I'm warming up to the idea of signing Petry (he's a Michigan boy) and trading for Phaneuf. It would make the defense a lot better Kronner and Phaneuf as the veterans, while DannyD will learn and soon takeover the top pairing spot and become captain in 2 years.

Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
The close to done McLellan signing is not a slap in his face why would it be ? Todd was the first guy Chiarelli and Nichelson reached out to because well he was the first major coach available. At that time Babs hasn't been aviable simple as that. Buffalo, St. Louis, maybe Anaheim and Pittsburgh - if Super Mario gets involved - are great opportunities for him too. Think about it, Babcock will have the opportunity to coach some superstars or a young team with an upcoming phenom in Eichel not bad not bad. -

I'm not feeling bad in fact it's the opposite I wanted Tampa to come out of the East and it looks like they at least have a chance. Yeah neither the Rangers nor Tampa will have a chance against the West but nonetheless a great job bthe whole team, Cooper and the Captain -

Tampa started a great job, the Rangers and King Henrik will finish it tonight ! Stammer versus king Henrik & Nash that's a freaking great ECF 4 years and two ECF appearances and that with a team that had no defense, goaltending till the Captain took over. -

Buffalo isn't far behind Edmonton, they do have some great prosepcts but for sure could need goaltending help and a winger for Eichel. But from all the "bottom " teams Buffalo and Edmonton would make a lot more sense than Toronto if the offer is close. Sure, IF he can win a cup in Toronto Babcock will be godlike but how many coaches, GMs were intrigued by that just to see their career go down ? Toronto is a rebuilding team that and for sure behind Buffalo and Edmonton. -

I hope Paquette and Brown are nailing some Habs douchebags tonight and end the series. Gallagher is like a little Marchand always yapping, always complaining but never backing it up. -

Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

This team doesn't have a clear identity whatsoever. Babcock is coaching a style that he believes fits his team best and let's them win...there is a reason why the Wings had to play a defensive minded system against better teams because Babcock knew, a scoring-race would end bad for this team. The defense right now is not good enough to risk something like that plus the Wings lack a pure goal-scorer. Playing an offense minded style would be like trying to force a brick through a circle.. Babcock has been begging for help and Holland hasn't delivered so now he is looking at other options which by all means is his damn right. Do I thinkk he will end up in Toronto ? Nope but listening to a franchise that will increase his salary is never a bad option he can now go to Edmonton and tell them Toronto is offering X amounts of money...I want to coach McDavid but the offer needs to be close to that ==> a very good situation for him, same thing with Buffalo and Eichel. Also the St. Louis job will open soon (if they don#t extend Hitchcock), Rutherford can bolster all he wants if Super Mario decides Babs is his coach they'll make a strong pitch for him and their 2 superstars are entering their prime...if Anaheim makes it past Chicago I think they'll keep Boudreaus. -

Obviously the good thing is all the Babcock sucks people will get their wish :-) Yes, changes are needed but getting rid of the best coach in all of hockey - who has coached a very average team into the playoffs for 3 seasons in a row - is the wrong thing to do..roster, GM changes would have been needed. But hey, a few patchworks here and there and an inexperienced coach in his first NHL year will make this team a contender so what do I know. In all seriousness I hope Babs can win a cup wherever he is going next sadly he didn't get the horses for another cup here. -

Just listened to Holland and I hope the Leafs fans are listening seriously: ..."we are not going to lose someone because of money.." thanks god someone better tell them that Mr. I will go through the roof if he wants to extend, sign someone. They are competing with a small market club here. I think St. Louis, Penguins and Ducks are the best established options and obviously the 2 upcoming teams with generational talents in McDavid and Eichel. Then of course one or two dark teams. Wherever he ends up I wish him nothing but the best and more cups. That being said if the Wings lose Babcock and bring in Blashhill maybe it's time for finally go into rebuild mode and try to build a contender for the future instead of just making the playoffs. Replacements I'd like to see Blashill, Todd McLellelan, maybe Bylsma or Hitchcock Julien (if the Bruins fire him) -

All the best Babcock, his job got harder each and every year. Will be interesting to see what Blashill can do...Hopefully Holland provides him with a better team otherwise the ever so important streak will end. Get your cup number two Babcock -

If that's true move heaven and earth to bring this guy in, he is exactly what the doctor ordered for our forward group. Big tough, mean and good for ~ 25 goals. -
I wouldn't want him fired just to move up the ladder as president of hockey and give another GM - preferable the Captain - the chance before he re-upped with the Bolts
