3/15 GDT : Red Wings at Philadelphia Flyers, 7:30 ET

well they won't go far too but their defense is setup nicely for years to come and their forward core is solid. I hope you are right it's time to stop the small soft Euro style and go with a real identity based on hard work , never giving up and not accepting defeats no matter the score without punishing the opposing team.

There is a great article on slapshot, about the pros and cons of the streak. Trying to find the link right now. To sum it up even they are seeing some pros which haven't been discussed yet:Missing the playoffs would allow the team to finally embrace a rebuild, take of some pressure of Holland and the players. The expectations will always be high in Detroit and for Redwings fans but this is also a hockeymarket, hockeymarkets do have smart fans. I think almost everyone would understand the situation, if the frontoffice is honest about it and not pull any crap like "we like our team, kicking tires...once you are in the playoffs everything can happen..." Look at how excited people are to see the young players. Sure it's far from over if they lose this game but the holes are obvious and no they can't be fixed internally nor via free agency (because nobody of that magnitude will sign here anyways)..people might think the differense between a 11 and 17 first round pick is marginal...just to put that into perspective we could be talking about a guy like Chychrun versus someone way worse here. Not the worst way to start a rebuild. found it http://www.todaysslapshot.com/nhl-east/atlantic/detroit-red-wings/playoff-streak-ending-could-be-positive-for-red-wings/

3/13 GDT : Toronto Maple Leafs at Red Wings, 7:30 EST

I think Blashill is doing a great job with what he has, which by Wings standards isn't a whole lot.So funny before the season a lot of people were thinking a rookie coach could turn an aging team filled with patchworks closer to contender status, when even a veteran and the best coach in all of hockey barely got them in...And now people want him fired. I think Blashill isn't even on the top problems list right now. I wish Mr. I would sell the other teams and just focus on making this franchise the go to place in the NHL again. Whatever the outcome will be of this season changes will be needed and Holland should better get his act together because next year is Pashas last. Maybe to some 4 more games is worth hanging on but if the Wings would have done things right at least one hole would have been fixed by now.

And what does making the playoffs do? This team can't a series of good games together and then they'll face Washington or Tampa..This wouldn't end well.Being realistic is not throwing in the towel it's wanting necessary changes in order to set the team up for a brighter future.

    Kronwall Injury

Kronner is best used as a second pairing defenseman, he can be physical and not having to play over his capabilities and risk injuries. Why favorite memories of him will always be how good of an open ice hitter this guy has been for so many years. Then he signed the extension and it's like he forgot how to hit...of course the **** suspension last year had something to do with It's now almost half a decade since Lidas retired...time to fix the defense.

3/13 GDT : Toronto Maple Leafs at Red Wings, 7:30 EST

Well there is a reason why this guy is considered the best coach in the world. I don't think the Leafs will finish outside of the bottom 5 but what he gets out of an AHL roster is nothing short of amazing. Anyhow there is no excuse losing against that team, this team scored 3 against King Henrik and then gets shutout by Bernier go figure. Glad I've stopped watching after the second period but man is this team ever unstable, they would be a ticket to the second round against Washington, Tampa...I honestly don't think it's worth it, get a better pick, deal veterans in the off-season and finally start a more traditional rebuild.

If that's true I want Ericsson to challenge Komarov whether he accepts or not

3/13 GDT : Toronto Maple Leafs at Red Wings, 7:30 EST

if only the Wings had a 230 lbs young monster ...oh wait they do let's see if that bastard Komarov would "fall" like that with McKee in the lineup. Can't wait till someone hammers that rat

    Kronwall Injury

So 3 weeks plus time to get in gameshape so at least 4 weeks till he plays again. Get well soon Kronner but don't rush it

    Kronwall Injury

that's why smart gms are trading their players before injuries are piling up on then, especially if they are in the midst of a rebuild/retoolLast year wings could have gotten a first for him this year I would've been happy with a second rounder and a solid prospect

    Kronwall Injury

Thescore is saying he is expected to return before the end of the season, TSN is stating the same. He hasn't looked the Kronwall of old anyways so maybe some rest is what he needs . Chance for Renuff I guess

Wings sign Maine Defenseman Dan Renouf

every player has the chance to bust, outside of the top 10 there aren't any guarantees. Smith is a fine player but just not the top talent some fans hoped he would become Anyhow signing players that don't cost you anything is smart I have high hopes for this guy, great size physical maybe finally someone to pair with Danny D.

