1/25 GDT - Red Wings vs Toronto - 7:00 PM EST
frankgrimes replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in 2016-17
I still have hope that this game was an eye opener for ownership. A young fun to watch team loaded with up and coming stars led by Matthews versus the highest paid team in the league just going through the motions. If I were an owner I would not be happy with that and tell my son or whoever is in full charge of hockey to sell and build towards a new core. Stopped counting the Leafs rookies after 5 man their future is really looking bright if they can add someone for their top pairing with Rieley they'll be dangerous for years to come. -
Players becoming walking billboards like this I guess Sadly hockey is more and more drifting away from being the peoples game
-
Well it's great that he likes the status quo so much the guy can join him, it's time to go scorched earth.
-
seems like the Matthews hysteria wasn't just Toronto that kid is impressive
-
good luck wherever it's nice that people who are unhappy start to speak out. Soon a lot of young people will be in this locker room so you can't welcome them in a poisoned enviroment. If someone offers a 3rd round pick you take that and run

should be a great mentor for the guys in grand rapids

Percent chance of Playoffs or Potential High Pick
frankgrimes replied to AtlantaHotWings's topic in General
Not seeing Nolan, Liljegren was a bit of a bummer but I don't think there's any question that Nolan - if he stays healthy - would be instantly the best rookie and the guy with the best chance to become a number 1 center. It's too bad the Wings missed out on a lot of great drafts because of a streak. Even if it's not a draft with superstars a top 5 pick is hardly something that can go wrong. -
Article from his country I think you will find it here somewhere
-
Tatar wants out so whats the point of keeping him? If someone offers a solid price he's gone
-
Streak has clouded the view on where this team really is for years now, so time to end it and build towards the ultimate goal of winning the cup. in short: longterm gain by short term pain instead of being the highest salary payroll team and still one of the worst in the league
-
I'm still baffled by the fact that the Wings haven't brought in Gallant to help this young rookie coach out in his second season.

With the trade dead line only a few weeks away it's time for Holland to let it be known that everyone is available, so the Wings could get ahead of the pack and start filtering the (hopefully) good offers. It's also important to set high asking prices but at the same time discuss the lowest return you'd trade a guy for. If you can get a first round pick for Vanek of course you take it and run with it but if not a second is still better than nothing, same goes for Green. I don't think there will be a lot of trades but in terms of where this team is headed it should be a very interesting trade dead line because there is no way ownership can be satisfied with the failed rebuild on the fly approach.

This isn't NHL 16 were quantity for quality might work. Think about it the other way, if Murray or Treliving came asking for Larkin would you accept your offer of a pure rental past 30, and a third pairing at best defenseman? No you wouldn't and neither are Murray or Treliving. If Anaheim wants Larkin damn sure I'm asking for Fowler or Lindholm in return. The Wings had all summer and even more to make a trade for Fowler and yet Holland did nothing. Marchenko and company are the usual suspects you throw in in order to get more contracts flexibility but thats about it. Don't want to say goodbye to Larkin or Mantha? Well say goodbye to the likes of Fowler, Hamilton, Lindholm, Trouba ...then not exactly rocket science. Also Vanek would be a terrible fit for the Ducks they aren't a fast team they are big physical grind it out team that's not Vanek's game. Vanek really struggled under Yeo, Therrien imagine him under Carlyle. I've said it many times and I stick by it Green, Vanek, Tatar and company need to be dangled long before the other teams are deciding that their big names are available because if Sakic is keeping his word then Duchene, Landeskog and Barrie might be on the market which obviously puts on top of every contenders list.

Fine if that's your opinion but I don't share it nor do I have a problem with that, unlike you. For the greater good? I'm fine with it, I've seen the rebuild on the fly model it hasn't worked so I'm ready for going Toronto -

Try to tank and in the process get as many picks and prospects for players that aren't part of the future. This season has been bad like very bad and given the fact that this team has the highest payroll in the NHL is just wow...so might as well for the highest possible chance at Patrick. -

Yeah and even then outtanking the Arizona and Colorados of the world will be hard -

Because some people have accepted the reality of the cap and parity world under current rules? Which means in order to become great again each team needs to go down for a few years to (hopefully) collect a bunch of elite picks and built around them. The days of having 1 or 2 steps over everyone else in Sweden, Switzerland, Russia and Finland are over...nowadays each team has a huge scouting stuff worldwide so it's almost! impossible to find gems in the later rounds. The Wings tried to rebuild on the fly but it didn't work ( no elite talents who can carry a franchise like the Crosbys of the world). Why do I watch if I can? Well because I want to see who could be part of the next core and of course the last career years of Zetterberg. As a fan it's my time and I can cheer for everything I want, so the best outcome is guys playing hard but also losing because it means they tried and got closer to a top pick. -
sure while the Wings are at it trade for Marleau too. Vanek is not part of the rebuild so might as well get an asset for him
-
Maybe people are more focused on the "pure" scoring now because stuff that made hockey interesting has been faded out step by step. If Crosby is the only one capable of running away with it, maybe just maybe he is still that much better than his peers. To answer your question: Hockey hasn't become boring because of less scoring it's boring because the good stuff isn't there anymore and thus more people are solely focusing on one aspect of the game.

Well if it's a guy from the Caps, Hawks, Pens and company you are right but are they willing to do it? Not so sure so I would settle on an early second too that's all I'm saying. Being hellbent on getting that first at all costs implies the risk of losing the guy for nothing in the summer. Yeah he is playing well which is great because it increases his trade value and might lead to more teams being interested in his services. Yeah sure let's re-sign another over 30 guy when the team needs less not more veterans. So not sure what some people who would like to bring him back are smoking...maybe the same stuff like the people who wouldn't trade Green? Vanek, Miller, Ott, Smith, Nyquist, Tatar, Mrazek, Sproul, Ericsson, Green, Kronner, Z (only if he wants another shot at the cup otherwise he deserves to stay), Marchenko. So basically everyone for picks and prospects
-
You rather get nothing? Of course a first would be great plus a prospect even greater but I don't think that's realistic. Word should be out by now that Vanek, Green are more than just available in order to create some kind of bidding war but the Wings can't make the same mistake the Isles made by overpricing him and hanging on till the last hour or so. If nobody offers a first then lower the price a bit till enough teams bite and then drive the price up a bit again. Personally I'd rather get something instead of nothing again for a guy who is not part of the rebuild.

Bowman is not Holland, Shero or Wilson. Chicago needs depth at some point. Vanek is a third liner on their team since when do they return a first round pick? You don't understand the difference? Wings needs: top defenseman, number 1 center - of course that's very costly Hawks needs: depth - not even close to being as costly Of course if someone offers that you take it and run with it but realistically a second round pick is still a solid return for him Bowman is not Holland, Shero or Wilson. It isn't from a reputable source so I would take it with a grain of salt. Last time he got traded Isles wanted to much and got a second plus prospect. People expecting a first are asking for too much. The guy is a pure rental playing for another contract

So Capuano fired but not the guy who let 3 major pieces go and only replaced 1 of them ..Garth Snow. This is also bad for the Wings cause it will most likely mean Gallant could be of the market soon.
