Better than I thought they would be. Very happy for Blashill because a lot of people were calling for his head after a few games into the season, which was totally unfair. I think he is a good coach and maybe he'll be a great one some day. That being said I disagree with the notion of this team being built for a deep playoff run, with the decline of basically all the stars and still not enough size on the roster I think it will be another 1, 2nd round exit if they even make it to the show. Larkin so far has exceeded all expectations and is playing tremendously but the guy is 19 years old so expecting him to carry this team the whole season would be unfair, he is basically pulling a Nyquist 2 years ago. I'm still shocked at much of a step Kronwall has lost I expected some decline but not that to the current extent, Defensive help and scoring power will be needed going forward, the sad thing is nothing is available but that's a discussion for one of the other TDL threads. I honestly think some time on the third line wouldn't be the worst thing for our captain, we need him to be at his very best if the team is making the playoffs and show the young guns the way.

GDT 1/11 GDT - Red Wings at Kings - 10:30 PM EST
frankgrimes replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
Great GDT If the Kings are on their game this is going to be a quick one. A point would be nice -
And that's something nobody would like. I mean how would Ron Wilson or John Tortarella like being called out in the media? Not very much I guess and it's the same with the players. I mean there are tons of coaches who I'm sure don't get along well with every playero n their team but at the same time they don't call them out and try to make them better and to me that's the way to go. Because calling out your players in the public does only one thing: decrease their value and players getting pissed of asking for trades.

Nill 2 years to rebuild the Stars, Yzerman 4 that's unreal. extension is great for the Stars bad for us because I wanted him as a successor for Holland
-
haha 3 wins and people are already calling him the starter. This team will go through a winning and losing streak we've seen it and it will happen again. once it does goaltending depth will be nice to have.

Schenn at only 2 mill per is a steal physical beast and a reliable shutdown defenseman Lecavalier will retire after this season

Ken Campbell predicts Stamkos to Detroit blockbuster
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Stamkos will walk in the off season and could join Babs in Toronto Drouin is nice for the right price wouldn't give up Mantha for him since this doesn't come from Dreger, LeBrun or McKenzie I don't believe it -
it's funny how the conditioning only became a problem during the contract negotiations isn't it? Personally I find it much easier to believe that the jackets front office was pissed of that Johansen wanted to get paid a fair amount and then they've decided to go the public shaming and his condition sucks road. I mean Tortarella seems to live picking internal fights with players but hey jackets keep doing it Jenner would look fantastic in red and white as would Rychel. I feel sorry for Jones he has nobody to shield him in Columbus so he will be expected to save their defense as a 20 y old

Personally I'm glad GMs aren't listening to fans because we all have different opinions on what should have been done and now. But we aren't the ones knowing all the ins and outs of the job nor is our job on the line if we mess up. that being said I'm still amazed how much KH has changed his approach , as Wings we received the players we wanted back in the good old days but now it seems like Holland is afraid of blockbusters and for whatever reason ignoring the need for more size and gritty type of game from the bottom 6, third pairing

Mike Richard's Contract Terminated (Not Bought Out)
frankgrimes replied to P. Marlowe's topic in General
Low Risk, depth reward move I like it for Washington -
Seth Jones at first will turn out to be a second pairing defenseman at best he could become a Shea Weber light which is still very good. As far Johansen the guy has all the tools to become an absolute stud as a number 1 center. Nashville received a huge upgrade to their offense while giving up some depth of somethng they are already loaded with, good defenders. Coloumbus has improved their defense in a great way but they'll now spend years and years searching another rugged number 1 center...and we've all seen how easy that is.

Canadas best player? I think that was Strome by a mile. Marner had an outstanding 3 period against the Fins but that's about it, Virtanen had point in the whole tournament. USA is an easy choice Austin Mathews, Sweden I would say Soderstrom.

4 guys of the finish team are going to be draft eligible
-
unreal that composure with the puck, sad that this tournament is over now

Both PP goals by insane wristers not bad such a great game and and the atmosphere is amazing. Suck it NHL
-
If that's true I'd be doing it immediatelyI hope the next guy they are going to piss of will be Jenner
-
I think he can become a light version of David Backes and that would be something this team needs. Doubt a 3 or th get it done but maybe Jurco + a 2nd?
-
Right now that's sadly the Hawks.. If the Wings can bring back their winning days and more of an NA playstyle things will hopefully change
-
Agreed they couldn't figure out how to generate chances the only real chance was that bomb in the last seconds.

Laine would look good in red and white sadly I don't think he will last long come draft.

GDT 1/4 GDT : Red Wings at New Jersey Devils, 7:00 EST
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Wings need 2 points but the Devils are much better than I've expected them to be still Wings should come out on top. -
DD > Schultz by a mile

What a game, feel bad for Soderstrom that guy put on a show. The finish top line really is something else but they got a bit lucky in this game could have gone either way. The atmosphere at those WJC games is also better than the suit dominated quiet NHL atmosphere but boy that Englund penalty was a tough call. Refs didn't need to call that but sadly this is european style and a big reason why european hockey isn't as physical as it could be. Both Sweden and Finland aren't huge countries but the amount of talent they produce is just outstanding and never fails to amaze me year after year.
