual cash. Its all about money for Ottawa.

For the record, I dont think any of the 3 things will happen, but I will say this. IF we get Dahlin which is a BIG if, I do think it changes things for us in that big time players would be more likely to come here. With E having a resurgence this year, if I were Holland I would seeing if I could move him.

Never going to happen. You are just setting yourself up to be disappointed on deadline day, and then we are all going to have to pick you back up when you jump off the cliff. Green will go, 1 of Howard/Mrazek will go, 1 of Nquist/Tatar might go, E is going nowhere, Helm is going nowhere, and XO probably will. And that is likely best case scenario. Personally I'd rather Jensen be traded then XO.

If the Hawks land Dahlin I am done with hockey lol. Hopefully the squeak into the playoffs (so they dont get a good pick) and get their asses handed to them again.

Curious if people would re-think this now almost a year later. I truly think the right move last off season would have been for the Hawks to trade Toews. He's not worth 10.5 mil/year and the Hawks are now stuck with him for 5 more seasons at that cap hit.

Agreed. There is a reason why LA wanted him. Second pair D-man on a contender under contract for 2 more years at a caphit of just over 5mil, not bad.

Just read that there are rumors Gaborik is retiring. So maybe this is a Datsyuk situation.

Phenuef has 4 years left, and for LA has a caphit of 5.25 Gaborik also has 4 years left for Ott, and has a caphit of 6.5 (if you consider the 1.75mil being retained. I take Pheneuf at 5.25 over Gaborik at 6.75 every time. Are Thompson or Shore the difference makers here? I know nothing about them.
