There is no magival let's copy the most recent cup winner formula because the Wings don't have any of the things the Pens have like best player in the world (Crosby), Letang playing like a Norris winner, Elite center in Malkin, top goaltending and one of the best snipers in the game.. Also can't copy the Hawks, Kings for the same reasons..we all know how to get these players... The best team one and deservingly so, Crosby wasn't my first choice but he is a deserving winner guy flat out killed the sharks with his end to end rushes. People thought the Sharks were fast - which they are - but the Pens are even faster. You counter that playing a more physical type of game, forecheck hard and hit everything that moves..because the sharks were never able to match that speed.

I would laugh out so hard at the people who ran Kessel out of town..hopefully he wins the Conn Smythe. It's gotta be between Crosby, Pavelski, Jones/Murray and him.

Again nothing personal against him but the guy IS from the NBA. So I'm sure he is an expert in the NBA business side of things, a smart guy and what not but that doesn't translate to the NHL. It would be the same vise versa what does an NHL business type know about the NBA? Nothing. You have to understand hockey, how it works to be good at the business side of it. I mean you can't work for let's say Apple without knowing what a MBP is and how it works. If you want to bring in someone who can increase the "bottom line" it should have been a hockey name like #99.

I have asked myself this question many times, especially after that lackluster presser where they basically shrugged of the LED question. I didn't like the hiring of Tom Wilson back then (that guy is from the NBA what does he know about hockey? in every interview his just talking about numbers and the bottom line...), but with Chris Ilitch it's different. It's hard to assume how this guy will manage the Red Wings but it seems like he isn't exactly like his dad. Seems to be the last one in and the first one out when it comes to the Red Wings, see team photos at the end of the season. Maybe I'm wrong and he will lead the Wings like his father did but his hirings and some replies aren't exactly pointing into that direction. But if that's the case, the Wings troubles will obviously go far beyond rebuilding the right way or not...because it all starts at the top, either an owner does whatever it takes or he doesn't and if it's the later well then Stanley Cups won't be on the agenda. But let's also make that caphit a bigger problem than it really is, it's a one year contract in a year, where the Wings might start without a number 1 center and a number one defenseman (barring some miracle). So it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have that deal for just 1 year, of course trading it should be the first option.

Pasha plus Jurco, Pulkinnen for taking that contract. wings free up roster space and teams get at least something for taking on that cap hit.

Things a top team needs: good to elite goaltender number one center number defenseman Let's assume Danny D. is close to a number one he still needs someone that can keep up with him and then you need a number one center...Especially since now Eichel, Matthews and Puljujarvi will be in the same division..It's kind of a crap situation and there is only one option to make it better but that player might not even want to come to a declining aging team.

I was a huge fan of the Okposo, Backes and/or Looch signing but that was before the Wings needed to replace an elite number 1 center now the job has become so much harder. If not Stammer I don't even know who might fill that need. I know people expect Larkin to become that but I honestly think it's asking too much right now and it spells trouble .Also the Isles would be stupid to let Okposo go their offense is already Tavares plus X without him the X becomes even smaller Somehow I wish the Wings would sign Radulov so I could enjoy the gongshow he will create

Yes, the Wings priority #1 needs to be the blueline at all costs but other than drafting into the top 10 or trading for Trouba there is nobody available so the options here are (sadly) limited. BUT all Stamkos would cost is money, guys of his ilk usually don't make to UFA and people would pass on that opportunity? Seriously the Wings also need to replace an elite #1 center in Pasha because the truth is Z's top 6 center days are over and if Larkin takes a bit of a step back, the Wings would be without a number 1 center. So Stammer would make a lot of sense. The funny thing is, I don't even expect to sign here but taking the afore mentioned guys over him? Wow that's just insane.

Yeah why bring in someone like Mitch Korn who has worked with elite goalies like Rinne, Holtby when you can just hire another GR guy with no NHL talent experience.

Well it's really simple Wings need to: - draft into the top 10 (at least) - replace a number 1 center - fix the defense to put it nicely a massive massive off-season is needed, otherwise just blow it up and build around Dekeyser, Larkin and Mantha
