Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals
joesuffP replied to PavelValerievichDatsyuk's topic in General
Hopefully they can get longer term at 5.5M before arbitration. I think that's fair. 1 year deal and Tatar's value drops significantly -

I think that may be a type of plastic you can stride on. I remember when I played hockey they had this treadmill that you could actually skate on -
5.5M AAV @ 4 years is a fair deal for both sides imo

Can't believe Holland waved this next superstar it's hossa all over again

Red Wings sign D Trevor Daley to 3 year, 3.166m/yr contract, includes NTC/Modified NTC.

Ya why get this worked up for this of all things. I'm at least giving Holland the chance to see if he fails before I start freaking out about every minor move. The players with any kind of potential are in their first and second years and no serious defense prospects have even played an NHL game yet -

Lmao we don't even have young defensemen to play for us. Literally nobody in the system is being held back because of this signing. This conversation just goes in circles with people bashing Holland for what he may hypothetically do. The rebuild on the fly is happening whether you like it or not. Complaining about a stop gap defensmen that's cheap is such a minuscule problem in the grand scheme of things it's ridiculous this can cause such outrage for so long -

I was just saying, meant no offense. Personally think they've done a pretty good job of it. Rarely see any player Holland let walk turn into something substantial on any other team besides Eaves and of course... Hossa Funny Hossa's LTIR situation makes the Franzen comparison continue -

People are basically questioning management ability to judge their young players. Sproul not making this very weak lineup just shows where he stands within the organization. Personally rather have an established defensmen where we know what we're getting until the prospects are ready to jump into the NHL. Being an absolute train wreck on D will hold the team back and also won't help the Young D learn when they are just handed positions they don't deserve. Wings don't have a problem letting players work through their struggles as they learn if they see potential. Just look at Smith. He was terrible until he hit the prime of his career which is arguably a 20 point defensmen. Says a lot about Sproul -
The defense is going to be wide open in 2-3 years. A lot of flexibility

A 32 year old with some value and interest from other teams isn't just gonna sign a 1 year deal let's be realistic people -

Isn't Witkowski just a goon? -
I just don't see a future for Sproul with the Red Wings but who knows, maybe Ericsson gets bought out and surprises everyone. I'd rather Sproul being the 7th D but I don't think he's earned a regular spot in the lineup Weird. I think it's pretty clear now that Holland will be adding a cheaper defensmen of some sort
-
I wouldn't be mad at this on opening night Dekeseyer-Green Ouellette-Campbell Kronwall-Jensen Ericsson
-
If Dan Giardi would sign for around 3.5M for 1 or 2 years how would that hurt the future of the team. Once Green left he'd be our #1 defensemen. That's pretty sad but playing all our young bottom six defenders all year and watching them crash and burn isn't good for anyone. I feel our young players will develop better on a team with structure. Everyone looks bad when you roll out a defense like that and then it has a dominos effect where all our assets have become worthless in a matter of one year. I blame the defense... maybe coaching. But I've yet to see a defense roster as bad as the red wings last year
-
High end prospects don't need to play in the AHL but we don't have any of those. Seeing Svechnikov up with the big club already should show you the team is willing to change its philosophy People need to lower their expectations during the first real year of a rebuild. You expect high end talent when we are drafting in the top 10 for the very first year. Rebuilds aren't seamless transitions it's an ugly process. Once our young D prospects start to develop and we shed some bad contracts fans outlook will be a lot different... I for one appreciate trying to stay competitive and taking the moral high ground whenever possible but I can see how some don't

I have no problem adding a stop gap vet at 1 or 2 years. Just means Ericsson becomes a healthy scratch most nights. Regarding Sproul I don't think the organization is going to suddenly have faith in him and let him figure things out with the Wings. He'll get a few looks but he'll have to really impress to become a regular
-
I don't think Holland is dumb enough to offer more than 2 years on those vet defenders
-
Theirs ppl that are going to ***** and moan about every pick. Very vocal when theirs doubt... unexistent when he becomes a player to be excited about. Mantha 2.0 imagine thinking some internet dweller knows more about a prospect that an NHL franchise
-
And it's not like Howard had a sore groin and missed time. Jensen barreled into him very awkwardly any goalie would have been hurt in that situation
-
Tippett the kind of coach that can work with the GM and have a hand in creating a roster. Would be a good move imo. Build the culture!
-
It was likely a mixture of all things. Rewarding Howard, sending Mrazek a message, and knowing that Vegas wouldn't likely claim Mrazek
