Loved everything about that game. At times they were completely dominant with their relentless puck pursuit. That's going to be key for this season. They have something they're good at They do get rattled at times and make some dumb mistakes with the puck but overall the D looked a lot better
-
That is all speculation ^^ I think the wings nosedive and Blashill gets fired. Team responds but still not good enough for a playoff spot. Holland makes room for our guys out of waiver options and we finally take a step forward next year
-
I'm not seeing much in Sheahan. From the first two games what I've noticed are the wings biggest problems is transitioning and in zone defense. Getting the puck back and winning battles, keeping plays alive
-
I think the defense is so bad right now the forwards aren't getting a shot to show what they can do offensively. Having said that I think all 5 men need to be better in their own end getting the puck back and exiting the zone efficiently. We may need to get back to dumping the puck in and forechecking hard. We looked good in the first period against Tampa doing this

Either Blashill's system isn't working or players aren't responding. In zone defense is brutal. Zero pressure on the points and losing every battle down low. DD is supposed to be an 'elite shutdown defenseman' he has the size and got paid but he's getting turned inside out and losing battles all over the ice. If he keeps logging these big minutes his numbers are going to look embarrassingly bad for his contract Babs was good at finding a way to compete every night with an outmatched team. Blashill needs to get creative because his system hasn't worked going on two years now. Haven't liked his coaching at all

So your just going to follow me around and post about me passive aggressively. It's not that serious

The same people mad that Mantha and AA don't have room on the roster want to keep Pulkinnen and Jurco

Sheahan is a career bottom six player. Has not been able to elevate his game in three years -
20 goals? Puleeease

Ericsson did well in that fight. Negated the penalty but I'm happy he did it. IMO E and Ouellette are a decent bottom pair -
Second line tho hmm... did not see top six in Nestrasil's future at all

Watching Fowler last night and he is a calm and collective player. Also has a bomb from the point. I hope Holland trades for him ASAP. Would be the wings best defenseman -

Officials didn't help us out when the wings had control. PK was brutal. Mrazek needs to be better. Defense needs to be better with the puck. In zone defense from all 5 players needs to be better. Stupid penalties In zone offense looked good when they were able to get up ice efficiently. Once Tampa started dumping it and getting on the defense the wings had no answer. Coming up ice is a huge struggle this defense hasn't learned to break a forecheck -

PK was the undoing, especially losing so many key face offs. Good excuse to get AA in the lineup. That kind of PKing is unacceptable and also Mrazek has to be better. Not a good game from him Still a huge struggle coming up ice and the defense still gave up a lot of big plays. Looking like one of the worst defense groups in the league I think our forwards can make plays and score but their not getting the puck efficiently and they can't play defense A lot of holes on this team. Yeah the defense is awful but the forwards have got to be a lot better in their own zone -

Not a lot to be happy about this game. Ouellette was good In zone defense is just terrible. Penalty killers blew it. Time to bring in AA -
Pulkinnen and Jurco suck so yes I'd take our fourth line. Glendening actually outscores both of them while playing as a shut down center lets not forget we've yet to play a game and AA is with the big team. I think out of that fourth line Glendening is the only lock to be playing every night and deservedly so. Blash's comments on line usage and playing time appears to be all positive. The M-G-O line lit it up in preseason and deserves a chance to start the season
-
So Glendening's point totals and plus minus are now irrelevant because his possession numbers are bad pens never had 4 scoring lines they won with a balanced top 9. That's not to say that the only recipe for success in the NHL either. Kings won two years ago they had defensive players shockingly. Every year fans think there is some recipe for success in the NHL just because a team won a cup with a certain strategy or build the most recently. Btw not saying possession isn't important but Corsi numbers have fundamental flaws when compared with sheltered and shut down players...like obviously honestly I think match up hockey is the new thing in today's NHL and especially in the playoffs. Allows lesser teams to have a chance to win a series with lesser talent
-
What teams have four scoring lines anyways? Where is this notion coming from that the league has left us behind? Holland and management are only protecting our promising young players. The way you feel about properly developing players may differ. Personally, I think being go to guys in the minors does a lot better then given sheltered, and scarce minutes This board has already deemed the fourth line as the three worst hockey players on earth coming off a very strong preseason. Two years ago Glendening was putting up very strong numbers for a fourth liner. I'm not saying this team doesn't have issues but it's well known. We are rebuilding. It's not going to be a seamless experience. It's funny because a lot of you would like the team to tank but have been crying all off season about these tiny issues compared to the big picture. Just keep thinking about the big picture and stop wasting your energy

Let's just remind everyone that this is all ridiculous speculation just in case somebody reads this and assumes there's any facts involved To read Blashill's comments about AA and having him scratched then jump to this crazy conspiracy that it was all Holland is really ridiculous -

Based on Blashill's quotes he makes it obvious it was his decision. Makes it seem like they'll have roster decisions game in game out -

To be fair if the team was chosen fairly based off training camp then the fourth line deserves to start the season together It's a long season and it's pretty annoying but AA will find his way into the lineup taking out the right player and being in the right situation. This is all Blashill. The last thing Holland wants is a young kid sitting in the press box -
Exactly. People act like this is the end of the world. This is such a small issue when compared to the big picture of building a new core. How Larkin, Mantha, AA, Mrazek and even DD progress is the most important thing for the team right now. Once those guys are established NHLers the team will have way more options then they have in a very long time
-
I'm thinking Ouellette and Sproul will be alternating games to start the season. I've got no clue what Holland does when Kronwall returns. It's time for a bold move
-
It's funny how people are outraged we couldn't trade any of these guys that got waived then they go on to do nothing for the teams that claimed them but that is irrelevant I guess. None of these guys will be sticking around the NHL for long Look at Kindl. Shouldn't we be applauding Holland for snaking Florida? This mess is Holland's fault but it's just a result of desperately trying to make a reasonable trade to upgrade the defense
-
Exactly. Can't win with fans. Holland would have to be a guru to trade guys teams knew we had no room for
