Ownership shows Support for Kenny Holland
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Takeaways from an hour long listening: The first 15 minutes were like a lection in hockey history. Unreal how much stuff this guy remembers. Yes, the Wings will need to be a lot more aggressive come draft and come UFA day but guess what, there aren't many too many pieces other GMs are going to be interested enough in in order to get that so much needed top 10 pick to draft Chychrun. So a combination of being aggressive and smarter than a lot of GMs will be needed. I also liked the part where he was talking about too much pressure too soon for some young guys. Handing the team over to a 19, 20 old kid can be done if the kid is Crosby McJesuslike otherworldly good and even then Crosby had Super Mario as his mentor. Making McDavid the captain for the Oilers is asking for too much too soon and unneeded pressure on a kid that shoulders all the hope down there. I think one of Danny D., Larkin and Abdelkader will grow into a natural leadership role but takes time. Tatar and Nyquist had an off-season by their standards and if the right trade comes along I'm sure Holland will move one of them but if not, I'd still be fine with both coming back, given that someone on their line can create space for either one. The part about the fanbase having to expect less was a bit dumb. This isn't your average expansion team we are talking about Hockeytown rich history, Original 6 here. The goal isn't to just hang on wingsstyle means not just being marginally better it means being the epidome of excellence, with a roster that doesn't need to give it everything and still win. A roster that's able to play everyway the opponent wants and still comes out on top and of course if you need a player to fix a position, it should be expected to get that players because we are talking about the Detroit Red Wings aka Hockeytown here. Less isn't acceptable nor should it be. Fact is, the interest in this team is fading the empty seats at the Joe aren't just suits who bought the tickets but aren't showing up for whatever reason, real people aren't going or signing on for season tickets too. Holland may not be interested in a traditional rebuild fine, but if his last decisions are an indication he isn't interested in going all in either so whats the plan? Trying to get better on a marginal basis while other teams are improving and you also have worse teams catching up by getting top draft picks? That's not a plan for success it's a plan for disaster in the long run. Yes, a rebuild does take time and yes, there are no guarantees but guess what when I'm looking at rosters like the Oilers, Sabres and McJesus and Eichel I'd sure as hell trade this roster for Edmontons. The funny thing is, Kenny mentioned he doesn't want a real rebuild because it takes 8+ years well guess what Holland the last time this team has been competitive was 2009 and we are now in 2016 - do the math Of course nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes but is Holland the right guy for a rebuild? By his own words, that's not the case. The best part for me about all the interviews has been the fact that even as a fan you can really hear some tension brewing by just looking at the face of these guys. They are literally pissed of. So there is no way this team is going to look the same next year. As far as the ownership goes, I still don't know if Chris has the same passion for this game as his dad so far it seems like he is more interested in the bottom line.... -
Well Holland doesn't own the team Illitch should have given him 2 options: move up or move on. Wings could have had the captain as the GM right now, so sad to think about it.

The guy is done, it's so obvious players are signing the #13 jersexy, the look on his face after losing to Tampa, the handshake lines ...it's too bad the magic man couldn't win another cup. There will never be another Pasha good luck replacing that guy *lol* -

Well every owner will do that, the Meylnks of the world are the exception not the norm. I'm sure they aren't happy and can't be happy with the direction (no identity no real plan), so far. -

Disclaimer: This thread isn't about discussing the pros/cons of Ken Holland and his tenure as a Red Wings GM. So if people want to discuss him do it in one of the other topics. The goal is, to look at potential replacements starting next year or by the time his contract is up. Don Maloney As I've said in another thread I would be fine with Don Maloney. He didn't have a whole lot to work with in Arizona and left that team with a very solid core going forward (Duclair, Domi and OEL). His team made the playoffs under a shoestring budget and gave the Kings all they could handle a few years ago to me that's impressive. What I like about him is that he isn't gunshy to trade players and get some great returns, i.e. the Yandle trade getting a first and Duclair for him is really really great. On the flipside I didn't like how they handled the Domi situation the guy was ready before and they've just kept him down for cost reasons but yeah that's out of his control if Leblanc told him to do so. Would I give him the job without asking other candidates? No, but I think he should be one of the top candidates on Mr. I's list. Dean Lombardi Maybe maybe the Wings get lucky and the Kings decide to fire Dean Lombardi if that happens he has to be #1 on this list and we all know what a great GM this guy is. I really like his philosophy of how to build teams that are tough to play against and he builds from the net out. Throw the bank at him and give the guy a free reign to do whatever is neccessary to rebuild the Wings to their former - too long gone - glory. Jason Boterill (Ass. GM in Pittsburgh): If Super Mario decides to extent Rutherford, which would be a huge mistake but whatever I think he would be an interesting choice. He is pretty young for a GM, has the much needed experience and could be one of the upcoming top GMS in the game. Of course there is no guarantee and some questionmarks on how he would do as THE guy running the show but nontheless a very interesting choice. Before people are mentioning our current assistant GMs I think some fresh blood and new ideas are needed that's why I went with guys outside of the organization.

