    filip forsberg trade

This at least to me is the worst deadline move. Sure Erat is a great player but you don't play a guy like Forsberg for him, period. Looks Like GMGM is getting extremely desperate to hold onto his job, if I am a Capitalsfan I would hate this move a lot. Easily beats out Bishop for Connocher +4 found pick.

Shocking, Wings aren't active as trade deadline expires

I did not expect the Wings to be buyers, but for sure sellers. Filpulla is believed to command 5m per so why not trade him for a first? At that price it would be desastrous to bring him back. White is sitting more than playing, if not a second a third should have been possible. I am glad Holland stood pat but these two guys should have been dealt today! Prices will never be that high again for Filpulla and this ladies and gentlemen is a lost first round pick.

Tampa now has two unproven goaltenders and just lost a very good prospect, if you are willing to deal Conacher why not add a 2 and another prospect and try to get a great goaltender? WoW Stevie dropped the ball here.

    Trade Ian White

If Kenny can get a second from a very desperate team for him, this would be a huge steal.

    time to trade filppula?

There are really only two options: a.) res-sign him at a reasonable price b.) trade him for a first round pick today!

Stars trade Jaromir Jagr to Bruins

Couldn't agree more if I am Chris I. I'd tell my dad to drop the revenue sharing until a certain key is fired and the league actually rewards success and advise him to get other big dogs on board. The Wings under NON communism standards would be icing a Stanley Cup Contender every year wonder why? Because they have the best owner in all of sports but he isn't allowed to use his money by someone who has no clue about hockey AND has to pay millions to keep questionable teams alife.

Stars trade Jaromir Jagr to Bruins

Ok at first look at the pricetags for some of the keyplayers and then tell me again, how it would be possible to get Vanek for a first and Ehrhoff for a second? Either of them will command a first + an A prospect at least. This would mean giving up 2 first round picks, two top prospects and maybe even more, no but thanks.

An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy

I agree the time to unload Filpulla and White is going to be tomorrow! The prices will never be that high again and there is a good chance of getting a first and second for this duo back, at least Holland has to try it.

Stars trade Jaromir Jagr to Bruins

So basically the Phil Kessel trade just for a 29 year old Vanek, who has one year left on his contract? Brilliant :-)

No the Wings aren't a contender for Lord Stanley this season, Stafford, Fleischmann, Pominvolle and even Gaborik wouldn't change that. Succesful teams are building from the net out not the other way.

Why should someone call you names for YOUR opinion? As much as I disagree with you I respect your opinion just keep in mind what some of these teams have in common: they are Stanley Cup Contenders, the Detroit Red Wings for the first time since two decades are a bubble playoff team (= looking at making them and getting bounced in the first round for the second time in a row). Given the two situations there is only one under which such bold moves would make sense! I would have loved getting Bouwmeester but the reality is, the Wings are not in a position to trade another first round pick in a deep draft, because we might be looking at a very good one here. Derek Roy to the Canucks just made sense, they were looking at a second line center and got him for a good price. The Canucks unlike the Detroit Red Wings are still in a position to contend for the cup, so giving up 2 seconds for 3 weeks of Roy wouldn't have been worth it either. Jagr is 42 years old, is a primadonna only looking for the biggest paycheque and has never shown any loyality to his former franchises so no I wouldn't have wanted him on the Wings and again with no chance to re-sign this guy in the summer, the price just was too high. Iginla didn't have the Wings on his list so thats easily a no starter....so if you are in Ken Hollands position what would you have done differently? Making a move for the sake off it didn't turn out too good last season did it?

How about 2 firsts and a second for player X ...sounds very familar with one of the worst trades ever ? :-) Want examples how this strategy would turn out? Look no further than the old Mapleleafs or Calgary Flames.

I think you have to look at the big picture here, all the teams landing the big rentals here do have one thing in common: they are contenders or close to be be STANLEY CUP contenders, the Detroit Red Wings aren't this year so why give up picks for rentals and I highly doubt the Flyers are dumb enough to let Couturier go.

I think this is a great move for Vancouver, they now have center depth and with St. Louis, LA and Chicago loading up it was just natural to keep pace. These 4 are the top contenders in the west this year and the window is getting closer to be closed for some of them, so a desperate move? Maybe but a very good one. Roy - Kesler as their second line will be quiete dangerous that said I am glad, Holland hasn't been in on the Roy sweepstakes the guy is a pure rental according to TSN looking at a 6m plus contract annually. So with everything thats left, I think holding on to the picks and standing pat is the smartest move right now.

    Bouwmeester to Blues

As always great summary by Lebrun. I really wanted Bouwmeester on this team but not at the cost of a first round pick, thats why I've asked the question if the difference between a late first and an early second is that big. Detroit Red Wings are in no position to trade a first this or the next season, period though I think giving up two good prospects AND a second rounder would have been the better move for Calgary to take but whatever it is what it is.

Wouldn't do it, this team needs defense after that you can rebuild the offense. Gaborik with his salary is obviously a non starter, Wings need to get bigger not add another softish although very very good scorer.

I think Buffalo will try heavily to ship him out of the east, the Canucks are just making too much sense to pass on this opportunity imagine Kesler and Pominville on the same line.

    Bouwmeester to Blues

Jarnkrok and Ouellet are promising yes but outstanding? Time will tell. The thing about Jay Bouwmeester is, the guy has never played on a good team, Flames gave away Phaneuf for basically nothing after a few months and he played tons of minutes this season for Calgary according to Flamesfans without a doubt their best defenseman. Guy has 1 year left on his contract and would have easily become the Wings best defenseman, watch him blossom alongside Pietrangelo now, also Dreger mentioned the Wings management is crushed they didn't get him. So even the higher ups thought highly of this guy and Bouwmeester would have been a great mentor for Dekeyser and Smith.

    Trade Ian White

I do believe, some desperate teams might be willing to give up a second for him, keep in mind Regehr returned two seconds in a deep draft and he is not 2 times as good as White, sure better but not by much. I have nothing against White, he for sure is a serviceable second pairing guy but honestly playing with Lidas made him better, than he really is/was (same goes for Kronwall).

    Bouwmeester to Blues

Honestly, are the differences between a late first and a fairly early second that big ? I highly doubt it, the Flames just made the Blues a lot better so chances are, the first round pick will be in the 22 + range. I don't care how underrated Bouwmeester is, but a GM should be able to get a first and Rattie/Cole for this guy in my mind.

When your first pairing is Bouwmeester - Pietrangelo odds are very very good of making them...

Done a quick look at their defense and it looks ridiculous: Every pairing has a shutdown AND a pmd now. Facing them in the playoffs just got even worse. Sent from my BlackBerry

Holland: "We don't need depth...Need a top guy"

Nice at least Holland won't trade this years first, unless for a player who can help the team tremendously. Doesn't Vanek have some sort of NMC? Sent from my BlackBerry

    Bouwmeester to Blues

Little sad Detroit couldn't beat this offer. I mean, this is basically Bouwmeester for a late first? They didn't even get Rattie or Cole. I mean Jurco, Quincy plus a second would be better than thaty! Sent from my BlackBerry
