Are they supposed to ? No, but seriously the pictures, water quality and below average standard and we are talking about the best players in the world here they aren't used to that kind of stuff. If a city can't even offer good quality on top of spending 50 million $ they shouldn't get the games period. The only thing players should have to worry is the competition and nothing else but in Sochi they have a lot of stuff to worry about: attacks, supbar quality of life, safety and water which isn't even drinkable...thats bad standards no matter how you look at it, pathetic.

I don't think fearing health and safety of the athletes has anything to do with politics. Overall i fully agree but the circumstances are what they are. All we can do is hope, that nothing happens and the best hockeyteam wins without any controversy.

Buffalo is a team, which will have a hard time reaching the cap floor so some crazy overpayment does actually help them. I am sure he wants to become UFA and getting a heck of a payday everyone would. It's a perfect setup the cap is going up and Vanek is by far the best available player. That's like jackpot for a player and his agent.

The ioc should be ashamed and held responsible for that disaster. Instead of talking about the prejoy, we have to read things from Muslims planning attacks, dogs getting killed, people there losing homes and of course bad quality of life. Worst Olympic decision ever made be proud you ioc f***ers

Damn aren't both getting the SO since neither allowed a goal? Nice to see our goaltenders doing well. Gus has had some sort of heart problems, when he came over hopefully that's behind him, dizziness is scary hopefully he can get well soon.

I hate to say it but it's just true sometimes prospects are just assets there are only so many places on a roster. If we have to part with some of them in order to get a very good number 1 defender in his mid twenties I'm all for it. Guys like Nyquist ONLY if the Blues entertain to move Pietrangelo or the Kings a guy like Doughty. If the Sabres are buying out Tyler Myers if I would be willing to take a chance at him if I were Holland.

Huge win so happy for the monster. Sweden is set in goal now with Lundquist and Monster playing great. Hamhuis would look nice in Red and White but the price maybe to steep

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
frankgrimes replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Agreed if one of those is moved or packaged the return better be a mid twenty reliable first pairing defenseman, otherwise hell no. Something about the whole rental thing: As Wings fan we were used to "get the guy, make him an offer and he will sign" after the whole Suter/Parise thing and might even include Hossa situation, I have become very cautious about trading for rentals. Glad to read that we are basically all are on the same page, when it comes to rentals now. btw. I've read that Snow offered Vanek 7/50 *lol* this is the exact same contract he already had.I feel sorry for the Islanders fans, their management and ownership is a joke. -
What's wrong with Pasha? (Mod warning post #57)
frankgrimes replied to matthewdanna's topic in General
I just want him to get well soon and even if he is holding back in order to be ready for the olympics so what? The guy has given fans and especially this organization so much joy, he now has a once in a lifetime opportunity = captain your national hockeyteam in the olympics in your fatherland ! All I know is, I will enjoy watching him showing off his magic on the big ice. All the best Pasha -
I've given up on predictions with this team, so just play hard for a full 60 minutes and see what comes from it. Canucks are going to be on fire, they've struggled lately and their coach has just come back.

So well deserved wow Gustav what a performance

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Ah my mistake then so sorry, man the Rangers would be so stupid letting Girardi walk their defense isn't very good they literally should pay Lundquists bill everytime he is bailing them out. If he becomes available I say overpay for him and try to build a solid defense. As for adding rentals: I would only do that, IF it doesn't cost next generation talent and at least have a shot at re-signing the guy. In this day soon be UFA players aren't willing to give up their only chance to decide where they want to play unless they are playing for a cup contending team of course but other than that, it just doesn't happen very often. To be completely honest, there is not one player available who would put this team into cup contention right now, so the smart thing might be to wait and then use the cap space to accomplish two things without giving up assets: 1. get a goal scorer 2. fix the defense Trying to fix both come trade deadline would be a disaster in terms of picks, prospects because it costs to much. Man that Stuart deal was poor robbery on Hollands part if he could pull out something like this again with Girardi that would be something else. -

God I wish people would stop just posting capgeek rosters, without adding a comment. Girardi for 3,25 *lol* The whole Vanek thing will be over within 2 months, the guy is a pure rental he wants to test UFA. So every team giving up an A level prospect + a 1 does so for a short window of his services. Smart GMs aren't crazy enough to do that, because if they want him make an offer on July 1. From a Wings stance Holland would deserve to be fired if he packaged one of Sheahan, Tatar, Nyquist, Dekeyser or Mantha for him. Snow will try hard to get back a serious package, because they've given up a lot to get Vanek. An argument can be made for both sides when it comes down to the driverseat, Vanek will make an already contending team better but they all know that Snow has to deal him now, or the Isles are going to lose him for nothing. -
Nope far from it, Buffalo was prepared to make him the highest paid player in the league and he declined. Guy wants a cup and decide where to play .

Offense wins games but defense wins Stanley Cups. Look no further than the capitals they are a one or two man show at best, which hasn't gone beyond round two of the playoffs because their defense absolutely sucks. There is a reason why teams are built from the net out. Don't do that and you end up like the Oilers Vanek would be a great target, if he could be added alongside a bonafide defender. -

The problem is simple, making a deal that doesn't include Tatar/Nyquist/Danny and Sheahan won't net you a lot. So the best bet would be overpayment come July 1 for a bonafide defender. If these 4 aren't included other Gms will ask for Mantha which is another no brainer. Also just because the draft isn't supposed to be good doesn't mean a very good draft position should be automatically in play. -

Wings need a bonafide trustable defenseman more than anything. If thats not available sell some dead weight for picks -

Nyquist is one of a kind, Goooose for Sochi ! defense on both teams is atrocious, McPhee might not receive an extension if the Caps are missing the playoffs -

Holland tried but didn't have a plan B that's the problem. Stuarts situation was clear after the day come out stating that he wants to play closer to his loved ones. Also the Holmer retirement has been way underrated, nobody can do what he did infront of the net. -

We've known that since Lidströms retirement, also losing Rafalski seems to hurt more than we thought -

Babcock could put in Kingquist back there and the outcome wouldn't that much different, the defense is a huge mess. That's what happens when you can't even ice two good pairings -

I would trade him for Erskine, Thornton, MacIntyre, Scott, Gazdic or Bordelau straight up no questions ask. In all honesty a back of pucks would be an overpayment right now for him -

A win could create some sort of distance between the two teams, I expect a very desperate Caps club tonight.