Last year I've watched game 7 and the Blues lost, this year I can't so maybe just maybe. -
For the last time it's not a rebuild, a rebuild means getting rid of past their prime players, sign people to short-term contracts in order to use them as assets for more draft picks and get TOP picks. What the Wings are doing/have tried to do is reTOOL: (have players in the minors and hope they turn out better than expected while the current core is still somewhat able to play), on the fly - major difference. We can all dream about it but the fact is the guy is not available. I hope if the Bolts lose Stamkos and Drouin Winnik will go bonkers and fire him so the Wings can finally bring the captain back but that's more a dream than reality.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Not that it matters because he wouldn't sign here but yeah let's not have someone who provides entertainment on an otherwise very easy to play against team without an identity. Hilarious quote I don't think it was a shot at the higher ups but even if it was all the better. PP went down the toilet without him. -
why would he? No pressure in Dallas he built himself an unbelievable team and the stars aren't even in their prime yet. Whoever will come in has to fix the hardest positions to dolphin hockey, too 6 center and top pairing defender, that's not an easy task although Nill fixed the former in 2 years

This has Hawks Wings from a few years ago written all over it. Blues will play scared and the Hawks are going to ride their comeback wave to round 2. Other than Anaheim no team has a chance to stop them oh my -
this isn't a discussion about Holland it's about potential replacements. And no, retooling isn't the same as rebuilding.
-
I don't honestly care I want a GM who either commits to a rebuild or goes all inNo more of this stupid keeping the streak alive at all costs or retooling on the fly..that plan has failed as evidenced by the steady decline of this team. But I really hope there is a plan B if Stamkos doesn't come and of course the defense needs to be fixed it's been 4 years since Lids retired...get some help there or bring in someone who will trade the players necessary to get that top pairing guy. There is no way this team can go into the season without a top 6 center and a much improved defense
-
I would wait and see what he can do with better players. Babcock had a mediocre roster so did Blashill. Every coach in this league would have been a downgrade you can't replace the best coach in all of hockey and expect a seemless transition it just doesn't happen. I hate the way he handled Mantha situation but like every new coach he will learn and adapt. Blashill should be far down the list when it comes to replacing some front office stuff. Gotta look at way higher than that

great start if the Hawks are scoring another one I turn this game of damnit. Blues play blues hockey and don't get into a shooting match with them -
at least try it and throw the bank at him won't be an easy sell with all the holes, that's for sure. Should have never let him and Nill go. Kenny should have taken over from Develano 4 years ago so maybe it's not a position he wants I also don't believe Mr. I would be happy with a first round exit streak. that's pathetic for wings standards
-
If course Yzerman would be the best option he knows the organization is a god around here and doesn't screw around.

lol seriously ? the things Toews provides may not show up on the scoreboard every time but the bigger the game the better he plays. His leadership quality is unreal, he will play through everything just to help his team out. Can't believe people think Kane is more important than Toews wow -

Haha yeah or people just bounced of of him goes to show the dude wasn't just ridiculously skilled but also a very strong player. God will I miss Pasha just like with Lids time flew by way too fast...damn you father time. But I'm already looking forward to seeing his YT highlights dangling around Kovalchuck and Radulov. -
Didn't understand that either Niemi had 1 good playoff run and that was with a stacked as hell Blackhawks team other than that, he just isn't a very good goaltender.
