Got to think with the kids starting to mature that the power play will improve. Having a capable power play nets us like 35+ extra goals at least a year. Tatar, Sheahan and Jurco's numbers can only go up at this point ( assuming they stay relatively healthy) The team has to stress the importance of having a consistent power play. It was one of our major causes for losing games last year.

I have to think holland offered Tatar the same contract as Nyquist. Tatar May think he deserves a bit more having shown he can score in a full NHL season. Or maybe he thinks he should be getting a lot more like consistent 20 goal scorers in the NHL

Tatar should only expect to get the same contract as Nyquist

I would lock DD up for 5+ years with a deal that will most likely be a steal in the last couple years

I'd give DD 5 years at 4mil ish maybe overpay and let him grow into his contract. Tatar probably thinks he should be getting paid perennial 20 goal scorer money

It would be very unwise to trade Jurco. He's the only top six potential guy with size. I'm sure holland wouldn't trade him for that reason

Probably next year would be a better time to make a trade. Our forwards will be worth more and we'll have a much better idea what our young d men can do. Around the league the only guys teams want from us is Nyquist, Mantha and our third line

The guy has won at all levels. An NHL rookie playing for Sweden in the gold medal game. A big part of Calder cup win. 28 goals in his shortened rookie season. All in a matter of two years. This guy could be a special player in the league. If he was bigger everyone would be all over him and think he's going to be a superstar. I'll be happy with him continuing to prove ppl wrong and fly under the radar. Much like this Datsyuk fella

Young players are going to be inconsistent. But having a guy that can step into the league in his first year and nearly score 30 is something special. Nyquist looked good as well the goals weren't flukes he's playing the game the right way. If he can get stronger and smarter then he can be a consistent 25 goal scorer. Not every elite team has a consistent 40-45 goal scorer

Why can't Nyquist, under a whole season (if healthy) score 20-25 goals? Our entire rookie 3rd line should at least match their last year totals. Where are we exactly losing production? Even if we have a freak injury plagued season the totals should be matched. Without going through 25 games with Cleary, Bertuzzi and Samuelsson taking up roster spots from our most productive players The fat is trimmed offensively. We may be a bit too lean sometimes but it looks a lot nicer then opening day last year

We are retooling. Nobody in management expects to win the cup with this roster but they will go out and try to win. Getting the #5 seed is not a huge stretch

Tank it would mean trading Datsyuk. This roster can finish a 5th seed as is

Quincey is better than Kindl, Lashoff and through most of the season, better then Smith. Every low tier defensemen we bring in is a disaster trying to learn babcocks system anyways. I'd rather this Quincey deal then that reported 3 years to robidas. He's overpaid but it doesn't matter it's not like we will be in a cap crunch

Can't compare teams that have a bunch of top 5 draft picks. We just had our highest since 91. We never started with guys like Kane, Toews and Doughty. Things were way rougher for them before there success as well. If we can get back to elite without becoming a bottom feeder then Holland is a genius

Wait until we stockpile enough talent that are truly expendable to our team to make a trade. Tatar is the only guy with value I can see us being okay with losing (just because we have a better, more well rounded small forward)

Quincey>Lashoff, Kindl Cap hit is pretty much irrelevant since nobody wants our money. 2 years kind of stings. He had us by the balls but this deal hardly holds us back from improving

These players entertained the idea of being a red wing until the last minute so it can't be that bad of a situation. It is troublesome though. I think we're just going to have trade for a franchise d man. Somebody that is fine with the pressure of being the #1 guy. Niskanen and Boyle chose these destinations because they felt they had a better chance to win and they would take a pay cut. Less pressure to be the #1 offensive guy I just want our kids to prove everyone wrong and show that there is a major upswing of young talent here that can win. That and Mantha turns into the second coming of Gretzky

A new low for the red wings. We have a terrible roster as is with a guarantee of injury problems. This is a team thrown together with backup plans and it certainly showed last year. Jimmy will get eaten up again because of how ridiculously bad our defense is and his career will be over and we'll be stuck with his contract that nobody will touch.

Maybe nobody likes to play for babs. Everyone that comes here drastically underperforms and has to change their game around completely. Especially an offensive defensemen In all honesty. In order to start fresh and chime in a new era I think babs and holland both should go. Holland getting replaced by Nill would have been the best situation.

Holland is not going to be our GM when we get back to being a contender. The defense is worse then last year. How do you allow that to happen

Dekeseyer isnt a franchise d man either. Especially if he spends his career playing with Quincey and Smith. Our defense is garbage thrown together with no thought. That should have been square one when Lidstrom left but were staring at the same burning garbage 4 years later

Holland still looking for defensemen to help with the loss of Lidstrom who retired 4 years ago. Holland hasn't accomplished anything since he left and defensemen have been flying all over the league
