Yeah we had one of the top producing defenses in the league for multiple before lidstrom retired Even in the Ian white days we were one of the top 5 producers from the back end

I think smith is very capable of turning it around in a big way this season. I'll stay optimistic but he hasn't proven he deserves to be on the PP at this point

Yes. I just can't believe we won that series. A lot of guys were terrible... Flippula... Remember his no look behind the net pass in the 3rd period of game 6 that nearly cost us the series

I was watching highlights of when we beat the ducks in 2013 and my god Smith was terrible. We really had no business winning that series Jimmy was sensational that playoff run

I'd like to see Smith on wing if he can't hack it this year. It's worth a shot because If he gets beaten out as a 5/6 defenseman on this team then he will be a complete bust.

I agree with kip. Playing defense has changed a lot these last few years and most of the league has recognized it. The super elite like Doughty and Subban best skills aren't hitting and blocking shots but they play more minutes than anybody for their skating and puck movement. I do realize Subban and doughty do throw some big hits but it's not why their on the ice

From Vancouver and I usually catch a red wings game once a year but am currently working up in northern Alberta. If I'm home I'll definitely try to make it out

Think we ended up second. I'm saying finishing top 3 isn't a guarantee just because we were last year and added a good PP defensemen

I wouldn't bank on our PP being top 3 in the league, even with Green. Special Teams always seem to flip flop for no rhyme or reason

Wouldn't be surprised to see Larkin have a role on the team this season. I think we're about to see a culture shift for The Wings

Couldn't really be a diehard until 07 I think, when gamecenter came out. Now I'm watching all these guys I seen drafted, play in the minors and now make an impact in the NHL. Pretty exciting

I think it would be cool if a goalie of ours used a colour that would really pop against the red jersey. Is their a rule where the goalie mask has to be the same colours of their jersey

I think it's pretty ridiculous people here have forgotten how great Jimmy was before his injury. He was one of the best goalies in the league for a long stretch of the season and most likely would have been a vezina candidate. Having said that, I would welcome some change in goal. Jimmy's stick handling and quite a few head scratching moments kind of infuriate me. Mrazek deserves a big chunk of games to develop. No way Holland is dumb enough to dump Jimmy and go with an unproven goalie. Probably won't do it next year either. Only way is it if is a home run deal and we get a capable backup some other way

No way Jimmy gets moved this season. If Mrazek flat out beats Jimmy for the starting job they might consider moving him in the offseason for a cheap backup. Still unlikely with his contract and value at that point though

Lucic is a meathead and I wouldn't want him on the wings for anything and I'm from Vancouver. He also costs his team by taking selfish penalties and is a coward when it comes to fighting a guy his size

Ppl don't remember how teams used to hate playing against Franzen he was getting hacked and whacked all game for a reason. He really frustrated a lot of guys Size isn't all about being physical. It clears lanes and draws coverage boxes ppl out