Wings sign Maine Defenseman Dan Renouf

So what ? Men shouldn't play like girls and girls shouldn't play like men that's just basic nature Anyhow I also don't think a 55 position drafted player should be labeled a bust because the expectations aren't too high from the start. I would be happy with getting a third rounder for him

Wings sign Maine Defenseman Dan Renouf

Love reading that finally a 200 lbs kid not afraid using his body that from all reports doesn't play like a girl

Wings Vs Leafs Outdoor Game confirmed, 2017

This is freaking embarrassing for the Leafs. So they aren't getting the draft , WC and or the stupid all-star game , Habs got all of that some years ago. Way to support a franchise that's like the Wings is paying to keep all the failed ones alive, f*** this league.

3/8 GDT : Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets, 7:00 EST

it's Howard's net for now. Mrazek hasn't shown anything and played like crap lately if both struggle the coach will go with whoever is going to give him the best chance.

    Larkin needs a rest

I think the grind is just catching up to him , he's never played so much hockey at such a high level before so it has to be expected. I think giving him 2 games of would be fine

3/6 GDT : Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks, 5:00PM EST

Well I've wanted the Wings to do the so called "tank" last year and I would have been fine with losing for McDavid, Eichel. Also losing is a lot more tolerable when there is some silver lining at the end of the tunnel which basically means a better draft pick. Anyhow this has nothing to do with the discussion.

It's been discussed over and over what people want and why some things would make sense going forward.

3/6 GDT : Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks, 5:00PM EST

There is no shame in losing against that juggernaut that's true. But like I've said it's also an eye-opener showing everyone involved how high the bar is, if a team wants to contend for the cup. In the next at least 3 years Chicago, LA and Anaheim aren't going anywhere..new contenders especially Edmonton with McJesus will emerge. The goalie debate has to be over for the next little while, if Howard struggles play the hothand if not it's his net to lose, period. I fully agree with you, while the Wings could need some scoring help in the form of Mantha (could) be on the way if he puts all his tools together. But there is no elite defensie help in the minors - I think at this point this has to be clear to everyone involved in the organization - so either make a tremendous package for one or more realistically, trade your way into the top 10. Maybe there are other options but right now I can't think of any. Wonder if the Wings could have gotten a first rounder for Green, if Polak is worth a second rounder... As far as the competition is concerned I don't think for a minute that Ottawa can repeat their amazing Hamburglar story from last year, so if the goal is still to make the playoffs I guess Philly, Pittsburgh and Boston are the teams to watch out for.

Ladd would be nice the guy could win his 3 cup at some point he has to think about getting paid. It may very well be his last paycheck so I'm sure he is looking to cash in but personally I'd rather have Looch. Because the guy is like a swiss knife he fills a lot of needs. Wouldn't be opposed to Okposo I like his game but why would the Isles give him up? He adds a lot of their top 6 and seems to be one of the leaders on that team.

3/6 GDT : Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks, 5:00PM EST

Well the good thing is for the first time since forever he at least mentioned rebuilding on MLive. Personally I don't care about the streak it'si mpressive, huge and a tremendous accomplishment but I'd easily give 10 years of it if it meant another cup for Z, Pasha and Kronner they've given so much to this team and would have deserved it in my mind. As far as the offense goes I don't know why people are shocked by that? It's clear Z and Pasha can't carry the team on their backs anymore and expecting a 19 old rookie to keep up his tremendous pace over a 82 game grind is just not realistic. The good thing is, when you are playing against teams like the Hawks the shortcomings are getting exposed and you can make some adjustments in the off-season. I'm not even dreaming about Stamkos coming here because why would he? The guy either goes home or he signs with a contender. A 26 old superstar in his prime whom more than 50 % of the league will want and make awesome sale pitches.

3/6 GDT : Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks, 5:00PM EST

They have the best coach/GM this game has ever seen in Scotty Bowman the guy is just a magician. All Stan has to do is ask his dad for an advice and get the $ from Wirtz...not that hard to sell UFAs on an annual contender loaded with guys like Toews, Keith, Seabrook and Kane...The west is far superior to the east again this year, Tampa or Washington would have to play out of their minds in order to have a chance against the Hawks, Kings or Ducks

This would have been needed since Suter decided in favor of Minnesotta or at the least after Niskanen said flatout no.
