He may get a PTO from a team looking for a backup, but retiring probably is his best bet at this point.
-
Who knows, at the end of the day these guys want to play. Detroit does offer that. I’m not banking on it, but I’m hoping for it.
-
What do you mean sign? Fleury is not a free agent, he has 2 years/14mil left on his deal and Vegas is looking to trade him. No contender will take on that cap hit for Fleury, so if he's traded he will need to go to a team like Detroit. Best case scenario for him, he goes to a team that will give him playing time, he plays well, and then he can be sent to a contender at the TDL. If Detroit is trading him they can retain 50% (unlike Vegas who is up against the cap) which will make it easier for a contender to take him on.

Golden Knights just signed Lehner to a 5 year deal worth 25ml, so at this point they must be wanting to trade MAF. Any chance we can get him and acquire a 1st? He also has a 10 team no trade list, so would he even consider Detroit?

I mean, it makes sense. Guy spent how many years on struggling teams in Florida and Vancouver, and now that he finally breaks out on a winning team, why during the prime of his career would he want to go to a rebuilding team and start all over again.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but its McKenzie's Final Draft Ranking Show. Not 100% sure if those in the US can watch.

Ya, the thread in general just got out of hand.

There were some funny posts I will say, it just got out of hand.

Its nice to see hockey news involving the Wings again. 6 months of pretty much nothing involving our franchise sucked.
-
Trust me, I hear you but I don’t take back what I said.
-
It’s not the topic but rather the way the topic is being discussed. If the mods want this board to become busier (which I have to assume makes them more money) they really need to shut stuff like this down as it’s going to turn people off and deter new people from signing up. As to you black aces comment, I did notice during the Stanley cup ceremony tonight, Jim hughson called them “aces”.

Thread should just be locked.

Experts are projecting it will be a 5th rounder.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if we got a 1st for Staal but also had to take back Smith.
-
Ok cool. Ya, can't be worse then last year, we had Biega on our second pairing at the end of last year.
-
Wow! So does Staal essentially slot in now as our #1 Dman? I havent watched him play for years, is he still any good? Is he better then DD?
-
No that changed. At this point its just a 10 team no trade list.
-
Ya, like @kipwinger said, considering he took a team friendly deal I doubt he would agree to a trade, especially since his team is still a contender. Plus, it would be a gutless move by management to even ask right now. Once the team begins to re-build (which is not anytime soon), then I think they could get away with it.
-
What would the $ range need to be to land him? What would the compensation be? In theory I'm open to it, realistically I'd be shocked if Yzerman did that to his old team. Despite it being fine to do as far as the rules go, there is such a taboo associated with it.
-
You know what, I didn’t think of that. A team who just cares about hitting the floor and spending as little as possible to do so would make sense. Can’t hurt for Yzerman to make that call.
-
I doubt it. I think the only chance is if he has a strong start to the season. Fingers crossed though.

Oh boy, this thread got out of hand.

I see what you are saying, and for the most part I agree. The one thing I would say, is hockey is likely losing out on some of the better athletes in the word when those athletes are from low income families given the incredibly high cost associated with minor league hockey. If you are a kid who is a HUGE hockey fan growing up, but your family is just scraping by, its a lot easier for your parents to put you in baseball, football, or basketball compared to hockey. Not saying I have a solution, but this may be the one area where something could be changed.
