Can't disagree with that. Not moving out Blashill IMO is the biggest mistake made this season. Hopefully Blashill surprises us all and ups his game this year. Anyone know how many years he has left on his deal? Is this year 3 of 3? Or does he have more years left?

Not to mention, if anyone is going to be traded, its going to be AA.
-
Just because a Rasmussen has similar characteristics to another player who didn't develop the way we hoped, doesnt mean that Rasmussen is going to go down the same path. Not saying he was the best pick (I admit I wanted Vilardi), but Holland cant say "I dont want Rasmussen because Sheahan was a flop".

You just wrote this exact same post in another thread......like I said in that thread, with LTIR we should be fine.
-
From what I read, AA is protected to get 1.25mil, so even if that is off by 500K we should still be fine once someone inevitably goes onto LTIR. Plus, can't you go 10% over the cap for a period of time? I remember reading that on here this month. We were not "screwed" we are going to be fine. Right off the top of my head, I am pretty sure Sproul will not be ready to start the season.

I Really like this contract! Sure I would prefer a lower cap hit, but at 4 years I am happy.
-
If it's everybody, thats usually more a reflection of coaching then the players.
-
Ya that did happen, I remember that as well. But for a goalie that is quite conman as they typically take a bit longer to develop
-
Jimmy became a full time starting goaltender at 25, that is not that late for a goalie. Can you provide something to back these claims up? Based on your "whiny" comment, I am prompted to believe this is an emotional based post opposed to a factual post.

But aren't most shorthanded goals due to a mistake at the blue line that lead to a fast break? A player around the net is not going to stop a shorthanded goal.

Ya personally I dont want a tank job, but I don't like how many vets/long term contracts they have. If I was the GM I wouldnt have signed Helm, not because I hate the contract, but because collectively with the other contracts it's too much. I wouldn't have signed Abby for 7 years (would have offered 5 max), I wouldn't have signed Nielsen, and I would have offered Glendenning closer to 1.2 mil per year. I think there is a way to re-build on the fly, but you have to take some risk.

Lose 6-1 they will empty quicker. Again, not defending their thinking, i'm trying to explain it.
-
Not arguing this, but when people go to the other extreme its equally as ridiculous. I agree for the most part with what you are saying.
-
The better the player I tend to agree, but when you are dealing with good or average players I think it's all about timing and it can easily bite them in the ass.

Ok, please understand that I was trying to give you the perspective of ownership from a business sense. When I used the word "compete" I was not implying we were contenders last year, I was not implying that we were even good, I was implying that on most nights we competed (ie. 1 goal games, OT games, etc.) When you are junk and begin to lose games 4-1, 5-0 etc etc. all the time, that will effect attendance, hence my comment as to why Illitch likely doesn't want a complete tear down and why they insist on keeping vets. Again, not defending anything, trying to look at it through their eyes.
-
I think it's more then that, say what you want about the Wings but they did "compete" this year. A tear down/rebuild/tank job would likely make us legit bad (ie. Colorado), and from a corporate standpoint, lets not fool ourselves and think that they don't want to make money. If the team got to that level of bad, and didn't get out of it, it could mean losses (financially speaking) for a very long time. This is more so why I think ownership is hesitant to go in another direction, it's not being "content", it wanting to make money. I went to 10 games last year, they were pretty much sold out every game with maybe the exception of a couple.
-
Some do, but it rarely is a positive thing for the franchise.
-
What do you expect from Illitch? A public comment about Holland "warning" him? It is very possible Illitch is behind everything Holland is doing, it's also possible he has warned Holland. We don't know, and its not the owners responsibility to tell the fans how he/she feels.
-
And this is what you get when a person takes possession metrics to an extreme. Not even worth debating.
-
Well that is different, if he signed an extension I agree.
-
You would trade our 1st round pick for a rental when we are not a contender? And you rip into Holland lol. This means if he doesnt make the Wings, he has to pass through waivers like last year....right?
-
That wasn't my implication, of course Tatar will not be on a PTO in one year unless something drastic happens. My point was that if Tatar goes to arbitration for a 1 year deal and passes on a long term contract (like Franson) he could end up costing himself a lot more money in the long run. All it takes is an injury or a down year and your value can plummet in the NHL, and with Tatar being pretty one dimensional, I could see that happening to him. There is a reason why players like to sign extensions in such a physical game.
-
This isn't directed at solely you by any stretch, but is this going to be a thing now? Are we going to pretend like things such as character and leadership are worthless? I agree that a team needs to find a balance between skill, character, style, and chemistry but to act like character is a joke and that Holland is an idiot for valuing it is just wrong. I agree with the notion that if you have all character and no skill your team will get killed, but I feel this is just another instance of fans who are upset with Holland finding anything to rip him for. If you just want to rip Holland, he has made a ton of mistakes, its not hard.
-
Holland offered that, Tatar said no. Not much you can do when the player either wants to be paid big money, or is going to walk. I think Holland should stand pat, and hope Tatar signs a deal like you stated at the last minute. If he does't, so be it. Trade him.
