I'm pretty sure it was the goalie coach that said that, not Holland.
-
I never once said we should give up on Mrazek.
-
100% agree 90 Point ceiling? Based on this year, that would put him under only McDavid. So you think he has Hart/Art Ross upside. I hope I am wrong, and you are right as nothing would make me happier, but to quote @DickieDunn you need to take off the rose coloured glasses. If you want to criticize Holland for overvaluing vets, 100% hear you. If you want to criticize him for a lack of trades, 100% hear you. But two things I don't think you can fault Holland for, are being on the losing side of trades and trading away future stars for bad players, and the other is treating his players poorly. The Mantha comments were JD not Holland, and lets not forget JD is the same guy that during the lockout equated the players to sheep who need to get in line.
-
For the sake of debate, please define "future star"? Do you see him scoring 100 Points? 75 Points? 50 Points? For the record, nobody here thinks he is bad, in fact most here like him a lot, myself included.

Bolded Part A: I get it, you are venting but we all know this is not happening Bolded Part B: You are over-hyping the kid because he is flashy.
-
Why are you trying to create a fake conflict between Holland and AA? When it comes to this kid, you have such a ridiculous bias.
-
Oh I would love it, trust me.
-
Yes, but I dont think he wants to trade his contract. The narrative of "E needs to go" has been created by the fans, I dont think management feel this way.
-
He's 26, and coming off a 25 goal campaign while playing hurt the entire season. Unless the surgery went poorly and he lost mobility in his shoulder which is very unlikely because I'm sure Holland has been receiving medical reports, there is no reason to think he will regress other then because fans are playing the "everything is going to go wrong" card.
-
100% agree with you. So many people dismiss the long term effects of the buyout, just look at what the Weiss buyout is doing to us right now, a 2.6 mil caphit for nothing. A trade with salary retention is the smartest move if Holland wants to rid him self of E. With that being said, I dont think he does.

The only thing I would like to see, is the Wings trading for a top pairing D-man, unfortunately I don't see that happening.
-
Your tone makes it sound like you feel the Wings are disrespecting AA, but in reality for a RFA who is not arbitration eligable, this is normal practice.
-
Its not as urgent, so my guess is they wanted Tatar signed first to give themselves a better idea of the cap.
-
Agreed, there is no need to spread E's cap hit over the next 6 years just to have empty cap space this year or to bring in a guy like Vanek.
-
What is the cap relief if we waive E?
-
Personally I like high numbers, anytime a player sticks out from the rest (ie Gretzky #99, Lemieux #66, Coffey #77 etc) I think its a good thing. To me a number like #2, or #4 is sort of generic.
-
There is no point, he thinks that AA is much better then he is and should not be traded for anyone. This is not even a knock on AA Lefty, you just think wayyyy to highly of him.
-
I don't buy the Sproul argument. If management and coaching staff want Sproul playing over E, all they have to do is waive E, or make him a healthy scratch. Also, they can buy him out next year. What you are thinking of is the Second buyout Window. See below: When can a team buy out a contract? There are two different answers to this question. The first is the most common - the regular buyout window. The start of this window shifts - it is either June 15th or 48 hours after the Cup is awarded, whichever is later. This window ends at 5pm EST on June 30th, just in time to let the dust settle before free agency starts. The second is a window related to arbitration, and it carries some extra restrictions. For this window to open, the team has to have a player that filed for arbitration. This window opens on the third day after the team's last arbitration is concluded (or settled, if it doesn't make it to a hearing) and is open for 48 hours. There are also restrictions on which players can be bought out - First, the player has to have been on the reserve list as of the last trade deadline (so no buying out that off-season signing you regret until the next trade deadline). Second, there is a minimum cap value for a contract to be eligible for this - $2.75m AAV initially, but the value goes up based on the average league salary each year. The notable absence in those restrictions is that it has nothing to do with who went to arbitration, any player who meets those two restrictions can be bought out. There's one last catch, though - this can only be done three times by each team. Not three times per year - three times over the entire length of the current CBA. The one exception to this extra window is when the only arbitration case is team-elected, and that player earned more than $1,750,000 (in 2013 dollars - it's adjusted up based on league average salary) in the previous season. In that specific case, the window does not open. Note: There was originally a third answer mentioned here but upon further investigation, the section of the CBA it was drawn from was referring to the arbitration buyout window and not a third buyout option. We apologize for this error. https://www.silversevensens.com/2015/6/10/8737195/nhl-buyout-rules-refresher-guide

Your first paragraph is directed at me as if I said I wanted to go with Howard over Mrazek.....where did I say that? I have gone on record many times saying I want to trade Howard and go with Mrazek, but not because Howard sucks, but rather he is a middle aged goaltender with an injury history. If we could have Howard as a backup at a 2mi caphit, I would love to have him here. With that being said, I don't think Mrazek is a sure thing by any stretch. My comments to you were: "Jimmy became a full time starting goaltender at 25, that is not that late for a goalie. Can you provide something to back these claims up? Based on your "whiny" comment, I am prompted to believe this is an emotional based post opposed to a factual post." If you interpreted that as me saying get rid of Mrazek and stick with Howard then that's on you.

In all seriousness, is anyone in the NHL #69? Or has there ever been?
-
I see zero reason to buy out E this year...we do that and all we have to show for it in the short term is an extra 4 mil in cap space that will remain unused. If next off season we cant move him AND we need the money, then I am open to it. Plus it saves us a year against the cap.
-
We could always try something like AA, Nyquist, and picks or AA, Tatar, Picks. Who knows. Best case for us is that the Jets goalie's suck this year and they need to make a trade.
-
We are going to be over the cap by likely 300K-800K. LTIR should take care of it, maybe it's no guarantee to us as fans speculating, but to management who are in talks with the docs I am sure they are aware of who will and who will not be available. Then we waive someone, but almost every team in the league has someone on LTIR at some point during the season. I'm really not worried.
-
I'm fine with that. I think NYI would take it, they bid higher then us last year on Nielsen, so if Nielsen gave the ok (due to NMC) that's where I would attempt to trade him. The only way I'm keeping him is if he could help us get JT (hey, one can hope).
-
To be honest I'm not really to concerned about cap space for this year, its next year I am more concerned about. Cap Space is only valuable when you are looking to add to your roster, or to re-sign players. Next year with Mantha and Larkin being RFA's and JT being a UFA (maybe) that is when I want Holland to possibly trade players or consider buyouts. With that being said, I am open to trades now for certain players (ie. E or Nielsen).
