If it was possible, I would much rather trade for Trouba a kid who is going to be a stud in this league then draft a guy who COULD be a good player. Unless there is a can't miss prospect available, I say trade the pick to Winnipeg for Trouba prior to the expansion draft.

I don't believe Vanek will ever go for a 1 year deal. Too many teams will want his services for him to go for that unless it's to a contender, or for a very high price.

Like Kickazz said, its a team effort. One person is not 100% responsible for anything in sports. When Holland was first on the wings, we was a member of the management team, in 1998, he become the leader of that team. To say, this was all because of Haken, that was Holland, this was Nill, that was Bowman etc. etc. etc. is nothing but speculation on your part. You don't know because you were not in the room when these players were discussed. You clearly are saying everything you can to tell the narrative of "Holland had nothing to do with anything" which is just BS. If you are unhappy with some of the moves he has made over the past few years, I 100% get it. To dismiss every accomplishment he has ever had is just wrong.
-
Well this is ironic.
-
100% agree with you, I would just add Filip Hronek in that convo since we we got 2 picks for the 1.
-
Considering before he was GM he was Director of Amateur Scouting, he likely had to do with a lot of the guys drafted on the 97 team.
-
Well....game 1 without Nyquist and we were shutout. Not saying that he is our entire offense or anything even close to that, but I do feel he is a bit undervalued around here.
-
OR you bring in a new coach who actually utilizes his players properly, and then trade them when that have some value. I don't believe that all of our players broke at the same time.
-
I can't tell if you are trolling, or if you honestly believe that a sample size of 3 teams over a period of 3, 4 and 11 games is concrete evidence statistically speaking. If it's the first, I am not going to engage, if it's the latter, its pointless to debate with you. Out of curiosity, did Florida get better? You forgot to mention them in your deep analysis. I will say this, if you have a bad coach and you hire a better coach, or if you have a coach that losses the room and you hire one who the players listen to, then sure making a coaching change is likely a good move. Your statement "doesn't everyone see it doesn't matter who you replace coach with 99% of time it works!!" flat out says is that it doesn't matter who you replace a coach with, things will get better which is one of the most incorrect statements I have ever read on this board. Look at our own team, we replaced Babs with Blashill and we regressed big time. Year after year teams go through coaching changes for a variety of reasons, sometimes they get better, sometimes they stay the same, sometimes they regress. To say you will get any of these particular results 99% of the time is just wrong on so many levels.
-
lol ok. I'm not claiming he did or didnt, I 100% admit I have no idea. You are talking as if you have an inside source.
-
Who is your source Frank? How do you know Holland has not spoken to any of these coaches??? *edit* Just read all of CRL posts saying the same thing. I figured this was just Frank making things up again.
-
Exactly, which is what brings his value up. The guy wants to cash in this offseason, what better way then to kill it in the playoffs. Look what a good playoff run did for Bickell as just one example. Can't say I agree with the 3rd liner comment. Right now Chicago has Richard Panik, Nick Schmaltz, and Artem Anisimov in their top 6. Vanek makes that top 6 if he's on Chicago and you dont get much better then Chicago.
-
This isnt even close to true. There are so many examples of firing a coach leading to a team regression.
-
Why do you feel Vanek will get a "minimal return"? I'm sorry, but this sounds like "woe is me" type of thinking. Last year Roman Polak and Nick Spalling got 2 second round picks. There is no reason to think that Vanek will not net us a good return.

The Habs are a team that rely on their Hart winning goaltender, and rightfully so. They went from first to worst to first again which perfect coincided with Price playing. I'm not denying other issues, my point is that when you have a goalie like Price, because of his amazing play it hides glaring issues that would otherwise have a spotlight on them.
-
Is that what we are calling bad moves now lol. Take away Carey Price and this team is nothing special, just look at last season.

The article says "Holland said he talked “numerous times” to Arizona general manager John Chayka, who operates one of the few low-budget teams in the NHL. Around pick 13 Friday, when Arizona's target pick of Jakob Chychrun was still available, Chayka contacted Holland and the deal was swung." All this tells me is that Chayka contacted Holland first the night of the draft. The way you tell it, is that Chayka laid out every aspect of the deal and Holland simply said "OK". Long story short, none of know what was said on the phone and none of know who brought what terms to the table. So we gave up a chance to pick Jakob Chychrun to pick up Dennis Cholowski, Filip Hronek and unload Datsyuk's contract. Hopefully one of Cholowski or Hronek turn out better then Chychrun.

The only way they could prove it would be if someone was dumb enough to put it in writing (ie. an email) or the GM told too many people, but even that is hearsay.
-
If a team and a player are dumb enough to get caught, sure there will be ramifications. I really doubt though that any team will actually get caught.
-
Us making the playoffs vs us obtaining Crosby are not even in the same realm of possibility. Like I said, I dont think we are making the playoffs, but to say we have no chance is not true, unless it's what you are hoping for, then it's just wishful thinking.
-
If you want to keep him, trade him and then re-sign him in the offseason after the expansion draft.

Rumors with the Tigers were that when DD wanted to sell, Mike Illitch was pissed and fired him. Rumors also were out their that Chris Illitch wanted to sell this past off season in regards to the Tigers. The reason why I bring this up, is now that Chris Illitch has full control over the team, does this mean we are more likely going to become sellers? Personally, I do. Say what you want about Holland, but if Illitch tells him to sell, he's selling. I think what made Mike Illitch great was his drive to always put together the best team possible, selling assets just doesn't mesh with that. If Mike was still owner, I think we stand pat. I will flat out say that I respect Illitch for that type of thinking as it is what led to us being so great for so long, so please do not misinterpret this, but with that being said I think most think right now would agree that we need to sell some piece,s and I think with Chris now in charge it is more likely to happen.
-
I think you need to look up the definition of the word literally. Also, an 8-2 run likely would put us in the playoffs or damn close. As it stands right now we are 8 points out with 2 less games played then Boston. We win those two games and we are 4 out, add in an 8-2 run, and we are likely in. Do I think that's going to happen, of course not, but I don't believe in hyperbole so you will never see me saying 0% chance. Anyone who says ZERO percent chance is basing their opinion on emotion and is likely just pissed off.
-
Saying this teams has "NO CHANCE" at making the playoffs, is just as silly as saying "ITS HAPPENING!". Probability is definitely against the Wings, and personally I think they are not going to make it, but mathematically speaking it can happen. This is not the "optimist", in me, this is just looking at the situation and taking all emotion out, I think the same thing about every single team in the East. Parity in the NHL is crazy now a days, just look at our games, pretty much every game we play is a 1 goal game. If we were as bad as some poster think, we would be blown out every game. Long story short, any team in the east (especially our division) goes on a 8-2 10 game run, and they are right back in it.

There is no point for me to go back and forth with you, in the end what you said I agree with so let's leave it at that.
