offensive insticts are worthless to babcock... its all about intangibles in all fairness this roster is a mess... time to make tough decisions and part with some effective forwards for a capable d man... If lashoff never plays another NHL game we're in good shape... Ouellette has to be a staple of this team it's getting ridiculous. Our forwards have developed perfectly into NHL scorers but we have yet to see a defensemen develop into an effective player since........kronwall? ericsson? DD walked onto this team better then half our dmen that in itself is another shot to our defensive growth

the worst part about helm is he doesn't pass... if he played like abdelkader he'd be twice the player... weiss would have twice the success with any other coach than babcock abdelkader and helm's life goals should be give the puck to nyquist/datsyuk and drive the net.... more pucks would enter the net. I find it so sad that Nyqvist never gets the puck in the attacking zone unless he pulls some miraculous move and does it all alone. Every time he has time and space in the offensive zone the puck is always on it's way in the net. We got a guy with 30 goal potential that has to skate the puck in from the centre line to get a shot on net

well yeah that would help. I just look at Rick Nash and most of his goals are bounces off his body because he drives the net so hard

Helm could have an extra 5+ goals if he focused on driving the net with his speed

Smith just needs to play with a norris calibre defensemen then he won't be a liability everytime he's on the ice, he's just that good

We are a fine line from losing 9 straight games. Probably didn't deserve a W against Ottawa and needed a miraculous comeback to beat the lowly Sabres. Coupled with the fact we probably just played the worst game of the season. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom but there is nothing to be optimistic about right now. No reason we can't do what Toronto did last year and play ourselves out of a playoff spot especially considering we are playing some truly dreadful hockey

I don't know if its the defense roster as a whole or just how truly terrible Quincey, Lashoff and sometimes Smith are but that was some of the most embarrassing hockey I've watched this year. Ericsson and Kronwall-steady but not great, but ericsson is coming off one of the worst games I've ever seen him play, expected way more out of him.

These defensive pairings are a joke. Stick the turds together and limit their minutes. Its the best you can hope for when your roster sucks. Quincey and Lashoff haven't made a positive play all game that's about the 25th cross check to datsyuk

howard stopped the puck behind the net and we had a man on the puck and he just rifles it into the corner to nobody

That whole sequence was because of howard deciding the corner was a better place to put the puck than his own mans stick

Our offence can compete with anybody in the league night in night out.... our defense has to play the best hockey of their life for us to compete against good teams

Kindl-Quincey made a decent bottom pairing when we were playing good hockey. Quincey becomes a staple of the top 4 and the defense goes to hot garbage

Helm is a puck hog, Franzen doesn't want to be anywhere near the puck and nobody can get Nyqvist the puck. That's some great use of our best goal scorer

Hard to blame Howard when the defense is absolutely atrocious. I could care less about the score at this point. The defensive play these last two games is a huge red flag for me. I love that Lashoff is in, makes a whole lot of sense. Maybe try scratching someone who hasn't gotten the message all year, or at least change these pairings that have been etches in stone since they limped there way into the playoffs every year since Lidstrom left. Other teams get more out of their defense with less talent
