That entire article made me feel like punching someone in the crotch. I don't know who that someone is yet, but boy howdy is that someone gonna get it when I figure it out...

The NHL's 50 Greatest Non-North American Players
BottleOfSmoke replied to thegerkin's topic in General
Well I guess we know where the Bleacher Report stands on the Red Wings Greatest Russian debate... -
Please don't remind me. I'm going to have to rely on streamed Griffs and Spirit games just to keep from going insane...

Stan Bowman and Al Arbour have a daughter together?! I never would have guessed there was something going on between those two... In more on topic news, no one famous ever came from my home town. NO ONE.

I was just coming here to post this. Definitely interesting...and by interesting I mean childish and ridiculous.

I agree it's a combination of both the team and the players. For me, my allegiance lies primarily with the team as players come and go over the years, some of whom I follow and some I don't. That being said, if the NHL wanted to ice some sham lockout team and call it the Detroit Red Wings, they can bite me.
-
I just can't get over all the bad faith negotiating. I would take the owners bitching about contract lengths and ridiculous monetary compensation much more seriously if they weren't at the same time negotiating ridiculously long contracts with salary-cap skirting front loaded compensation. I know they want to ice a winning team and they feel that the current climate necessitates these contracts in order to secure the players, but they might as well be dealing in monopoly money signing deals with players they know they will never have to pay out on due to "rollbacks" or "escrow" or however they want to spin it.

I think that regardless of how you match up their stats, an argument can be made for either Dats or Feds, which is why I feel this is a largely subjective, and again, sentimental poll. I love Dats, and am honored that he plays on my team. That being said, to me this isn't something I can be swayed on. To *me*, Feds is the best.
-
Forgive my over-sentimentality (is that a word?), but for me it is hands down Feds. I used to love watching him just *skate*. He was one of those players that if you disguised him in every way--no number or name on the jersey, face obscured, etc--I could still tell who it was just by the way he moved on the ice. Maybe it's because I was younger and more impressionable, but I agree with The Nephilim that you just would get a feeling that awesomeness was about to ensue when he would step on the ice.

@dchesnokov: Teemu Selanne's latest blog post titled "What's wrong, Gary Bettman?" via @MaStrozyk http://t.co/b8qFVl9K ...anybody know Finnish? Edit: Looks like there's a translation over on hfboards.

@Proteautype: THIS JUST IN: A fleet of New York City firemen have been dispatched to fight a raging pants fire at NHL headquarters. Normally I think Proteau is kind of a d**che (though that doesnt keep me from agreeing with him occasionally), but this made me LOL.

"the National Hockey League has been, and remains, committed to negotiating around the clock to reach a new CBA" BULLS***. If they were comitted to negotiating around the clock, then they would be, you know, NEGOTIATING AROUND THE CLOCK. There was absolutely NO urgency to any of the talks, or they would have been burning the midnight oil for months to avoid the current situation, not throwing around the word LOCKOUT with a month to go in negotiations. Good faith my lily white ass. Excuse me while I go rage some more...

I hate everything right now. Does anyone know of a good source to watch the Griffs games streaming online? Might as well get to know our prospects better while I'm being denied my Wing fix. As much as I would love to give a big middle finger to the entire league and pledge that they will never get another cent out of me, the reality is that I've bled this team since I was a kid, and I just can't imagine turning my back on that. It will certainly affect my decision to spend money on gear and things I don't need, but my ass will still be in the seats for whatever games I actually get this year. One of those hopefully being the Winter Classic. I can only hope that the public disgust at the behavior of both the league--and now, increasingly, the players--will put some pressure on them to come to an agreement before too much of the season (and fan loyalty) is destroyed. And I realize how naive that sounds as I literally laughed out loud at myself as I typed it. Whatever.

This is part of what infuriates me--is he *trying* to come across as such an insufferable douchebag? If so, to what end? If I were an owner, I would want to be represented by someone who could communicate effectively and be perceived by the players and public as competent and in charge--not a smarmy, weasely bully with a Napolean complex. I just don't get how he still has a job.

Apparently talk of a lockout has made Emmerton lose his mind.. @DetroitRedWings: READ: @Cemmer48 talks changing his number (and Twitter hanlde) from 48 to 25. http://t.co/4ucJgjoS http://t.co/9Z3ieMMn @cemmer48: Btw @D_Mac25 I was thinking of starting a band called Grinder, wanna be the lead singer? @D_Mac25: @cemmer48 here's the deal u can have my jersey # just stay away from my 19 yr old daughter & I'll sing for the band if you play the keyboard Maybe I'm overly sensitive with general hockey related rage thanks to the impending lockout, but I don't like this one bit! 25 belongs to Mac, baby!

I want to kidnap them all, lock them in a room together with no food, water, or bathrooms, and place armed guards outside the door with instructions to not let anyone in or out until a signed CBA is in place. Every four hours a rabid skunk will be let into the room. Every 6 hours Celine Dion will serenade them with "My Heart Will Go On. " Every 8 hours they will have to watch "The Miracle of Birth. " Every 10 hours they will have to eat haggis.
