There may be some better players but Evander Kane is not of them. How many GMs have used offersheets maybe 5 and despite one all got matched. Also Kane seems not like a good locker room guy so pass on that one. Caphit of 7.5 for an elite player entering his prime is nearly a bargain.
-
Corry Perry but he is a great forward in terms of defensemen there aren't really any number 1 defenders outside of Weber though.
-
I guess with a plan like this I can already see the horrible 7 letters on the wall "lockout". There is simple no way players would accept another rollback, nor should they..
-
Finally at home, able to use my notebook. Would that really help us? I mean, Yandle with the option of not losing picks for one year would be nice, but like someone said this would just be another rigged draf, if Jamison still doesn't have the money then will have no choice and relocate in a more hockeycrazy city I guess. I mean, playing with 29 teams means one conference will have less games, maybe promote an AHL club?

We were a top 5 team last year yes, I am serious I just don't see us having a chance against some of the better western teams. Mind you we have finished 5 with Lidström, Stuart who are now retired or in San Jose. There just aren't easy solutions, maybe playing a strong defense first tough game, is the way to go we shall see.
-
Like I said in another thread, kinda changed my mind a bit, if he accepts an one year deal worth 5,5, try it. Just better than a guy like Parise seems like a bit of a stretch.
-
Well, being torn between retool/build/load is hard but better longterm. I expect a dogfight for the playoffs between: - Anaheim - Calgary - Minnesotta - Detroit We still need to get tougher.

Dear Mr. Holland: Forget about FA, trade for Yandle and Ryan
frankgrimes replied to YzermanRULES19's topic in General
Fine, what is your solution for our defense? Are you willing to get rid off our most promising prospects? I am not. GM's aren't dumb otherwise they would not have that job. Opponents now know exactly, how bad we need defensive help, meaning the asking prices are going up not down. Don't make the mistake and assume I am happy with potentially missing the playoffs, I am just realistic and thinking longterm.- 61 replies

Could Wings still make a move on Weber this year?
frankgrimes replied to turbowhistle86's topic in General
They could if Poile wants to get fired. No way they are giving us - or any other western team - their captain. He will sign either longterm or a one year contract Nashville shops him to a hopefully bad team and we could make an offer for Weber next year. -

That's true but Getzlaf and Weber aren't boyhood friends as far as I know. It is a really hard offseason so far and I just don't see a real fix for us, it happens but patience is key. Would you be happy with overpaying for at best class B players? I would be happy with one year deals, just not willing to handcuff us and lower our chances to break the bank for elite type of players, next year. I'd love Suter and Parise as Wings but Getzlaf and Weber is a dream too, give them 14 years worth 100 million.- 61 replies

I am sorry, but these two won't make us contenders for the cup. Doan brings grit, leadership and toughness but he does not fix our biggest hole, the defense! Yandle is a good player nothing special. I know some do not want to see this streak coming to an end, but would you be happy with the alternative? Getting our asses handed to us by Vancouver, Nashville, Los Angeles, Chicago or San Jose? Personally I rather not make the playoffs and have a superb offseason next year <<< hello Getzlaf and Weber- 61 replies

Like I'am always believing, never underestimate the greed and stubborness of some owners. These guys got everything they wanted the last time. So given that I think they are the ones to give now. The cap at this point will not go down, because players finally have someone who will stand up for them! If it does I assume revenue sharing will come to an end and a lot of mercanary buyouts.

Ryan will be traded out of the west, if he is really avaiable. Yandle the same. In reality there are no players avaiable to make us a cupcontender this year.- 61 replies

Parise may be overpaid but he is one heck of a player, all around everything a guy like Semin couldn't even dream off and yet people are willing to pay him big money? Let me tell you why I think, these guys won't help in the long run: Simple look at the UFA pool next year and tell me you wouldn't throw crazy contracts at Weber and Getzlaf? These two would set us as contenders for another decade, Semin and Doan will maybe help us getting into the playoffs but we will get our asses handed to us by the Hawks, Vancouver, Los Angeles or Nashville and we wouldn't have enough money to sign both superstars.
-
This guy is one tough customer, save for McGrattan and Steve MacIntyre I see no one being able to handle him, great signing for the Sabres.
-
It could go down but it could also go up and then the 16 $ million from this season would come in incredbile handy, which might be push us over on the top list for Weber and Getzlaf.
-
Rather save money than going after Semin Doan they wont help us. This offseason was Suter or bust so lets bust and come back with even more money to handout next year.

signed Wings hire Tom Renney as Assistant Coach (3-year contract)
frankgrimes replied to Jesusberg's topic in General
I like it, the guy has experience with young-guns and can't be worse than the assistants we had this year. -
To everyone trashing Holland for that one, some questions. 1. What would you have done differently? Don't give me the excuses like "he should have" its about what you would have done in order to improve this Hockeyclub. 2. How would you have the handled the Suter & Parise situation? Keep in mind before you answer, they both wanted to play together and in front of their families. They passesd up on an Original Six franchise and also on the chance of playing alongside Malkin, Crosby and Suter being paired with Letang. So this has nothing to do with Detroit's Diamond losing it's shine. 3. Would you be confident with overpaying for at best class B players in order to squeeze into the playoffs and getting our asses handed to us by Vancouver, LA or Nashville? or maybe just maybe we should pack it in for this season, see what we have in our young-guns, load capspace and offer the world to Getzlaf and Weber next year? 4. What would you have done to prepare for Lidströms retirement? Save for Burns who went to the Sharks there was absolutely no one outthere, to improve this defense last year! 5. How much more money would you have offered? Please notice, it wasn't about money for them. Aside from the obvious questions some of you should ask themselves if you are truely RedWingsFans or fans of winning? Money and tradition aside, you can't win it every year and sometimes you have to go through a reload/tool episode and personally I can't wait seeing our young-guns learning from their mistakes and becoming better players. Sorry I know I am the new guy here, but some people are acting like the wolrd is coming to an end just because two elite UFAs decided to go elsewhere.

Opinions if Wings have to settle for 'Plan B': Semin and Carle
frankgrimes replied to a topic in General
True that but so what there are at least 3 very big fishes to catch next year (Weber, Getzlaf, Perry) I can honestly tell you I'll gladly miss the playoffs if we sign at least two of this trio!- 93 replies

frankgrimes replied to Ozzie30's topic in General
Congrats to the wild, no ill feelings for both all the best. For us: stay pat and push it to the max for Getzlaf and Weber next year and stay the damn away from Carle and Seminn. Btw: Kenny did what he could and people want him faired? Grow a pair seriously Congatulation to everyone who called this- 252 replies

Parise for his size has a good weight but a real enforcer wouldn't have been a mistake in my mind. Especially our D needs to be more aware and willng to deliver bonecrushing hits (K r o n w a l l e d anyone?). Lets assume we get Suter, there is still no way to replace Lidströms transition game so all 5 players on the ice need to be more responsible on both ends, thats not an easy job and will take quiete some adjusting.
