Booth is actually terrible watch a lot of Canucks games. Do not want

Abdelkader will be such a good role player once we get a real top 6 with some size. He's filling a need right now. I think a lot of teams would be interested in him though
-
I think we need a high energy 4th liner though. We have a lot of bottom sixers with young guys getting chances so maybe we can upgrade there. Helm and Abdelkader are the only bottom sixers I wouldn't trade Top six players won't get moved unless another top six player or top 4 defender comes back
-
I'd keep smith with kronwall. Much more dynamic first pairing and good for his development. I think kronwall is very underrated and Ericsson is overrated. Top pairing will be fine with anyone playing with kronwall. And by fine I mean competent compared to the rest of our defensive unit

Ahh the old showing up to play homage that LGW bestows on players that apparently Babcock hasn't noticed. We're a much worse team without Franzen. I don't get why every player gets a pass on last season when comparing stats (datsyuk, zetterberg) because of our miserable injury plagued season except for Franzen. You don't buy out legitimate top 6 players that have good contracts. LGW: "we need two more top 6 players. Let's buy out Franzen and just buy 3 more. It's been really easy to acquire talent lately"

Tootoo can't play in the NHL. Franzen will score 20+ goals.... Which one to buy out? Head scratcher

Signed Wings sign Tomas Nosek to 2 year entry level deal

I have no problem with signing as many of these no risk entry level deals as they can -

Rangers defended playing like ours can't handle a forecheck giving the puck up all over the ice Staal looks like Quincey out there -
Holland has to be inquiring
-
Franzen is actually quite good defensively
-
Boyle seems like a red wings guy and sharks will be looking for a change. Our blue line needs another veteran presence especially on the PP. Somebody who at least looks like he knows what he's doing when he has the puck
-
I can't see Holland trading any roster players. Last year was a nightmare with us having to find room for our dead weight. Things will be smoother and make a lot more sense this year. I'm most excited to see if Smith can continue to grow into an effective defensemen because that would be huge. Ya know, having 3 of 6 defensemen that can do things on the ice. God, our defense was so bad. Still would like a solid veteran to hold down the bottom pairing. It's not good to have 3 defensemen that could potentially be scratched on any given night.

Ya I never had a problem with Glendening. He'll only get better as an agitator. My problem with Babs lines most of the time is that he just goes with Size/Grit-Playmaker-Shooter for every line and forces it down our throat even when it doesn't work for 5+ games. Sometimes players just play well with others and its not about having a formula. So we end up with one guy on each line that appears to be playing well and dragging around some dead weight so all our lines are ineffective instead of at least having 1 or 2 lines really competing
-
I think it will work out perfectly replacing Babcock with Blashill. I love Babs and think he's a great coach but this is a new era of Red Wings. Hopefully no more unexplained man crushes develop because it was starting to get a little weird there

what is maclennen talking about? that move is innovative? That move had been washed up 4 years ago. It was a clear breakaway goal on a terrible goalie in a blowout game Great goals are against great players and where the player makes quick instinct moves. not something every player has been practicing since peewee The one where datsyuk did the same thing was far more impressive even though he didn't score. It was against the coyotes in the playoffs and datsyuk was flying full speed with a couple guys hanging off him and he was able to do the between the legs move because that was the only play that would allow him to get a shot off. it was saved but somebody potted the rebound
-
Yes we had a whole new level of inexperience in the playoffs that we're not used to. I just think all the injuries and how many games we've had where the team appeared completely out of gas has something to do with preparation. Too many guys thinking they can get away with not putting in the hard work in the off season, practice and weight room. I don't see anybody talk about any of our guys being a beast training wise like Stamkos and other elite players

Watching The Canadiens series against the Bruins makes me even more frustrated. This is a team with smaller forwards than us but are prepared to hit and battle in front of the net. We were a team scared. Not prepared to battle in front of the net or block shots. Seemed like a team not expecting to win. Most teams have four guys around there goalie every time they freeze the puck but we were being outnumbered by bruins. Just a team not willing to pay the price to win. Being near the bottom of the league in blocked shots and hits is not a roster problem, it's a problem with a compete level. Hitting takes effort and can wear you down but it's effective and it's easy to see how we are a lot more successful when our guys are willing to play the body. I'd like to see how the teams weight training sessions go cause as it seems Helm and Abdelkader seem like the only guys hitting the weights hard. It's all about our young guys learning from the vets and I doubt Alfie, Zetterberg (still great leader) are setting examples in the weight room. That's what were missing is a guy like Chelios. A guy that motivates these guys to stay in the weight room longer. Seems like preparation is very casual compared to our elite years

would love hanzal

People with sense knew this

Tootoo is actually useless to this team Not interested in signing Legwand for 5M to be our 4th line center Weiss can turn out to be a real disaster though

Franzen is counted on heavily to produce for us. Especially with the huge amount of injuries that happen every year. If Franzen was in Hossa's shoes playing on a stacked top 6 with a great defense his numbers would be close to Hossa's. The numbers for our whole team suck because we have nobody that can stay healthy on a team with some glaring weaknesses. If we had a team like 08 I bet Franzen's numbers would shoot back up. This team is built with thrown away pieces and slapped together with no thought other than Babcock arranging this mess in lines that could make sense. To me it appears like Holland has been buying time these last few years and I really hope he has a plan because the future looks ugly
-
I think it's a Babcock-Franzen thing. I could see him having success with a new coach. I see a lot of our guys being more productive with another coach but I still think he's a good coach just some players can't play his style
-
Still holland hasn't made a single good deal in 3 years. He appears to have no plan for the future for our forwards and has already failed our future blue line. Plus he has overpaid our homegrown guys. Getting over market value to stay with the team that drafted you and ensuring a mediocre squad for years to come. If we didn't have good scouting and drafting we would be the buffalo sabres.
-
I agree Ericsson is over paid. He hustled us because we absolutely needed him. So much for hometown discount. If we ever get a true top pairing defensemen to play with Kronwall, Ericsson would look like a run of the mill average 2nd pairing guy but thankfully he's paid like a top line defensemen for many years. I'm starting to think holland will be gone before we get a real defensemen and this bothers me. Howard is overpaid when he plays at the top of his game which is 25 percent of the time not even. Holland has handed out some terrible contracts. I'm all aboard the holland hate train. This guys track record the last 4 years is brutal.
