2015 SCF : Chicago Blackhawks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
This just sucks: 66 % of the Triplets Line is banged up, Stamkos not in his usual beast mode and Bishop injured, while everyone on the Blackhawks is healthy and ready to go, damnit. Even if all the odds are against the Bolts they've yet to lose a game 7 and not look dominant so go Bolts go go -
Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Not every prospect will and can become an NHLer it's just the nature of the business. That being said if the biggest needs of a team are size and players with a mean streak drafting undersized guys and hoping they'll bulk up enough isn't always wise. Sure not every big bodied player will turn out either but all a guy like Nick Ritchie needs to work on is his skating and he will be a force one day. As far as the prospect thing honestly a lot of people are really overhyping the prospects. There is a reason why other GMs are asking for Mantha, Larkin and nobody else when it comes down to pull of some better trades because other teams do have their own Pulkinnens, Athanas, Marchenko and Outlettes and in the real NHL quantity doesn't net one quality in most cases. Personally I'd rather include Nyquist or Tatar in a trade before Mantha, Larkin because right now Mantha is the best bet at becoming a top 6 center one day, plus Mantha came back from a serious injury and just finished his first AHL season. Sure for the right deal everyone is available but the fact is this the Seabrooks' of the world aren't available and unless a defenseman of that stature becomes available Holland should be very hesitant to trade Larkin or Mantha. That's why I think Phaneuf is a good option he won't cost a kings ransom, is experienced and still decently aged should have at least another 4 good years left and something people at some point have to get used to: he actually has the Wings on his list of teams he would be willing to go to...which isn't an usual thing these days..i.e Kessels list -

2015 SCF : Chicago Blackhawks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa has yet to lose a game 6 and game 7 this year so it's not over but they'll need to step up their game. -
Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
See, Mantha is 20 years old neither Backes nor Getzlaf were the beasts they are now at that age. In fact Getzlaf received a lot of criticism for not playing physical and not using his huge frame to his advantage, he had to develop his mean streak as did Backes. I also think people have to give up the OEL dream he is not coming here because that guy isn't available save for some ridiculous overpayment and if that happens other teams have much more to offer than the Wings do. If Edmonton offers someone like Hall, Hopkins or Boston Lucic, Rask that they'll be already ahead on the OEL sweepstakes. -
Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Big, physical and a future powerforward so that's to be expected. Wings need another soft as butter 180 lbs player. Sadly the decision seems to be Develano > Mantha when it should be vise versa that guy should have been fired back in 2012 -
Hasn't even played an NHL game yet but for sure has franchise potential . I would be very happy if Larkin becomes a solid top 6 center. No surprise other fans think Wings fans are overrating their prospects But there really is no question Strome is and will be the better player guy has elite talent and size. The wings have a bunch of good prospects and some that could ! Be very good Mantha, Larkin . If the team traded for a top pick it should be for Hanifin sadly we don't have the assets
-
Strome will be a top 4 pick, so 2 picks at around 20 and AA would only accomplish one thing Maloney hanging up the phone laughing. Larkin would have to be included and then add significantly from there which means one of Dekeyser, Tatar or Nyquist
-
Franson is a solid option , he is big tough and for the right price a nice addition. The question is at what kind of money does he look ? If it's north of 4 stay away If we can't get Phaneuf an Ehrhoff Franson combo wouldn't be bad and at least would provide some options for Blashill Something around 6 years 27 million sounds fair for both

What changes do you think we'll see with Blashill?
frankgrimes replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
I don't think Phaneuf will waive for the Sharks , their future is clowdy at best their franchise center and GM aren't seeing eye to eye and they are in the verge of a rebuilding. -
Jets have a crazy fan base , they are sold out for years to come and like others have said there is nothing else in terms of pro sports teams in Winnipeg . Their owner is the second richest in the NHL after Samueli has sold his company for 37 billion, so they are loaded and have a ton of young talent , they just got rid of a malcontent in the locker room.Jets haven't even qualified for revenue sharing because they've done too well . So that's a real franchise it took them only 2 years to not depend on the money of teams like Toronto, Detroit.. Quebec could play the pure lain card and go full French meaning they'd cover the whole French market and don't forget the instant rivalry with the Habs . Still can't believe that Vegas is even in the discussion, when Quebec, Hamilton, Ontario and Seattle are begging for teams
-
Boston is going to match anything that isn't ridiculous. Dougie is their best option as a future number one guy right now. A guy like Phaneuf would be cheaper and provide some much needed physicality to this team. If that fails Luke Schenn would cost even less
-
Exactly I really feel bad for the fans attached to the team they deserve so much better. Also something that pisses me of us the BOG get some real owners there that would fire the ones responsible for the nearly unwatchable crap the NHL has become ! If it were up to me a young Don would run the league

frankgrimes replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
It's a decent package but it for sure won't return a top 4 defenseman. Maybe add a little bit and try to get Phaneuf -
Well the loyal fans there got screwed over bigtime by the NHL. I mean the guy who is responsible for putting a team there should be fired once they are on the move. That Vegas gamble - oh the irony - is the next stupid project. How hard is it for the NHL to understand that hockey in the desert will never work ? Now loyal fans are going to lose their team, because the interest has never been there from enough people and the NHL front office was too cocky admitting their mistake. Give Quebec back what has been stolen from them a long time ago,, let the Nordiques return and for once have another strong slamdunk market, i.e. another Winnipeg.

2015 SCF : Chicago Blackhawks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
This isn't even a question for me, I do like guys like Keith, Toews but I hate the hawks plus I really like Tampa but boy the style in the finals is boring they lack physicality and hatred for the opponent -
Jeff Blashill named 27th head coach in Red Wings history
frankgrimes replied to Jacksoni's topic in General
Personally I would give him a pass, the best coach in all of hockey barely made the playoffs with this team. So if nothing changes, especially on the defensive side I would not our the blame on Blashill. -

frankgrimes replied to Jacksoni's topic in General
Good luck Jeff will be a tough first - learning experience - year but hopefully Holland can provide him with a better team. I thought the freep analysis was spot on: hiring a young AHL coach is always a huge gamble, it can pay of temendously i.e Cooper or backfire i.e. Eakins. -
